How to solder a BNC connector. Properly.

I was frustrated by the videos on RU-vid showing different ways of soldering a BNC connector but none explained in detail. Sometimes you even needed special tools to do it.
Here you can find BNC connectors and all the tools you need to finish your job:
1. BNC connectors: amzn.to/2BE4TcA
2. Soldering iron: amzn.to/2BFMk7R
3. Soldering tin: amzn.to/2EVoRSe

I have this exact connector. Was desperately looking for a 'how to' video (or even a textual explanation). You explain it very well (and at a pace that allows me to simultaneously solder the thing without pausing the video)

Hi, you have to heat up the pin from one side with the soldering iron and push the solder into the hole on the pin from the other side. Thats how you solder a pin on a cable. Because your way you can never be sure how much solder has actually reached the middle wire.

His way is basically wrong. Soldering 101.

To minimise the risk of a dry joint, tin the coax first before trying to solder the pin.

Right! You will also avoid stray wires which may cause short to ground.

Got the jobb done but I tinned the + before putting on the pin and then just heated the pin. Very efektiv and goes faster.

HOLA , aunque es difícil elegir un conector apropiado BNC con CABLE RG-58 y que quede bien y solido , he probado este conector y tu manera de montarlo y han quedado realmente bien . buen trabajo ..

I believe you are putting the small white plastic insulator on backwards. The smaller hole end fits the pin securely and the cup end fits the coax center dielectric nicely. Please check this.

Pamona Electronics #4488 is almost the same connector. It is screw tight connection for RG-58,-141,-142 size coax.

I find that if you go more than 100 feet of cable and you attempt to use the extension coupling that comes with the cables.... you will get intermittant video loss from your security camera... i am going to try to just solder the addition length cable that i need together and bypass the quick connector... can you offer any suggestions before i attempt this... thanks.

How are you doing this for the female connector? With my female connector there isn't any anchor and restrainer only the female pin, rubber sleeve, 2 washers and the nut. But there is noway i know off too lock this. I can pull the pin out of the connector easily. I am missing the anchor with the female connector? Or is this only for male connectors. Thanks. :)

Hi, thanks for responding! This are the parts. I forgot to mention one part, don't know how it's called. Here is an image: imgur.com/a/S53IaC1 Thanks for looking into it! :)
@S7udio1381
@S7udio1381 5 лет назад
@@Mart1250 Sorry it took me so long. The parts are 1...7, 1 being the cable and 7 the rubber sleeve. From what I see, I would put them in order 1 (cable) , 4 (nut), 5, 7, 6, 3, 2. With this in mind I think that the rubber sleeve should constrict the plastic inner insulation or outer black shielding. Something should also connect the housing (2) to the shielding, maybe that's the purpose of part 3.
@Mart1250
@Mart1250 5 лет назад
@@S7udio1381 Thank you for your reply!, I already found the answer. The braid needs to be folded back over the restrainer. That way it is locked. That is the second part from the left at the image I posted.
@Mart1250
@Mart1250 5 лет назад
Also you need to cut the braid until the restrainer length ends. Just give it a haircut.

Does anyone know how to go about painting your BNC adaptor (black for example)? Is it safe to just spray it on with a can? I've seen a lot of BNC adaptors black and I want to be able to do this with an adaptor that only comes in chrome.
@hestheMaster
@hestheMaster 4 года назад
You can go to any home hardware store and pick up Rust-oleum appliance epoxy paint. It is a brush on paint and a brush is included in the cap. It comes in black,almond, and white. Pretty tough stuff and oh and don't spray paint the connectors, it will never stick nor cover completely the chrome like metal surface.
@IceKnight366
@IceKnight366 4 года назад
@@hestheMaster Thanks for the reply! So I want to paint the adaptor, but you said don't paint the connector. What's the difference? I want to make sure I don't paint the wrong thing, but also want to be able to get rid of that reflective chrome finish.
@hestheMaster
@hestheMaster 4 года назад
@@IceKnight366 If you have an adapter that is one metal piece that connects to a RCA plug for instance don't paint the metal part the plug goes into the adapter just the rest of the body. You must not insulate the outside of it as it is technically the ground.
@IceKnight366
@IceKnight366 4 года назад
@@hestheMaster ok, so basically don't paint the pin and threads on the inside, but I can paint the whole outside? Is that about right? Apologies as this technical stuff is not my forte.

I used to love those connectors. Today I can only buy the crimp-on ones, which means you can't swap them to a new lead.

5:29 the montage is too complicated (isn`t easy) - because the insulation and plastic details mealt.

This is definitely NOT the proper way to solder a pin to a conductor. You heat the pin first, preferably on the side opposite the solder hole and then let the heated pin melt the solder and pull it into the hole.
@CyberKolobok
@CyberKolobok Год назад
Incorrect! The braid must be squeezed between the nut and the anchor. In your case the second nut is useless, it must be put before the anchor, not after it.
