Sound Blocker is a 2mm thick, self adhesive, sound-deadening mat for campervan conversions. It helps reduce vibration and resonance in the large, flat metal panels of your van’s side walls. Sound Blocker ‘deadens’ the panels and gets rid of the ‘tinny’ road noise in the back of your van as you drive along. We recommend using sound blocker as the first step in a 4-step van lining system:
1. Sound Blocker
2. Thermo-Acoustic Foam
3. Thermal Fill Insulation
4. Stretch Lining Carpet

Wish I saw this video 2 days ago. I bought your lining kit and 5 extra pieces after watching your old video. Ran out so bought 10 more thinking I needed to cover all panels. Ah well van should be quiet now 😆

I would have thought the roof needs to be done as we were out in the woods with our new unlined van and the rain drops were really loud... so I though would be good to do. Or is this the main purpose of the thermo acoustic foam instead? Thx

We recommend our self adhesive Thermo Accoustic Foam and Thermal Fill for the majority of UK small-van owners, who plan to use their vans mostly from Spring through to Autumn. For bigger vans and those who intend to live in their vehicles year round you would be better to do specific research for your requirements. There is no 'perfect' solution out there but there are lots of opinions...

Hi there Kiravans, my van will be fully glazed front to rear and also the barn doors will be glazed which means I should have 4 sheets left to sound deaden the rear doors. I have fitted big knobbly tyres to my 2020 4motion T6.1 and it sounds like the wheel bearings are knackered from the buzz, do you suggest still covering the rear arches (I would say so). Do you also suggest covering the whole floor area bearing in mind the floor will have the standard VW rubber flooring. Please answer quickly if at all possible with the greatest respect as my van is going in on the 21st September to have a new roof fitted. My T6.1 is a 3200kg SWB. If the floor needs deadening how many sheets to cover the floor area. Also if I cover the rear arches does the silver side of the deadening need to be roughed up a little (I would imagine it would) so that spray adhesive will key to the surface before applying 4 x stretch grey fabric, many thanks in advance.

Hi Rob, sound deadening a van is an inexact science so there is no right or wrong answer. I usually reckon that once you have applied sound deadening mat to the large flat panels you have achieved the majority of the benefit from this product. Everything after this will result in diminishing returns. In your case it would probably help to do the wheel arches but I wouldn't do the floor myself if I was putting down a VW rubber floor mat, as they are designed to soak up a lot of noise due to their density. However, I know some people will sound deaden every available surface and that is really just a personal choice. From my experience you don't need to rough up the the deadening mat for adhesion to work as the HT spray glue is designed to work well on smooth surfaces and lining carpet weighs next to nothing so there is no tensile force trying to pull it away.

I see other videos where folks just add strips of this material on each panel but did not cover the whole panel. Just enough to reduce vibration. What is your optinion?

It's a bit of an inexact science really. I probably could have used a bit less to achieve similar results, but then I would have loads of comments on here asking why I used so little :) I know the companies who specialise in just sound deadening products recommend covering every surface in it, but I don't think that is necessary so I tend to take the middle path. In terms of time, cost and weight - using any less that I did wouldn't have made any appreciable savings.

Why not do arches as these are where most of the noise is from?
@kiravans5874
@kiravans5874 4 года назад
Hi, you still can do the wheel arches and I know lots of people do, but I'm just not convinced that this particular product will help reduce noise in an area where the metalwork already produces a pretty 'dead' sound. I think to really reduce wheel-arch noise you would have to put a layer of closed cell foam on them. I have seen this done 'outside' the van by taking off the plastic liners above the wheels and inserting a layer between the metal and the liner but that's all becoming a bit of a faff! It's just my own conclusions from learning a bit more about how and where industrial engineers use this type of product.

Hi, I ended up getting a used VW rubber floor mat for this van as it was a Kombi conversion with back seats. I haven't done a plywood floor video yet - I will do one when I next get an empty van to play with :)
