CORRECTION! It's been pointed out to me that RBass doesn't add "subharmonics" (below the fundamental of the note), but just regular old harmonics, above the fundamental. This helps it cut through with the same punch on smaller speakers, giving the impression of a bigger bass sound, even when the speaker can't reproduce it. Whoops! Thanks to my dude Mikhail over at Love Raptor for pointing that one out to me!

awesome video man! waves does make one that adds "subharmonics" I believe it's called Lo-Air. There's another good one called "Lowender" by reFuse.

This was really enjoyable to watch. I've found Vulfpeck's drum tones really quite interesting and hard to flog. This was really insightful and definitely gave me a lot of ideas.

It's amazing to me how proficient you are in every instrument AND you have all this mixing experience. Green Hill Zone is the best!

Hey, Dean! I really like this video. Wouldn't mind seeing more of these in the future. *hint, hint* I noticed that you seem to always compress before eq. Do you always do this or only in this project?
@longestsoloever
@longestsoloever 4 года назад
Good question! I think I'll expand on this answer in my next Q&A, but the short answer is, I actually usually put my EQ before the compressor (which I think I did in this video? I was up all night editing, and I'm not 100% sure haha). The reason for this is I don't want the compressor reacting to signals I didn't want in there in the first place, especially low-frequency rumble in things like guitar and vocals. Sometimes I'll put a more "creative" EQ afterward, as the compressor can sort of exaggerate the effects of the EQ, and I may not want that.

Sounds great dude! Been seshing green hill funk all week, could you post the vulf compressor settings you used on the master? Sharing is caring after all ❤️

One thing the Vulf Comp does is bring out the hihats I find. So as you crank the compression you have to watch that the hats don't get too prevalent.

Just added them in the description! In retrospect they're not all tutorials (though his piano tutorials are immensely helpful), but more general rants that reveal a lot of his production process.

Nice Video, first one i saw from you. Very good explanation with a bit of deep diving, but not too much into everything to keep it short, i liked that. for other music, have a look at snarky puppy and busty and the bass. you either know them allready or if not, i think you will enjoy them!

Awesome video! How far away was the d112? Aimed at the beater or slightly off. I love my d112 but it can take some experimentation with positioning

Thanks! The mic was pretty much right between the two heads, pointed straight at the beater but a couple inches below.
