Hi Tobi, Your new ring reminds me of last Saturday here in my country (Canada) where I took photographs of a wedding and the groom was playing with his new addition as well 😂. Anyway all the best 🙋♀
superb video / explanation to follow along that's not too difficult for a beginner like me - and they are all nice and short in length - thanks a million ;)
Thank you for this, Toby. I’ll give this one a go later on. I love your style, it is so loose and free…way less intimidating than other more “perfectionist” tutorials. I have loads of photos from my holidays to try sketching, and will def follow these suggestions.
hi Toby, new subscriber here, glad I came across your channel, love your style of painting. it’s good to see that your techniques can also be used for landscape work. Keep going and I hope your channel goes from strength to strength.
Thank you Toby for what you give us. Please do more landscapes, as it is my absolutely favorite thing to sketch. Again thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just what I wanted. Love your style just recently found you. I have subscribed. You have given me the confidence I needed to come out of my shell, and not be afraid of giving it a go.
I used to do a lot of plein air painting. I love your sky’s. But I don’t have much luck come back into them after they dry. My landscapes I like to drop in a lot of colors then when it drys I enhance it with the ink line work.I’m 83 still learning 😊
Saya penggemar mu dari Indonesia guru. 🙏 Selalu membuat reverensi yang sangat menarik .. karena saya masih belum punya watercolor jadi saya pakai digital art 👍👍👍🙏..
Nice to see you working with a landscape, the scenery around me is more suburban than urban. Interesting houses, sheds, landscaping, narrow roads, mailboxes and parks. Would love to see some of those things. Thanks for your easy commentary! Very enjoyable.
Haha, so keep up Martin 😂 I have a new 'product' coming out.... It's actually going to be free, but I wondered if you would be happy to test it? I'm asking a couple of people who I can trust to give honest feedback 🙂👍 It's ten days of sketching. Email me toby.h.email@gmail.com if you are interested, but no pressure
Thank you so much for doing this! Your tutorials make it a lot less scary for me to try drawing new things and I appreciate it so much! Def would love to see more landscape type things like this. :)
Loving the landscape sketching too thank you. BTW this is indeed the stunning golden sands of Kaiteriteri beach (needed to zoom in to check) which is in Nelson New Zealand near where we live. It’s part of the Abel Tasman National Park
Thank you for demonstrating this lanscape sketch. I love to sketch landscapes but have wanted to loosen up and do quicker, more spontaneous ones. This demo is really going to help me with that. Please show us more landscape demos!
I’m really enjoying your videos. And I love your style of sketches and water colour. I’m very new to this but I’m learning albeit slowly. I’d love to see you sketch a typical country church sometime. Thank you and I’ve subscribed.
Very nice work, and a great tutorial. In step 3 are you wetting the painting before adding the bolder colours? Yours spread beautifully, but mine look more static ...
Wow, love your loose style and calm demonstration; it eassures the rest of us beginners! Do you have some of these demos on location as well (i.e. not from photo/in studio)? Suggestion, if/ when you redo this kind of demo, could you please move the reference photo to the left (away from the water and pans)? That way we get to see what is going on there / technique-wise. Thanks again!!
Thanks for this. I love your wobbly line loose style. By the way, did you just get married? Noticed the ring and wondered! If so, my congratulations to you both!🎉
Haha good spot - not married, but engaged. I didn't think it was fair that she got a ring and I didn't, so I bought myself a little ring too - it's egraved with the co-ordinates where we got engaged :)
Thanks for breaking it down into a simpler way. I didn't get this box but I have all of the supplies alrwady. Just different paints. By the way, I go through St. Neots on my way from London to Huntingdon. It's good to see something other than the train station.
I'm new to this, trying out some Japanese watercolours. I'm o holiday so landscapes are my main interest. I love the looseness you do. Mine are flat! Too literal I guess. I think I'd want more blue sky...
Hi Toby - I find your loose style very inspiring. Just need to be daring enough to try this out. Always wanted to try watercolour landscapes and this is a fab way to start. Buildings have been more daunting but I’m determined to make time this year to follow your simple steps method. Thank you for sharing your ideas it gives less confident aspiring artists a nudge to give it a go.
I love line and wash! I think that I have found my "Artist". I will take your class and see what you have on skillshare. Thanks, I've found my style, too. e`lan
Stunning and love that its a scene from down here in beautiful New Zealand. Loved this as most of our environment is rural and I enjoy your techniques so now know how to adapt it to a country view Enjoying your course also Thak you Trish
I absolutely have loved this style for a few years but didnt know exactly what it was or how it was done. I started looking into it and have just found all your brilliant videos and decided that I would give it a go. I've bought alll the stuff and am ready so fingers crossed and all that. One thing is as a beginner I am finding that I am wanting to see how you mix and the colour and consistency of the paint on your pallet but its usually covered by the reference photo being on the right of the video. Not sure of an answer but I still find myself craning my kneck trying to look around it lol 🤣
Please can you do these techniques to still life or objects I’ve loved the landscape - I would like to know how to do depth with ink alone in a landscape how would shading or texture or depth work without the colour????
I do these same techniques on still life yes! I probably don't have a specific video on that. Depth with ink alone I can certainly make time for in a video :)
I love watching you create with your loose style! I tend to be quite heavy-handed in my style and have been trying to loosen it up. Finding and following you is really helping me! Thank you so much! 💖🖌🖋
Six months ago I felt that landscapes could be my thing and I followed Oliver Pyle who is a fabulous classical watercolour artist but and it a big but it does need a lot of time and patience. Your landscapes are fun holiday sketches we feel we can all have a go at and get a result. I still find with my skies when I try and go back in and add extra tone and shadow I get horrible backwashes and cauliflowers due the different water mixes. Hopefully your upcoming course will cover this.
Hi Mike! Oliver Pyle is indeed fantastic! My course might help with that, a lot of the focus is on creating watercolour effects (like cauliflowers and blooms) and quickly making watercolours interesting. So in a sense, it's more about making cauliflowers than preventing them! Along with a bit of colour theory, varied washes and the like. Essentially everything I do in my videos normally, but in much more detail. I don't want you to get a false idea about my course.
