So, I have written poetry off and on for years, and began teaching myself piano a few years ago. The wall has always been on bridging lyrics to music. I have never worked on developing my true voice and always either attempted to mimic or used my head voice. I discovered Victoria recently, and absolutely adore her teaching style. I found myself taking notes this morning as I listened to her video on resonance, as I was doing the vocal exercises. I am 42 years old and feel like I have found the doorway into developing my true voice through her wisdom. Thank you.
That's exactly where I am. I've been writing raps/poetry Since I was thirteen years old, I'm forty eight. And I have no problem writing, really, really good lyrics but that's where I struggle. Because I've been using this app for making music and I always seem to be off beat and it just never sounds right. And whenever I'm singing like I was just trying to do a song tonight. It just didn't seem to fit. I've been writing songs for most of my life, but in actuality. I don't know where to place the words within the context of the song. It always seems to sound off. I tried playing musical instrument. Maybe I should try to pick one up again. It's never too late to learn something new.
2:50 tap over metronome, so dont sound robotic 3:55 if can get the 1st beat then will help alot 5:10 breaths are every 2 measures and become automatic otherwise breath will cause falling behind to rhythm too 6:11 clap or tap helps internalize beat, saying numbers replicates breath usage while singing 6:25 listening song (maybe slower) tap or clap with attiude to feel that pulse created by the drums can also put the numbers into song while singing parts are off 8:55 subdividing beat most music isnt so simple 4 beats (1 and, 2 and, 3 and, 4 and, 1and) ------ 9:40 get th epulse down, then figure out how the song fits into it cus all songs are written to these basic rhythm timings 4/4 being most common 1-2-3-4 9:50 after listen to song and get puls down dont start singing words sing a non sensical syllable = ba, bub, beep 10:40 once everythingis clean and ready, then move tempo up to song tempo 11:06 helps to take sheet music/lyrics and write the beats in 11:12 internalize beat by moving body with beat too also help voice too 12:11 can also do normal tempo w beats counting ----------- 12:00 now singing song w word make sure the prev things are clean 12:33 if too much trouble ask if song is perhaps too difficult for you rn, and if theres too many challenges 13:07 if still having trouble probably still havent internalized the pulse it comes w practice 13:40 also listen to the song over and over feeling the pulse and when you get downt he 4 beats to a measure it will also apply to any other song w same thing so you get better and better
I have to sing to people in 3 days. I'm so glad I found this! I was really confused where to start and where to end when singing, so this really helped! Thank you! ❤
Same here except I'm 2 weeks away and it's not really scheduled yet 😅 It's just a thought of mine that I don't know is going to come to fruition yet :)
Hey Victoria, I just want to thank you for the amazing videos you pull out. I have enjoyed singing since at a very young age, but I never had courses, or anyone to guide me, so I'm stuck on my own. Singing with rhythm was one of the things I struggle the most, and it made me almost want to give up. But after finding this video, I felt like I was back on my feet, and I want to improve more. I'm currently working on catch breathing, and I can't wait to see where I go from there.
I have a lot of mental health challenges and I've been feeling like singing helps a lot but I'm not very good. I feel I could be good enough to really get some healing out of it. Well just one time watching this video and I'm already finding the 'pulse' of some songs that help me. I'm able to sing along with the music for the first time. I cried. Thank you.
Hello Victoria! How are you? I just found your channel, and I'm really excited about your tips. I love singing, even though I don't know how... My biggest issue is really with timing and rhythm. I never know when to start singing when I need to enter before the downbeat or when I need to delay a bit. I can only sing a bit in those songs that are somewhat rigid where the vocal melody starts on the first beat of the measure... I'll look for more of your tips here; I'm impressed with your channel! Thank you very much, and see you later!!

Victoria my voice is coming alive! It’s all because of you! Thank you!!! Question I workout out and I know we gain muscle while we are resting and recovering. Is singing the same? Yesterday is when I really put my voice to work and noticed a huge change. My throat today feels tingly and scratchy sensation.
I cannot answer your entire question without working with you. We are not building muscles in the larynx in vocal training like you do in working out at the gym, for example. We are strengthening coordination.
I assume myself to have the perfect pitch and tone, I probably don't. But that's not why I'm here. I searched for rhythm and timing. That's the huge problem for me. Assuming you have a voice of an American Idol and if you have the worse timing, you gonna be a joke. And this lady knows how to teach that. Even though I don't find her singing to be my style but that's neither here nor there. I will put into practice these tips and I'm certain I will get this perfect. She's the Mr Miyagi of singing. She's teaching the key points.
Hope it'll help, I can sing and I honestly love singing but I have trouble in timing. It seems like I don't hear the beat when I'm singing, and I easily get confused.
Goodevening, Its Christy from Abuja, Nigeria .I like this,it has thrown more light on timing/beat control, I appreciate this ma.I need to also know how do I come in when the pianist or instrumentalists are playing before I start my solo or singing?
I absolutely love you, do you have any advice for singing like steve perry. I perform in a band as a singer. but have a hard time singing high gently and not tensing up
I would have to see and hear you to give specific advice. You could submit a video for review www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/product/video-review-of-your-singing/ or else see my playlist on Better High Notes and also on the Mixed Voice. I also have videos on Throat Tension!
😃 I can also 🎵 arrange music standards, like Georgia on My Mind, for piano in 5/4 - and then sing OR 💃 dance to it in either 4/4 or 5/4. (You seem like a teacher who might not want to do 5/4 song types, like Taylor Swift song, Tolerate It - - or Jethro Tull & Living In The Past. (Either would be too tough for most singer's to learn). Again, Thank YOu for all you DO teach !!-)
i cannot hear the pulse in karaokes for some reason theres times when theres no sound at all and i hear singer keep singing while no beat on some music so confusing i gove up
Thanks YOU! ! ( I began my adventures, years ago, with Five-Four 💃 dancing by doing exercises similar to your singing techniques) For a look at Fred Astaire & his complex style of 💃 dancing in 5/4, while the band played 4/4, go to the U-Tube title: "Coffee Time" - - Have FUN!!
Thanks for the "Wonderful" response! (In a 'Perfect World's Internet' - I would have your passion for teaching, & you'd have my passion for learning about the Musical Instrument Digital Interface - - MIDI **- invented in the 1970s!!😅 Today's MIDI keyboards allow beginning piano students to learn to play, with as much FUN, as your V, V. Vocal Exercises ** - WITHOUT piano lesson's by a piano teacher who Lacks the passion YOU HAVE 😄!!!
i always feel so proud of my singing but then i show my bf who raps and he tells me it’s off beat. i can’t even tell when it’s off beat when i’m singing sometimes. it makes me so sad bc i feel like it stresses me out trying to sing good and also on beat and i can’t even enjoy singing
Try inhaling like you have a cold and your nose is stuffed up, making sure that your mouth is open, of course. Sometimes nose breathing is very helpful, though. I discuss it in this video: How to Breathe While Singing - Nose, Mouth, or Both? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LGzWM2e3YFw.html
My biggest problem is I get the 1,2,3,4 main drum but I struggle with what is between. So in theory Im going with beat but between is off beat if that makes sense. How can I fix that? Even writing lyrics with same amount of syllables doesn’t fix that
Hello mam, Mam i facing a weird issue i cant Hiss properly it feels tight and when you say to breath and spring open i notice that my body is already opened before i breath in other words i don't let the air fall and fill the lung i use my body to breath and it doesn't do me any good pls help
I would have to see and hear you to know for sure, but the videos in my Breathing and Breath Support Playlist should help. You just sound tight. Try the exercise that I include of bending over at the hip sockets and inhaling. This helps the abs open and release. Also, don't work THAT hard to breathe. I cover that too.
When Going through some of your videos I notice that I struggle with and strain to go through all the scales. I'm very new to all of this. What do I do or can I do to strengthen my range and really understand the range itself? I Really feel a serious tightening in my lower through when I sing outside of deeper tones
You have to start from beginning of her videos. She talks about all of that and I subscribed to her school and she says if you cannot take high or low notes don't even try for now.
You should start with my Beginner Playlist, focusing on freedom in your middle and low voice first. When you are ready, I have playlists on Better High Notes and Throat Tension too.
"You need to feel the one". Well I don't. Never. I have beautiful voice and people constantly give up on working with me because i simply do not have the feeling, I do not hear nor feel the rythm no matter how much I practice, what I practice nor study the song in details. For me, in my head it's all blended... Perhaps is related to my dyslexia? I have to accept that I will never be the singer I wanted to be i guess....
Hi Victoria, thank you for your videos once again! I have a question for you. When singing, I usually see myself shifting my focus/attention between 3 things: the engagement of my support, the ping resonance on the forehead and the purity of the vowels. So I end up not paying too much attention on my emotional expression. Where do you personally put your focus/attention? Because singing involves sooo many bodily sensations. Thanks
When I perform a song, I keep the 2 most important technical things in the back of my mind while singing with expression and style. You cannot think of 50 things at once. I recommend focusing on your 2 top challenges. Perhaps this playlist may help you: Singing Practice - BETTER & FASTER PROGRESS! ru-vid.com/group/PLaWjWxiTysDBmPxq0HkXB06Im2wiZYZjf
@@Victoria-VictoriousThanks! That is really helpful to understand why practice the basics is so important or why it takes years to learn: to be able to do it unconscious because you can't focus on too much at once!
IMHO, I sincerely believe time should be taught before pitch and tone quality. A good singer with no sense of time is a burden especially with acapella. Now, atonal is a whole other creature.
