I love the bins! Just went to my Omaha bins yesterday and filled my cart to the rafters for $30. I don’t do clothes shoes or toys, and do dig down to the very bottom. I make vintage book lots by color and grab every vintage sewing item under the sun. Plus a bunch more. Most of my sales now ARE from the bins - as you said, the profits are great!
Thanks for the great info! I’ve never been to a bins. The closest is over 3 hours away, but I REALLY want to go!! I appreciate your info on COG. That’s very important to me & this is obviously (probably) the lowest COG place to source from. Thanks again!!
After watch this yesterday I went to the bins. A fresh bin of hard goods came out. People we're rushing through it, I picked up a box said soap on it, surprised 30 pairs of earrings.
Kristen…video idea for you….would you share with us your favorite find from all the different bins you travel to? I’m still waiting for you to hit Wisconsin bins…
@@ARuralSquirrel It may seem silly, but stretch your body before and after. Bending over the bins, pulling and tugging on items can take their toll on your body. Take short breaks, stretch a bit then head back to the bins for more treasure hunting. Maybe even use the breaks to look up items so you won't have to do it all at the end. One more, check the bins closest to the checkout for throwbacks. What one person may decide is not for them, may be just the type of things you're looking for!
Loved this video! We primarily source from the bins in Pittsburgh. SO many gems and I love the hunt. You did such a great job explaining what they are and how they work.
Good point about weight in terms of investment and cost of goods. The other thing I'm really being more conscious of in terms of weight is how much will it cost to ship? I've passed on quite a few things because they were just too heavy to ship at a reasonable cost.
Another thing you might want to check is if the location you're shopping at has a schedule. I live in Seattle and the Seattle bins put their hard goods out first thing in the AM (8:00 AM at my bins). They don't bring textiles out until about 11 AM.
I absolutely love the bins! I have found some great items there...a vintage aluminum Christmas Tree with a rotating base complete in its box, an original soft sculpture Cabbage Patch Kid, and schematics for a ride in Disney World from when it opened! I love the thrill of finding something vintage and saving it from going in the trash! When I figure out how much I spent on each item, I figure it out by ounces. For example at my bins it is $1.29 per lb which is approx .08 cents per ounce. So for a small toy that weighs 3 ounces I only paid .24 cents for that item!
So glad I watched this one again... traveling thru IA next month and now will not stop at the Cedar Rapids Bins... I don't want to have to wear gloves :(
I have a video about the Cedar Rapids bins too - it's worth a watch! It was actually a really nice bins - people were so nice and it was clean! Maybe try the Des Moines bins too - no gloves required there.
Love the bins, got some great shoes like new. Couple weeks ago. Already sold 2 pair for about $25 each plus shipping. I wash and clean everything. Tip I use those beads that make clothes smell fresh and of coarse detergent. Thanks Kristin for all your tips.
Love watching your upbeat vibe and the info you provide. I’m not about stressing out at the bins. I take my time, dig deep and have found plenty of items going by what I know and what interests me.
Isn't it great that we can find things even after someone else had been through it? I mean, we're all looking for different things - and there is enough stuff out there for EVERYBODY!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! I really do appreciate that support!
SOLID stuff!! Editing your cart - YES, bring a snack/drink - YES, and pulling up your hair - YES. All absolutely essential. Though my favorite just might be using a comforter bag. Have even started doing this at my local church thrift…am also using them to store my unlisted items in my closet. Just one of the MANY hot tips picked up from watching you. 🐿️❤️
Great advice on bin hunting. Love it I went this past Friday and found some nice books. I like rescuing books and toys. Even found some a barely used sleeping bag and some nice cleats😊💐
no bins within two hours of me, the closest one is fairly small and the last time we went I found 10 books and one toy, so not worth the gas to get there. We waited through three rotations hoping it would get better but it didn't. So disappointing.
Aw man! That stinks! I guess I'm lucky because I always seem to find something good when I go to any of the bins I've been to across the country! I've been to 32 different locations and always just love exploring all the bins! I can understand not wanting to make that big of a drive if it wasn't a successful experience last time though. Maybe next time!
Just went to the Bins nearest me (about 50 min away) in Hudson, NH - price is $2 / pound but no sales tax in NH. I'm told the price just increased recently. I'm still a newbie and hang back on the new rotations not brave enough yet lol... but found lots of great stuff in picked over bins. Just depends what you are looking for!! thanks for the tips!!
Heyyyyyy Kristen!!! It’s really hard to shop anywhere else’s when you live next to the bins 😆 I’ll go once a month and have enough inventory to last me a good 2 weeks. Some day I hope to travel around and shop every single goodwill outlet! Wouldn’t that be fun?!
LOL! I have a video about the FMB - it's one of my first locations that I traveled too. I found some really good stuff - but you're right - not as clean as some of those IA bins! LOL
@@ARuralSquirrel I’ll go look for that video. I went for my very first time and did not know the shopping cart rules. A cart was sitting next to the bins and nobody around and it wasn’t covered. I rummaged just a bit on top and found a scarf by Lucci 😉🤪I won’t do that again though. Felt realLy bad once I learned the rules
Ah! You're in CO! Pop-ups are what we used to call, back in the day, a "show". Remember when we would do craft show or makers markets? That's what they are, really. Many festivals and vintage markets are the thing now. You can search them in your area even in Facebook Events. Hope that helps!
@@ARuralSquirrel Yes! We sell on eBay and have found that the bins are the way to go. We have found so many profitable finds, that we just keep flipping our investment.
Good video! The North Port FL bins have been closed since Hurricane Ian. :( Not sure if the Fort Myers location took damage. Quite a few thrifts near me had major damage. Several have finally reopened. Some will not reopen at all. The others? Time will tell if they decide to rebuild.
I didn't know North Port was still closed. 😔 My family is down in Ft Meyers and I haven't heard about the bins there yet either. So sad how much damage there is from that! It's just crazy! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Appreciate that support!
New subbie! Love your energy and your knowledge of the bins. I want to get a new laptop going into my 2nd year of reselling part time. What kind of laptop do you use?
Such great info! Our local bins is called Renaissance liquidation. I only realized this year that our Renaissance thrift stores are goodwills. In Quebec, companies are strongly encouraged (with laws) to use a French name. Most opt for a small change so the brand is still recognizible, but other do a complete rename. Renaissance is French for rebirth. 🙂
