The shop that I had do mine messed them up. One of them ended up like 15 degrees off. They fixed it, but it still sucked because I didn't have my horn. They clearly didn't clip them down like you did in this video.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. There is no cuter sound than Art's flux neutralizer spray bottle squeaking 🥧😅

You might find this goes a little smoother if you tin both the key and the coin before soldering them together. Clean and flux each surface separately. Then heat each surface (separately) and apply just enough solder so it looks like you just unsoldered it. Clamp the two together and heat them and it should take very little more solder to make a perfect joint.

I'm a woodwind player but I dabble in tuba also. Never thought about soldering coins to the levers but it seems cool. Could the same thing be done to the levers on my rotary tuba?

Absolutely. Probably just need a slightly larger coin like about the size of a nickel maybe?

@@davemiller7633 perhaps. that may be a modification I consider in the future

Wouldn’t sold silver coins be preferable?

Any coin will work. My customer wanted those coins for sentimental reasons.

The French horn valve repair videos were kind of disjointed. I may be missing something, but I didn't find another video on the fitting of the rotary valves, or the final "it's all done" video.

Yes, you are correct. I ran into several problems along the way and I needed to work on other pressing things. That made the videos hard to follow. Sorry about that. I did learn a lot that I did not know so that should help me when I do similar repairs.

Bronze alloy...if he uses the horn, they are going to wear out fairly quickly. Older 6 pence coins of nickel are a better choice if it must be done.

Just use hot glue. It works absolutely fine and you can remove it without any marks!

I am asking is this for real? I can hot glue the dimes to the levers?

I put coins on mine with rubber cement. This might sound like a bad idea, but they've stayed on for 15 years with absolutely no issue. The horn has been chemical cleaned a couple of times and that didn't affect them either.
