I am retired and a noob Pipe Smokers. I received my first Peterson System P-lip Pipe today and presently enjoying my first smoke in this Peterson. Thanks Bradley, enjoyed the video. I am a long time Peterson system pipe smoker. Your video was right on! One thing you might cover in a later session is cleaning a meerschaum gourd pipe. I smoke one from time to time. After several years, its time to do a full cleaning, as the gourd itself becomes a bit "goopy" and it has to be cleaned. A video to cover that cleaning I thing would be helpful for a lot of smokers, whether new or seasoned. Cheers! Really enjoying your series..

Wow. That's "overboard" all right, but certainly not in a bad way! I'm a yuuuge fan of the System pipe (and actually also that bit shape on non Peterson pipes.) I agree they take a bit more maintenance, but, "those who know, know." as far as the gentleness (?) of the smoking is on the tongue. Hopefully I'm not pointing you toward another single-use gadget for your pipe tool box: I use the spade to do a "daily" cleaning out in the bowl - dumping out the ashes between smokes in the same session/on the same day (these smaller pipes don't burn very long - one of the things I like about them.) For that "put it away and switch pipes" cleaning, I occasionally use a spring-loaded reamer to get an even cut to the cake on the inside of the bowl. I'm assuming they still make such a thing: mine is an antique I found in an estate collection of (wait for it) estate pipes. The advantage of that over a knife or spade is that you get even pressure against the sides of the bowl and won't end up with an uneven cake. Just a few twists and you're done. BUT - this is something that doesn't have to be used frequently, just if you look to be getting a lopsided cake. I don't see a practical use for this tool until the cake starts building up, unless you prefer a pipe with NO cake inside, and want to clean it back to the wood.

I use a q-tip to swab out the reservoir before using the pipe tool to clean out the bowl. If you just go straight to cleaning out the bowl and got the bowl/reservoir spinning around then whatever moisture is trapped in the reservoir is allowed to go all over the place. Swab the reservoir out first with a q-tip to get it dry

Hey Bradley... I'm new to pipe smoking, my question is... should I buy a peterson system pipe? Right now I have a La Rocca Roma 04 pipe. But I'm searching for another pipe.

Bradley, great video as usual. I'm having a problem locating Deluxe system pipes. I can only find the standard system without the aluminum or horn stem insert. I called Somking pipes and pretty much they confirmed the only system available is the original system without the end piece. Has the Deluxe system been discontinued perhaps? Love your vids. Ralph
