For sliding it's the same, and for diving I would treat it as a high head first slide. Ball your throwing hand and raise your shoulder. You should also raise your head to avoid neck injuries
This is a really important topic to cover Coach. So many people think nothing of it & take it for granted that anyone can slide. How wrong they are. I’ve umpired & coached baseball for over 50 years & I can’t tell you how many players I’ve seen injured because of improper sliding technic. I’ve seen broken ankles, broken legs, ACL injuries, jammed toes, knee injuries, broken ankles, broken fingers, broken thumbs, numerous “ strawberries” , a broken nose. The most impotent feelings in the world is taking a player to the emergency room & calling their parents on the phone to tell them you’re at the hospital with their child. I remember a contending high school team one year that was decimated by bad slides. At the end of the season the coach told me that they didn’t teach sliding because they, themselves didn’t know how to properly slide either. It is a very important and I commend you Coach Justin for bringing it up. God Bless You.
@@jspicypretzels7095yo im trying to learn to slide going into my junior year caise i have never played baseball, our team is ass so i dont hvae that much competition
I'm sorry, Justin, but I disagree wholeheartedly with the portion of the video talking about sliding on your butt. The "4" form is fine, but show me a single player in the MLB who slides on their butt and not their side. Secondly, I've seen coaches teach the method you show here as well as instruct players to throw their hands up and this leads to players momentum pulling their bodies straight back leading to their heads bouncing off the ground. Hands out to the side and slide along the hip.
