Just turned 18 not too long ago and my father gave me the pipe his father gave him when he turned 18, only problem is, he didn't teach me the things you did, so Im glad I found this, thank you
@steelmesh are you serious... somebody asks you not to bash a stranger and you call them a flamer. You really don't have any idea who you are in this situation
@steelmesh cool guy, one minute he's a jerk to complete strangers, the next minute he is the smart one trolling others. You were still a jerk, even if you were "trolling". Such a weak excuse for being a jerk, but whatever floats your boat. Happy piping to you and your family.
Old smoker first time listener. I always have trouble getting cats to come out from anywhere. This video really helped. Now me and my family won't go hungry tonight. Love you forever. mwah
Just had my first pipe smoke today. Because of your wonderful videos I had instant flavor, no tongue bite, and I didn't have to relight my pipe once! Thank you so much!
As a new pipe smoker I was having the usual struggles of figuring everything out, these vidoes were far and away the best I'd seen and have resulted in a perfect smoke every time since I've employed the methods and tips you've given! Subscribed and enjoying all your videos and looking forward to future ones as well. Thank you!!
Ian Woodrow - I am so pleased to hear that my videos have helped you, thank you for joining the muttnchop pipe club (subscribing). I'm glad to hear things are going well. 👍👍👍
I quit smoking 25 years ago - mostly cigarettes but really enjoyed my pipes. I'm seriously thinking about cleaning up my pipes (about 27 of them) and enjoying this pleasure once again. Love your videos. I used to smoke a blend from Faders in Maryland called Black Flake. Just from your videos, I would like to experiment with other tobaccos. Keep the videos going.
I'm a beginning pipe smoker, and I want to express my gratitude for the awesome videos you post sir. I really learn a lot from them. Cheers from Belgium.
I've recently moved from a mostly cigar/ very rare occasion pipe smoker to smoking my pipe almost exclusively. I really enjoy your videos and the way that you convey information. You're channel is always my first stop when I have a question or am wondering about something when it comes to smoking my pipe. Thanks for what you do.
I myself am from Ukraine and a novice pipe smoker. I am so pleased to listen to you, you explain in such an accessible way, you simply cannot convey how nice you are. Thank you for such a pleasant and accessible explanation for beginners.
Exactly what I had in mind as a quality-enthusiastic based and straightforward introduction video from an expert - for an absolute beginner like me. Perfect 👍
I know I'm a bit late with commenting on this video. I finally came to a desition to smoke a pipe, at least to try. Yesterday I tried to find videos of tutorials explaining to beginners how to start. And I went through all the videos of your and I am thrilled with your approach! Now, my dad used to smoke a pipe while I was a kid and this smoke smell remained in my memory. He also painted with oil colours while smoking and these aromas stuck with me. Today, I paint also as my dad did and pipe tobacco smell remained missing to me... I tried before but now, after your videos I am very encouraged. I am smoking now as I'm writing these words. I need to practice although, following your advices, the first experience is going very well! Half an hour went by and it's still nice and smokey aroma... Thank you very much. God bless.
thank you im re-finding pipes from my teenage years. forgot everything involved. your new video helped too. quit cigs 3 months ago and now i smoke pipe when drinking.
Thanks for the video. Especially the part about lighting the pipe and coaxing the flavor. I keep reminding myself to slow down. Much appreciated. Safe Travels.
Your welcome Reedbender, try this if you get a chance, when you get to about half a bowl hold the flame near the tobacco and lightly draw, just the heat from the flame will ignite the tobacco, it looks so cool 😄
I've watched a hundred videos and still never got it until YOU. This video and volume 2 taught me and now I thoroughly enjoy my pipe with ZERO tongue bite so far plus WAY more enjoyable. This IS how you smoke a tobacco pipe. I don't see how a guy wouldn't enjoy a pipe after this. Thank you thank you thank you!
Gave away cigarettes 8 yrs ago, picked up a cigar a few weeks ago and quite enjoyed it...today purchased an old K&P Peterson tobacco pipe with the intension of restoring its handsome shape and texture purposely to indulge. Understanding the art of classical pipe etiquette by a master...thank you dear Sir.
Thank you for your easy to understand beginner tips! Just picked up my first pipe today, after many years of wanting to get into the pipe smoking hobby.
My first pipe arrived today (Peterson's Killarney). Your channel cleared all of my misassumptions and provided lots of crucial info. Thank you, also subbed.
So glad I found your channel. I just am starting the hobby of pipe smoking. Your video gave me more good info in 15 mins than literally dozens of other videos I watched. I've subscribed and am eager to explore your other videos. I actually am starting with a clay 18th century replica pipe. Looking forward to exploring others.
@@davidthompson6834 me too. It's one of the beautiful american english accents. Very pleasing to listen to. And have you noticed how Muttnchop Piper doesn't ever speak like he is in a hurry? At first I was thinking it was slow, but now I understand that it's a part of the lifestyle. No stress. Or less stress, but still. Careful, relaxed explaining. It really puts you into that state of mind. Smoking quality tobacco, relaxing, enjoying your day.
Same sort of principles I was shown by a professional cigar guy. You gently toast the cigar and turning it slowly with slow draws to get it burning nice. Great demo here
Thank you very much for this video. The "coaxing" of the tabaco was beautifully illustrated and caused me to have an aha-experience because I started just today with my first pipe. I am eager to test this with my second try. (Greetings from Germany)
Learn something new, everyday. I've been scorching the h-e-double hockey sticks out of my tobacco on the charring light. Can't wait to try a bowl with the "kissing" method, today! Thanks!
I just received a pipe as a gift this past week , After years of smoking cigarettes I quit .... Now I’m very interested in learning how to smoke a pipe the right way and not burn myself in public , 😂 Thank you for this step 2 tutorial I’ll be listening , Thank you
Thank you! I am relatively new to the scene- thanks to a good friend of mine intriducing me to pipes two years back. I found some great tips here - happy piping good sir!
Suddenly I feel bad for my cellar. My tobacco must think i'm The Great Chicago Fire with how abusive I am. Gonna give these tips a try tonight for sure. Always looking to improve.
I'll be the first to admit, I was focused on smoke production and not taste, once a friend of mine set me strait, my pipe smoking experienced changed for the better, taste is the one and only thing I should have been focusing on, now that I do.....it's a beautiful thing brother. Thanks for viewing my videos. 😄
+Muttnchop Piper And thank you for making great videos! Using your advice I did slow down a bit and focused on the flavor. I'm a retrohaler, so there is a habit for me to want to have that thick plume of smoke rushing through my nostrils. It's also why I smoke so fast. I breathe in through my nose while drawing the smoke from the pipe and then breathe the pipe smoke back out my nose and through the pipe. I rinse and repeat with each breathe. So the pipe is constantly being "stoked" so to say. I did noticed a big difference while using your lighting techniques. My tobacco definitely burned more even and burned all the way down to the bottom. I had definitely been neglecting the charring light. The little hint about removing the top bit of ash on the back end of the bowl was genius. Worked perfectly and allowed me to get that last bit of tobacco that us usually stuck under the ash. When I emptied my pipe, there was nothing smoke-able left. I love the pipe you have in this vid, what exactly is it? I want one.
Literally bought my first pipe today. The guy at the shop recommended your channel. As a lord of the rings fan, I definitely recognized aragorns pipe. I have to get me one of those
Kato Khaelan - thanks my friend, and just so you know you don't subscribe to my channel, you have joined the muttnchop pipe club, subscribing is such a cold term, so welcome to the club my friend. 👍😃👍
Appreciate it, I watched about 10 vids and this was the most helpful in getting me to understand how to keep it lit. A lifetime of watching my dad suck down cigarettes and myself with cigars, I was doing everything waaaay too fast for the pipe.
Just inherited my grandfather's pipe :) I have never smoked out of a pipe before but tonight is the night after spending the last 3 nights watching these incredible videos.... Nothing but Grade A information here!
Hey Muttonchop Piper, I recently started smoking pipe. I smoked cigarettes for years and quit. A few years later I started smoking Cigars, which made smoking all about tasting tobacco for me. I found your channel, and have really enjoyed pipe. I cleaned up about 10 of my Grandfather's pipes watching your videos. Cheers
I am a new pipe smoker and your videos have been immensely helpful and enjoyable. I don’t feel I have gotten it right just yet but will keep trying, it is a fun journey so far
Thank you for this video, I've been beating my brains out on trying to smoke a pipe and first one after watching this and it was a perfect smoke the whole way through
I'm a cigar smoker and used to smoke a pipe. I'm getting back into pipe smoking. I also love to bbq and your analogy about lighting a pipe to smoking meat is spot on.
Should be required watching for all new smokers. I wish I had watched this a month ago when I was just getting started and I would have spared myself a lot of struggles as I have worked to figure this all out. I’m finding all your vlogs so helpful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I started smoking pipes because of J.R.R. Tolkien, and I looked up how to start smoking. I was instantly drawn to your videos because you had reminded me of a Tolkien character. I was not displeased at all to find you were a Tolkien fan, started smoking because of him, and wanted to teach others to learn the art. I appreciate you for all you've done, and thank you for contributing to us newbies.
Great video. Wish I watched it before even starting to try to smoke pipes. I was getting discouraged until watching this and tried your suggestions and it just clicked and now smoking is really enjoyable for me. Thanks.
You bet my friend, thats why I created this channel, so new pipe smokers had a guide to success when smoking a pipe. I hope I have earned a subscriber lol
Muttn chop piper, thank you for the very informative videos. I work in a B&M in Columbus and have started putting your channel on the tote bag of all the newbies that come through. keep up the fine work
Great guidance for the new pipe smoker. I miss smoking my pipes. I prefer to smoke indoors and have been renting for a long time but am hopefully buying my own place soon so I can finally enjoy my pipes whenever I want.
I already know how to smoke a pipe but the information is useful and pipe smoking is a relaxing deal at night after a long day. I'm an experienced pipe smoker for thirteen years since my early twenties a friend had got me started on pipe smoking and taught me how to and know how's and do's and don't on pipe smoking. Sometimes I buy pipe tobacco from Pipes and Cigars and there is always a guarantee that I find the good tobacco on the site.
A long time family friend smoked a pipe, when I was a child I loved the aromatic smell of the burning tobacco. I also enjoy the smell of cigar smoke if its a sweet and aromatic type like vanilla.
Love the lamb chops. Been a long time since I’ve seen a a set like yours

Was a normal cigar smoker until recently when i bought myself an old transylvanian shepherd long pipe. It's unbelievable how nice it goes with reading. Just like a good wine with a nice dinner. The clip helped me, i finally managed to keep my smoke going and enjoy the flavour instead of burned taste.
When you pack your pipe: do a big pinch and pack it lightly, another pinch and pack it a little more firm, then again and pack it kinda tight, but not pushing too tight what you already have packed. Then light it across the whole surface, let it burn for about a half minute of long puffing, lightly tap it with your tool to make a smooth surface with the ash and embers, puff a little longer, gently tap it again with your tamper and re light it again. If you do this it should burn through perfectly to the end. I typically never have to relight it. This dude kinda does that but explains it differently. He does a great job.
Greetings from London and thanks for your great videos, Sir. So far this was the clearest and most helpful video about starting out I found! Having my first pipe smoke today, I realised I got it all wrong..until now.
What a great tutorial I'm fairly new to pipe smoking and after watching your Tutorial I realized I've been scorching my tobacco, after following you steps WHAT A GREAT SMOKE !!!
Muttnchop, I recently took up pipe smoking in November. After many episodes of tongue bite, scorched tobacco, and mouths full of ash, finally getting to the breathe method video, and these videos have finally allowed me to have a cool dry smoke where I can actually coax the delicate flavors from the tobacco, like someone would coax a cat out from under a couch, and lick the tobacco with the flame and not scorch the tobacco and the flavor right out of it. These videos have been instrumental in the advancement of my pipe smoking experience and I am looking forward to pipe club 2018!
Man, I gotta say... The moment I looked at you I went like: This is a man I can trust. I was not wrong. Thank you for the tutorial. Gonna go buy a pipe tomorrow. Cheers.
I’ve been watching a ton of your videos the last few months and they are all great. As a new pipe smoker, these help a lot. My tongue and pipe bowls also thank you tremendously. 👍
Muttnchop Piper you’re videos have been incredibly valuable for me during my venture back into pipe smoking. I gave up on the hobby because I had no idea what I was doing. I realize now that I was doing it all wrong. Creating a cooler smoke and developing a rhythm has totally changed my experience. I have a long way to go, but look forward to discovering the wide world of tobacco through the pipe. Thank you for all that you do. Keep up the good work. Wishing you and your family happy piping!
