#ASL #ASLLOVE #HowtoSign #signlanguage In this video I show you how to sign the words HOPE and BELIEVE. There are a few options available for the sign "hope." There are also regional variations that you may come across.
Hello again. In a lot of your videos, you stress that many words indeed have multiple ASL signs. However, if we were to take a National Interpreter Certification (NIC) exam, would they expect us to know very specific signs to pass the test? Thank you.
Hello again! That is a great question. It’s hard to say which one to choose for each sign. Any of the options should be acceptable. It might depend on the context or your audience.
First off, I've got to say that I love these videos! I just began to learn ASL this week, mostly through your teachings, and it has been a fun journey so far. I do have a question, though. When you signed, "I'm really hoping that you are able to achieve your goal," what did it mean when you pointed one index finger at the other? Was that for "achieve?" Does the closed fist against the finger mean "goal?" Thank you so much!
Hello, and thank you for watching! It’s important to note that the grammar rules for English are not the same for ASL. The closed fist against the index finger means “achieve” while the index finger to index finger motion means “goal.” Check out this video which explains both in more detail. 👍🏼 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JSN1mD8PcMo.html
This may sound silly but my name is Hope would it be weird to use one of these signs to introduce myself? I know a deaf person has to give you your name sign and my name is easy to finger spell this is just curiosity
Hi Hope! Thanks for checking out my page. In my opinion, I wouldn't recommend it since you would essentially be using it as self given name sign. If you were having a conversation about your name it would be more appropriate to reference the sign then.
@@ASLLOVE thank you! My son is deaf and goes to our states school for the deaf so I’m learning ASL for him! Do you have a video on sentence structure and grammar? Learning the individual signs is easier than figuring out the placement in a sentence 😂♥️
I love that you are able to find the time to learn for your son. I know how difficult (and time consuming) it can be to learn a new language. I consider my page to be more of a dictionary - ASL support (at least that was my intent when I created it). Great question. If you are comfortable with the ASL alphabet, I would spell "bag" and then sign "want." Make sure your expression has a questioning look to it (furrowed brow, etc). If you are not comfortable spelling yet and the bags are visible from where you stand, I would point to the bags and sign "want?". The person you are asking could then respond with "yes" or "I have". Check out this video for "want." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S__TNol3TeM.html
