How To Sort A List Of Names Alphabetically In Word

In this video tutorial I'll show you how it's possible not just to sort any list written in Microsoft Word into alphabetical order, but how to sort a list containing both first names and surnames into the correct order. I'll also show you a quick trick using the Find and Replace tool.

@@TheTechTrain , if they do, they are just silly. I'm Romanian and I teach English, I will definitely use this video in a listening comprehension lesson. I'll tell my kids : "See? This is what a true posh British voice sounds like" lol.

But, this method doesn't work with this same list of names inside of a TABLE, does it? I've tried this method several times with your outlined process working perfectly, Justin with names on just a blank page; however, when the list of names is in a lined table in Word, this protocol doesn't seem to work, correct me if I'm wrong.

i have 5000 words which i want to sort by alpabatic order. but i want to sort by 3rd latter of every word(examples : apple, karrot, kangaroo in which i want to sort by 3 rd word =kangaroo apple karrot.) but this not directly occurre in Microsoft word(Microsoft Word only sort by 1st word) can you help me or give any software suggestions!

That's fine for lists written in Microsoft Word, but how do you get your list there from paper? I have a list on 30 pages of paper (two columns per page) that I need to alphabetize. How do I get the lists from paper to Microsoft Word?

You will need a document scanner to scan in the paper document. The scanner will usually come with a document reader which will be able to convert into editable text that you can then edit in Microsoft Word. You can find a selection of suitable scanners here: goo.gl/eSAr6r

Thanks, but can the same thing be accomplished by downloading the right app? Aren't there OCR apps? (I've learned a little since I started) I already have a printer with a scanner (not an OCR scanner), and I was hoping that I could use my printer/scanner with an OCR app to do what I want.

If your scanner can create PDF documents then simply go into Word and go to File > Open, and navigate to the PDF document. Word will then usually do a pretty good job of converting the file to an editable format.

Literally nothing. There is no change whatsoever. I am using Microsoft Word 2010 Starter, and it should work perfectly fine with that. Not sure why it isn't though....
