What I do is warm up with falsetto from c5 to c3, then I sing low and chesty tones from A2 to A3 and I try and combine the low larynx feel with the release of the falsetto. When my lungs warm up too, it all works quite well!

It's a mixed voice, the first sign for a mix voice is that it gets brighter than the voice he speaks with (speaking register), that's mix voice. It feels like the resonance is buzzing in the back of your neck and it goes up to the back of your head as you ascend in pitch.

@Control Reality, not particularly. Just don't try and push things too hard. Give your voice the chance to move into its new range. Keep doing your vocal exercises. I chose not to sing on stage during the 12 months my voice was breaking - I was a bit insecure so the thought of it cracking while singing in front of people made me nervous. But talk to your singing teacher and/or people who know you and your voice better than me.

@chrismartinez144
@chrismartinez144 2 года назад
Lol High tenor C for a bass is insane, that’s a full octave above a lyric bass’ second passaggio. Meanwhile that’s only 5 semitones above the lyric tenor’s second passaggio. C5 to a lyric tenor is like F#4 to a lyric bass That doesn’t mean it’s impossible for basses to go up to high tenor C, it’s possible, There are people that can take a chesty sound a full octave above their second passaggio. It’s just ridiculously hard lol True basses, I will say, are quite rare. Even popular basses like Geoff Castellucci for example are not basses by classical voice standards. Geoff would be a lower baritone, his second passaggio sits at Eb4. And he calls himself a baritone too. Still hard with a voice like that to get up to high tenor C (Geoff has done it though)

The fact that on a good day I can hit a C5 without my voice sounding floaty I’m really impressed by my natural range. My voice tends to cap at Bb4 before I have to start pushing but even when I push I’m still able to carry weight on a B4 and C5. Anything above that I flip into a mix voice with more of a heady sound. Or either my falsetto

Most days I tap out around B4 but am able to hit the high C, I just can’t hold it for sustained periods. Part of the reason why I think I’m unable to hold it is because I often just try to straight up belt it. So I’m able to tap it but there’s no way I could hold it. Lately I’ve been experimenting with my placement up there, and I have noticed (like you said) that directing the sound very vertically, seems to be the most helpful. It results in a lighter sound but it’s also a much more balanced sound. However I noticed that the way you performed it in this video is very light; almost like a heavier head voice sound as opposed to a light chest sound. I think I always try to hard to make it sound like a belt and this could be the major thing holding me back. Awesome video, I feel it could be really helpful; I’ll definitely give these techniques a try. Hopefully I am able to level up.

Hey man!! I have been practicing mixed voice for almost 7-8 months now. I'm a natural baritone so my actual chest voice ends around D4 or E4. But if I go chest heavy mix, it goes about A4 & sometimes B4 if my throat is in top condition. But recently I started hitting some C5 & C#5s but it's a bit thinner mix. So basically, you have to learn jumping/switching between different co-ordinations of mixed voice. And yes, with enough practice no one will even notice the switch. Also, twang & vibrato can help to give it the edge!! Hope it helped!!

Hey Tyler, a fellow voice obsessor. That "high C"/"high D" you are doing is a head mix. It feels different because you are putting more head voice into the mix. It's a clean sound I will admit that but if you want to get that raw belting power you have to lean more into the chest. I know head mix is much easier to do, but there is a ring to chest mix that just sounds meatier and fuller. But to each his own. Hope you have a great day and good job on the video. :) Edit: I'm a Baritone that can hit a resonant Eb5 (in a song) in chest mix. It has taken a long time to get there and I can sing E5/F5/F#5/G5 (but not in songs).

Hello, I wanted to clarify regarding the point where you say that we should be singing in our skull. I am able to do this and I get the sensation but I feel a sort of strain in my vocal cords when I try to push the sound up into the head. How to do this is in a more natural manner?

Is that also for Bass or baritone

The funny thing is that even if you described the important parts of the method in a 10 minute video there would be only very few people (if anyone) able to put it into practice. I am learning to sing again. I have had some vocal training 20 years ago so I know that what you described is, in fact, the method. I have heard most of the advice from different people and never quite understood it. One evening three years ago, I was able to sing in the head voice for an hour or so. I should have picked up on it and develop it when I was able to do it then. I remember I did not strain my vocal cords too much and yet I was hitting those high notes.

Not sure of anything in life you will master because of watching any 10 min video. That is not why I post videos. But if you little by little make progress and practice the small seemingly insignificant little things daily eventually you will get it.

SOVT is "Semi Occluded Vocal Tract." I had to look that up. Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna commit to using that device on a regular basis. Do you also recommend straws? Great video. Thanx!

I think I'm now into mixed voice, but my mother said, it doesn't sound fit for singing. What can I possibly do?

I can hit C5 but my larynx rises like crazy n I get tension, what should I do? On a good day my resonance helps me sing a G#5

This is helpful but I'm still trying to get the hang of it. But I can't help going into a kind of falsetto I feel. It's not so sharp.

Does singing it in headvoice count?

I’ve been singing for 18 months now and I can hit a D5 on a good day. I can hit a C5 after an hour warm up. In the beginning of my singing journey I was able to hit A4 on a good day after four months in my singing but it sounded terrible. Now I sound way better. Not like Tyler though his singing is amazing.

What was your process in these months to get to C5 and D5? I'm stuck at G4, and A4 it's just falsetto for me.

@@AlexDicy my D5 is weak. Be patient. I do a lot of warm ups, I use the straw technique, lip trills, also I’ve learned a few tricks from Tyler channel. I play guitar so that helps me a lot. Best thing to do is find your self a vocal coach to point you to the right direction. I know it’s expensive, but you know what! It will be worth it. You have to strengthen your diaphragm it’s important.

What is the name of the apparatus with the “silver ball” I’d really like to try that! I really enjoyed this video and immediately shared it with my three band mates

Why does it when I'm doing it, it sound like a loud falsetto-ish sound for me? I'm kinda confused if I already did it? or is what I'm doing is wrong?
