This is my favourite instructional video yet that I've made, I think anyone watching could get a ton of value from this singing video as I explain a few concepts I've never discussed!
w8 so is it kinda like if you were to be like singing and then you just sigh/grunt a tiny bit under the singing and control how much grit you have by how much sigh you add??
This was helpful. Ben a singwer song writer for a while and always put off Vocal lessons but its crazy what you can teach someone without that person realizing those aspects are involved.
Okay things like this are usually cringy but I gave it a shot anyways, and holy shit dude you're chill as fuck. That was such a good and simple little lesson. Great work and it was so chill and comfortable. Keep up the good work my dude.
Awesome video man, I'm still struggling a fair bit to match the key I'm singing with the gritty sound (it comes out very low when I'm singing relatively high) but this helped a lot
Thanks for making these videos, i'm making a playlist of them so i can be a better vocalist. I have a natural rasp so hopefully these come easier now that i know how to properly do them.
I can do the “soft palette” part, but when I hit a high note, it’s just louder. I can’t get any grit on it. Do you have any more tips to get that rough Soupy sound? If I try to do it, it’s just like a fake grit sound that hurts my throat. 🤦🏻♂️
+Taylor Denby Good idea man, right now I'm focusing on singing but hopefully in the future. Check out Jared Dines screaming tutorials I think they are pretty popular + good! Vic does a basic fry
hey man, thanks for your videos! Could you please make a video or post an explanation about lifting the soft palate? In every vocal lesson teachers tend to say that we should lift our palate but I have no idea how should I do it.
Hey Doug, can you do a video on how to sing on the right key or pitch? Im trying to sing "Things I Cant Change" by The Story So Far, but there are some parts where I sound off key like on the "Lie Alone" part. So can you teach how to sing on key while doing the pop punk grit?
Fuck yeah ive been trying to get rasp down for over a year and eventually gave up cuz i kept pushing too hard & fucking up my vocal chords. After watching your video tonight i think im finally getting it!! Im using breath support but at times i can still feel it in my throat a little. Is this normal for a beginner?
Good job!! Yeah honestly you need to experiment with your voice. If I was teaching I wouldn't advise you not to try things that might even be painful. When I was figuring out how to belt I sounded horrible for months.
No! I believe the vocal cords are coming together and this sound is made more with rumbling of your soft palate (which is above your vocal cords). It actually feels pretty good when you do it right. Trenton from Hands Like Houses does this on almost every belted note and he's a great singer
Cheers for this man! Been looking for the right technique for pop punk for a while! Only problem I'm getting is my breathing when doing songs like eg tables turned by neck deep, any advice?
Yo please make a video on how to sing like Joe Taylor of Knuckle Puck. I know it's similar, but Joe has a weird scream that he does with his notes that doesn't sound like what these guys dude.
hi dude thanks for this videos ive been looking for this one. I'm a screamer of a metalcoreband here at my place but Im really into this poppunk genre. so I really want to learn this method. I can only sing like Bert poncet on CNCC. I cant hit higher like neckdeep. I hope u can make more videos on poppunk . subscribed
+Joemar Zembrano Okay so you can sing like Chunk No Captain Chunk. That's okay man we can work on getting that voice to stretch up higher so you can do what you really want to do! More Pop Punk vids, I got it.
I've learned a lot since then about learning to develop the voice. You should just try to develop your voice to FUNCTION the best it can. Meaning, make sounds in the voice that work very well for example, singing without creating unnecessary tensions, learning to support the voice as you sing and focusing on the strengths that your own unique voice has!
@@Dougzed i am currently in the process of doing that... i'm just curious to know how to go about his style of vocals and what i can do to get close to that
I think it's really cool that you actually take this seriously and don't just sing without taking care of and prepping your voice. It shows that you're a real singer. (This is coming from a professional btw)
Can you do a video on like how title fight does their vocals? Like on this song ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TZNQ5T4dXwY.html I would appreciate it a lot man. I can sorta do it but I get tired fast and I can't do it for long. And me and my band are gonna start doing shows and I need to get it down good before we do that.
