@@Maschine_Elf I live in apartment and I'm still afraid to try this because my neighbors can probably hear me through the floors. Then we'll leave our units at the same time and they'll be like "there he is, there's the weirdo sounding like a dying cat in his apartment!" I don't think I can scream anyway because my voice is too deep and inflexible.
If anyone is having a hard time with this, I have tip that helped me start to make this sounds. Try singing the word "across" in your head voice and then add compression with your diaphram by by doing that "huh" sound he talked about in step 1. And then like he said, in the place where your uvula would bounce, your voice should start to break up a bit. Play around with the sensation till you feel all of the resonance focused there. At least thats how I found it but it still took me a long ass time. If it starts to hurt even a little bit, stop and try again the next day. Hope this can help someone.
You can do it just as well as any man could, screaming is about air flow and the vibration of one's secondary vocal folds, which everyone has, so yes good luck!
Took me about 2 years but I finally managed to get a perfect scream from watching this video. I know you're probably not going to see this comment but thank you so much for this video. This really helped
So, it seems.. alot of us probably don't do alot of screaming in general. but if you ever recall a time when you did, you know how you got a weird itchy feeling in your throat? and it kind of tasted weird? whatever that is, that's what you're suppose to use for this. One day when i felt it again i decided to not care if it hurt and tried it. So you hold your vocal cords closed, clench with your stomach, and as you let air start to pass through again, you wanna do your whisper voice but also try and let the air flow through the part lower in your throat that hurts when you scream. It worked for me, and then my voice was messed up for like 2 days. After letting it rest and trying more, i got to more accurately control it and not hurt myself anymore. So now i can finally do the voice, but i still suck at it so i gotta keep practicing.
TucsonianEskimo awesome dude! i’m just starting my journey. how long did it take you to get to where you are? i see your prior comment is front a month ago so that’s what i’m guessing it took?
@@slimejaids1772 You are correct. It took me about a month of watching videos like this and trying different methods. It was really important for me to keep in mind that if what i'm doing isn't working, that i should try and experiment in another way. after about that month i happened to finally come across what the noise is actually comprised of. I'd describe it as a screaming gargle in a way? It really comes down to closing your vocal chords tight and forcing air through it by squeezing your abs real tight and as it is forced through the closed opening it makes a sputter or gargle like sound lower down in your throat. then onces this sputtering is happening its just a matter of keeping up the pressure from squeezing and making words with your mouth pretty wide open. You're almost faking noise like a vocal chord but youre using other things around it to make vibrations. Anyway, sorry for the paragraph lol. Yeah about a month, however it's important to note that i feel like even though now i can "make" the noise, i'm still not great at controlling it. so i practice nearly everyday when im alone in the car on the way to work cause i find that to be the only place i can be loud without worry. Good luck on your journey :) I recommend songs from Dead by April
To my friends... Its actually easy to do but it will take time to do in my case it took 2 months. But trust me its all about dedication. You must do some things also like take care of your throat by not drinking cold water, alcohol (smoking is worst) try to quit or reduce em. This guy told us the best method trust me. Keep practicing and thanks for reading this. ☮️ Live long metal 🤘
@Raphael Bagley like dancing, you are using your muscles to reach this effect. Dancers wear legwarmers and sweaters to keep the muscles warm to prevent injury. You want your throat to stay warm because cold brings tightness and stiffness, and that is what brings injury. Source: I am a theater major. We learn a LOT about preventing injury.
I tell you that i can fry scream when im a smoker, why? Because a phlegm in my throat helps me from injury and i can scream louder. Now i quit smoking for 2 years, my throat is dry no matter i drink a warm water, cold water (i dont drink alcohol), its still dry and realised that i push myself till got a sore throat almost lost my voice. Takes a month to heal and i cant make a fry scream like my old days.. can scream but after 2 songs, my sound like a donaldcore..
TayaKnight thank you so much, love. no wonder! I’ve been drinking cold water a lot before and after singing, and it feels like I don’t have a lot of vocal range and feels like my voice is just holding back. I tried doing this with warmer water, and my voice just completely let go! I couldn’t thank you enough!!!

I'm a pretty decent singer/screamer but I've struggled for a long time to get that belt-scream. It's a very specific scream. Thank you for covering it!
Some steps are shown with mistakes. And while doing this steps, an average person is likely to make a lot of mistakes that will lead to problems with vocal chords.
I remember when I first watched this video. I was not able to scream at all and I felt like I would never get it. This was around March 2018. I gave up screaming for a while until October 2018 when I was recording my first song and I was able to scream after a few more practices. Immediately after getting the right sensation for the scream, the sound of the scream got better and better the more I did it. Also, I had the problem that I've seen a lot in the comments which is when you can't/won't practice because there are people in the same house. For me in this case it was family. I was able to squeeze enough time for practice and recording whenever my mom went out to the store or for appointments. My screams aren't really great but I am really happy with how they sound and am always seeing how I can make them better. Here are a few tips that really helped me -Have Confidence in your scream. Don't be afraid to do it. I always thought I would sound stupid but when you get the right sensation and go for it, you'll get it. -Practice to music. This really helped me get by the embarrassment of shitty screams and I naturally started trying to emulate the screams of the artists I listened to. -Drink water. Obviously -Do NOT continue if it hurts your throat. This means that you are doing it wrong. It shouldn't hurt. You will be able to find the right sensation so try something else if it hurts. -Don't give up. Don't think that you won't be able to get it. I always thought that for some reason, maybe my throat wasn't meant for screaming so I was really discouraged. I am currently trying to learn Whistle screams like in DIR EN GREY or Silent Difference. They are really hard for me to get the hang of and I have even Less practice time because there is always someone home so I hardly ever get free time to practice but I still think I'll get them one day. I'm gonna try to upload some screams if anyone is interested in hearing them.
dude ur comment helped me SO much, i started practicing very very recently and i cant make the scream noise from any of those techniques. i was ready ti give up thinking i wasnt made to scream but this encouraged me very much
Przemysław Jakóbczyk ehm you really think that girls cant scream? Maybe you should listen some music ahah A girl that can scream is better than a male.

Serial killer comes into bedroom and starts stabbing me. Me:aaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! serial killer:*pauses* wow you really hit that note. Me: thanks
been tearing up my throat trying to perform this technique for about 18 months now. I'm not totally certain I have it yet, but I think you showed me the light, brother!!
Luke Man Hopefully I can share the relief. Been trying to learn fry for 8 years to no avail. Eight years of trial and hard failure with zero improvement.
damn dude. I can say that my technique has changed slightly since I made the post. recently I stopped using any voice in it. just try to make noise with out talking. if you press your fingers to your ear drums you can hear very clearly when you're just making noise and when you're voice starts to creep into it. just be patient and keep your voice out of it.
Congrats on getting included! I know you’re probably get a lot of this but we both know BUTTHEAD SUCKS!!! Thanks for showing me how to make a fry sound without using my uvula!
Marge Simpson voice is the ultimate exercise. I lost my voice from being in an edgy grindcore band when I was in hs. Now I can only do belt yells/screams and have to use my nasal muscles to create the shake. Idk if thats even exactly the thing that is doing it but I know this. If you don’t know how to sing. Be careful, you can do serious damage to your vocal chords as well as your lungs. As it almost comes naturally to use your rib muscles at first. I sound like an old man lol.

This is the absolute best video I've ever used. I'm relearning after about 5 years of not being in a band and it's all come back to me. Ty for being this so easy to understand! Definitely subscribing so that I nail my audition
Doug you’re a god damned legend, I never thought I’d be able to do this. But you put it in such a way that I finally was able to pull it off. I can’t thank you enough!
Another piece of advice for beginners, is to make sure you keep your vocals hydrated. Not only while practicing scream vocals but even after mastering a lot of the more complex scream combinations. Otherwise, the outcome is way worse than just being sick. Tearing your vocal cords is not a fun thing. It is one of the few types of bad news any vocalist could be told; when a specialist tells you that you won't be able to sing or perform for the rest of a tour. Not to mention, it took years before I could finally start building my vocals up again. Slowly but surely, I will have my vocals back in gear like they used to be back in the day.
okay it's been a week and I can indeed confirm you've showed me the proper technique when literally no one else could. I can finally scream along to my favorite dethklok, ensiferum, havok etc. songs!! thank you so much!
Tea is really bad to drink while vocalizing, it saps water out of your system and dehydrates you. Even worse if it's the kind of tea that has caffeine like black teas and green teas, because caffeine fucks with the muscles in the throat. Water water water. That's all you should be drinking.
I tried it. I even told my mom I was going outside to do it. She said " okay ". So I go outside and scream at the top of my lungs. I come back inside, and my mother said " You scared the shit out of me." I said " You knew what I was going outside to do." She gave me some bullshit story about how she thought I said something else. We were about seven feet apart when I told her I was going outside to scream.I know she heard me. Just shows you what I live with and what I have to put up with.
I'm 13 and I'm a girl and I can sing pretty well, and like I legit want to scream sing and this video is so useful Thankyou sooo much for the help brother!❤
If you ever need any further help just dm me on Instagram @bloody_demon_inside I'll help you as much as possible as I'm still learning but I learned my own techniques to be able to low scream but it sounds like I got possessed
I was able to do it with this tutorial. Ive been practicing screaming for a little under 2 years and could do all the steps and bring them together in the order you gave. Im super excited to start recording! For anyone having trouble, it takes legit time to develop the last step. I was able to do it with a consistent pace after a few hours. Perfect the step and feel around for the sound.
Miscia Aishi D. Tarlit Just say youll vacuum or some shit if you get to listen to music, I find that screaming along to songs with screaming in them also helps greatly.
Oh thanks man! I've seen a lot of scream tutorials but this is the best one! Hell, this is the first one that actually shows you what to do with your throat to scream!
I showed my sister some screamo and she was like “how do they do that” and I, vexing the very *edgy* girl I am was like “oh it’s all controlled, like it’s not actual screaming” and moments later we found ourselves watching this video and dying of laughter
Great lesson! As a guitar player I really never wanted to do vocals because I dont like being tied to a mic on stage. Recently I decided to try singing so I could start songwriting and adding vocals to my tracks. This lesson really helped me, you explain very well. Thanks!!! ☯️🙏
I’ve always belted like this to pierce the veil songs since I was 15, but I think I’ve been doing it wrong and I’m afraid I might’ve been slowly damaging my vocal chords🤕
This video was a game changer for me . I was a clean vocalist. Then someone suggested me to try to scream vocals . This was my first ever video. Now my Bandmates prefer my screams over everything XD in any song . This video was a game changer for me !! I don't know how to thank you man !!! It's been 3 years since then .

This video helped so much I’ve wanted to do that last thing you did for almost three years now and I can almost do it on command now! This video helped me so much and I’m sure it can do the same with others
Doug Zed zed could you reproduce with your own voice and then upload it on RU-vid this track called on RU-vid: 14th rite pat o brien cannibal corpse. Thanks 🙏

Doug Zed hi I know this is kinda odd to ask but how do you get the uvula to bounce? I'm still working on it and so far so good on the other steps, but that's the only part that I'm having trouble with. I'd appreciate some feed back thank you!
Can you also do a tutorial on low sounds, like growls and gutturals? Have been doing those for years, but still don't know if they are done correctly. Feel no pain and it sounds amazing so I guess it's fine, but just for reference :)
hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about learn how to sing really good try Sovallo Singing Fast Fixer( search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend got cool success with it.
I'm really happy I've been using this technique since long ago and never had any way to confirm I was doing it okay since I just learned it on my own. It's the first time I see someone explaining it in a video! Keep up the good work! :D
