I was working in a big thriftstore here in Canada over the last 6 month and while I was sorting thru all the donations I learned so much about fabric and how it will age. I bought a cashmere sweater from the early 90s and its still in perfect condition. I´m a vegan but its fine for me to buy those items second hand and I´m pretty sure that from now on I will just buy things like merino wool, casmere and silk because it will last me so much longer, you dont have to wash it that often, its nicer for you body and you look way more sophisticated even you are wearing just a sweater. PS: I´m learing a lot from your videos, too, so thank you!

I made a commitment to never buy synthetics. If many people do this, brands will stop trying to foist this crap on us. You don’t see much polyester in men’s clothes, why? They won’t buy it, just like they won’t buy uncomfortably shoes. Manufacturers have been trying to sweet-talk these fabrics for years, renaming them things like Microfiber, Air Fabric, etc. They are even trying to sell poly sheets! Just Say No.

Great goal. Cotton, linen, hemp, cupro, tencel, modal, second hand, wool, recycled wool, recycled polyester...there are choices for heaven sakes By the way, I bought men's joggers that fit me great and , wait for it, they are 100% sustainable fabric. I am actually thinking about exploring that section.

I also have quit buying synthetics. It's definitely a pain to find pieces without polyester/nylon/acrylic but it also saves me tons of money on pieces I would've otherwise bought, so I'm happy with my decision!

I wanted to name a daughter Larissa, it means fortress in Greek (I’m half Greek), and is lovely. As for polyester, just say no, and keep looking. I save up and buy from LilySilk, instead.

What I've come to realize, too, (thanks to your videos!) is when it comes to natural fibers, since you so rarely need to wash some of them, you are also saving on energy usage, so there really are many layers of savings for ourselves and for the planet by buying fewer and better-quality garments!

Totally agree that buying few, well-considered, quality pieces in natural fibres, even when the brand isn't especially sustainable, is a respectable, smart option for being more sustainable. Especially when the aesthetic or limited sizing in smaller, ethical brands isn't working for you. I'm combing strategies to be more sustainable in the way I dress, including finding out what high end brands do sizing that suits my tall frame and then buying them second hand.

Agreed. I can only afford brands like H&M, but they do have good, natural fiber options. I just skip past the synthetics.

i have an expensive issey miyake plisse jacket that i really love the silhouette and it fits well with my style and my whole wardrobe in general but it is a pain to find the perfect weather to wear it. thanks to your videos now i understand the reason behind it. polyester ❌

Did I miss something? The heading says best brands for high quality, but I did not hear any brands listed. I am not looking for the names of high end luxury brands (aka expensive), but the names of brands that are medium or moderately priced high quality clothing (such as Pendleton). This video is nothing but another rehash of what can be found on a gazillion other channel, such as places to go for used clothing (Etsy, Posh-mark, etc)

I need someone with your aesthetic but for warm toned skin. I love your style and I love to wear blue, but I have a warmer skin undertone, so finding blues, or in general the colors I like, to match that is not always super easy.

7:12 The X stitch on your Mango Blazer... it's a temporary stitch. You need to remove it. Those are only there so the piece holds its shape a bit better in transport.

Usually pockets on blazers are stitched closed, too. Just pick these stitches out with a seam ripper, there will be fully functional pockets under there.

Im autistic and have trouble with clothing a lot. it's taken me a while to find what i like and found out that it's not always natural fibers that are comfortable. For example my aunt gave me a casmire sweater and I couldn't wear it bc it itched too much 😔 and I have other materials that i like as well... confort is very personal i guess 😅

Agree. Any unnatural fibre is not sustainable. All the clothing I didn't wear in the past were polyester or acrilic. Nowadays if it is not cotton, linen (etc), I just don't buy them. To. Me the material is as important as the fit and style.

I appreciate that you try to not buy what you don’t need and encourage others to do the same. However, this video is titled something different. I wish you had talked more about quality fabrics to look for, brands to research. What to avoid besides polyesters and Acrylic. Thanks!! 😊

I was excited to try the online custom shop Samisurra, they seemed to offer some nice fabrics. But, I searched everywhere for the fiber content of their linings, it’s not there, only words like soft, luxury, etc., so it’s polyester, no way. Then, I saw some of their items in a style video, and wasn’t impressed with the fit or fabrics custom-made for the content producer. Everything looked too snug, and the revers of the print cotton shirt had that ugly, dull, faded gray look and didn’t account for cotton shrinkage in the ease. That custom-linen clothing brand, sorry forgot name, on Etsy has great reviews, though, I’ll try them.

I've been looking for mauvey pink purple things with rounded details, not an easy feat with basics, and having those type of requirements keeps me from spending a lot of money. Just wanting color and quality seems impossible at times.

Besides the poor seam work they piece the fabric together in mix matched directions and it puckers or doesn't move with the body like its supposed to. That's something else to watch out for in synthetics.

Any tips on making natural fabric pieces look more formal? Like with matching sets, I feel that they can lean a bit more 'loungewear' in natural fabrics vs. the polyester ones

Iron them thoroughly with Magic Sizing, this restores the new factory finish and sharpens them up a lot.

I've found a thicker weave allows the fabric to "stand" on its own rather than slouch. Find a weight and drape that works for you 😉

I recently bought something in a famous brand shop where they advertise sustainability. I washed the items 2,3 times and it peels so badly, color washed out, hmmm 😉... It's the opposite of the definition of sustainability.
