Great video! For Henderson fans (and non-fans alike) I highly recommend his instruction video "melodic phrasing" - if you can get your hands on it. I got it as a 16 year old nerd, expecting scales and and a bag of tricks. Instead, my mind was blown by some of the deepest philosophy of improvisation I've ever heard. No scales, no technique, no gear run-downs. Just a lot of wisdom. I never looked back.

Super job at cracking the code. When you play that way, your left hand even looks like Scott's. :)

Thanks, Danny as always your musical IQ is unsurpassed. I’ve been searching for this for a while. This is the first lesson. I found that outlines clearly which diminished inversion to play over which part of the 12 bar or jazz blues.

These player analysis' are great; succinct, clearly explained and shows the essence of a given player in a nutshell. Not only a great player but a great teacher. I could listen to him talk about music and play guitar all afternoon!

Using diminished over the V of II (preparing B minor) is a no-no, according to my teacher Mick Goodrick. BUT, it sounds cool AF, and had I stayed longer I'm sure he'd have told me that. Good lesson.

Dude, I love your lessons! And "Intro" from Aggressive Hippies is one of my favorite tunes, bar none. You're a killer player man, here's hoping the rest of the world catches on and Marbin gets all the recognition you guys deserve.

Nice analysis mate :) I've always loved Scotts approach to pentatonics (shifting up a 2nd etc). The diminished idea is a perfect extension of that - and makes sense!

I love the Tribal Tech stuff. After that it sounds too much like Jeff Beck. But Scott is still a great hero of mine. His Vibe Station CD is pretty great!

I also prefer his early era, however I always have to admit his current era is astoundingly creative, as you put it "more recognizable". Frankly some of the things he plays nowadays are creative wonders, thanks for cracking some of the code!

I have several Scott Henderson records, both the blues and the fusion ones, and also enjoy Marbin immensely- that version of Redline on RU-vid is ace. What I learned from this video is that I am as thick as shit LOL.

On the intro description - I totally disagree about Scott's original sound. His early Tribal Tech days with the humbuckers were a much more unique tone to me. He carved his own niche tonally back then. The move to the Strat is more of an homage to Jeff Beck with a much more linear approach. But tonally not very unique - not as rich of a tone. Thanks for the informative lesson nonetheless.

its kinda blasphemous that you say he doesnt have a developed right hand. why, because he doesnt play like rusty cooley? i just have to laugh at that. thats like me saying you are covering his later years because you arent as developed as his earlier tribal tech years.
