Which rectangle do you find yourself using the most??? I feel like I use a lot of center rectangles... 🤔 - P.S. THANK YOU! I thought that the 2 point rectangle was complete trash because it would only let me make an exact length for one side. I didn't know that the button that allows me to switch to the other parameter was tab.

Glad to see you are starting from the beginning "how to" this is encouraging. You see I understand some of the doings of Fusion but still other elude my hungry grasp. So it is time to follow your basic review and see if I can learn those gotchas the seem to meet me at every corner. And this when I thought my gray matter had it all understood.

Hi, Rud Dog. I'm happy to hear you are enjoying these. My goal is to build up a library of each tool/command, which should be helpful for those times of needing a quick refresher without having to work through a full tutorial. Cheers, Kevin :)

Although not new to computer programs/code (SQL), I'm totally new to 3D CAD. I build acoustic guitars and am looking to automate carving of the fretboard, neck, inlays, etc.

Hey Kevin, good video but you missed something though.. 3 point rectangles are used when you want to draw a rectangle at an angle other than straight horizontal/vertical. That's why it has perpendicular constraints on it instead of horiz/vertical ones.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 5 лет назад
Hi, tralfazy. You're right! Good catch :) Every once in a while I get so caught up in speaking clearly, etc that I do silly things like that... The icon even shows it at an angle which should've reminded me that's what its for! haha Thanks again for bringing this to my attention. Cheers, Kevin :)

@@ProductDesignOnline Probably most of us draw a regular rectangle and then rotate it afterwards because we forgot that there's a tool for that. :o)

@@tralfazy Very true. I find myself almost always using the 2-point rectangle lol :)

Yup - I have to create rectangles & squares at an angle, and what I need is the right angle constraint at the corners, not the horizontal/vert constraint. I can rotate it easier with fewer clicks.

Thanks again. Following from this could you do some wood working centric videos. Cabinet making would be great.

Hi, John. Thanks for the suggestion!... I was actually just thinking about this the other day. I'm a hobbyist woodworker and just build out a project last week that I had designed in F360. I'll try to make a video that helps with estimating materials, etc. I've got it on the list of video ideas. Cheers, Kevin :)

Trying to do a 2 point rectangle. Got the plane XY chosen and drawing the rectangle. I don't see where I can add the sizes and when I let go of the mouse the drawing goes away. Help?
@blairdobbie4282
@blairdobbie4282 3 года назад
this was useful for operating the tool. Now the user needs to find out how to explicitly place the corners on the sketch plane. I don't see any x-y address for the corner(s) or an option to enter this address. This is sketching and not drafting. Need dimensional control.

How do I make a rectangle that is already sketched, bigger on both sides equally. Example, if I have sketched a rectangle which is 80mm *120mm, and I change the 120mm to 160mm, all the extra length gets added to the one side, is there a way of adding the extra length to both sides so 20mm gets added to the right side, and 20mm on the left. Its for a lid on a box, but when I change the size to 160, it overhangs the box on one side, and not equally both sides. Hope that makes sense.

A good lesson, but you omitted the question of where to put the damn rectangle in the first place. This is critical when sketching on the face of an existing part, so the rectangle has to be in a particular place on the part. But F360 does not give you a chance to specify the location of the first point, which determines the location. It is stuff like this that makes F360 so hard, for me at least.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 3 года назад
I'm not sure I'm following your question, Joe. Every time you go to create a rectangle you have to define the first point. Of course, where you place that point will dictate the start of the rectangle, dependent on which rectangle type you're using. keep in mind that you can sketch a rectangle anywhere and use constraints and dimensions to position it in place. These feature-based videos are focused only on how to use the feature itself. In all of my project-based videos I demo The concepts such as constraining, dimensioning, positioning, etc..

@@ProductDesignOnline In my case I wanted to place a rectangle on the surface of a part. It needed to be at a specific location, like x=0.31459, y=0.628. I could not see a way to tell F360 where that first point should be, or a way to move it once I established it by clicking. Now I recognize that you may have covered this point in another lesson, but I came to this one by a search in RU-vid, and had never seen the earlier ones. I think it would expand the usefulness of the lesson if it would include the solution to this problem.

I created 3-point rectangle but then deleted diagonal constructions line. How to get these back (but not via undo) ? Drawing diagonal construction lines doesn't do much.
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 2 года назад
The only way would be to draw the diagonal construction lines + add the sketch constraints to them. The various preset sketch tool automatically include 'sketch constraints' which is what makes them efficient. That said, you can technically recreate all of the same geometry manually using the same sketch tool + combination of sketch constraints.

Yep, that is correct. I find myself using all commands in Fusion 360 without ever knowing what is going on. My dimensions are gone for ever and now I can only draw rectangles with construction lines. For sure the stupidest sketch tool ever developed.
