Thanks so much! Glad that you found it so soothing. It's nice to have gardening videos on in the background while you do other tasks, I find it keeps me in the mindset. Cosmos is one of our favourite flowers to grow 🌼😀
Once you begin growing them, it's easy to get hooked because they are such great plants. There are so many varieties to try too so there's always something new to try. Thanks for watching 😀
Thanks for this. I have grown cosmos before but it was really useful to have your simple to understand step by step approach. I have some vermiculite so will definitely be using that. Happy growing and thanks again. :)
You're very welcome, glad the video has helped. We use vermiculite on most seeds and it works really well. Our seeds have already germinated and are growing well inside on the window ledge. Happy gardening and sowing to you too 😀
Lovely video. Cosmos are my favourite flower too. I am sowing cosmos Apricotta and Pinky as well as white this year. Can't wait to see them. Thank you..🌸♥
You are very trusting to only place one seed in each module. I alwys sow 2 as germination of ever seed is very rare and I hate having spaces in my modules. If 2 germinate then I can always prick it out and put is a separate pot to grow on. I love cosmos- such beautiful flowers and as you say, great for cutting! Happy gardening 😃
With seeds that I find difficult to germinate, I'll sow two but mostly I only sow the one to save on seed and to prevent growing too many (which I'm guilty of!) It's good that you pot up any extras that germinate as I've seen people throw them away which is a shame. Thanks for watching 😁 👍
I wouldn't be without Cosmos in my garden. I've not seen the double click cranberries or Mandarin seeds before but I've had Polidor which is an orange variety and always does well for me. You've inspired me to grow Xanthos again as I didn't have any success with that last year. Watching this video, I think I had the temperature too low for them to germinate. I always grow Purity, Sensation and Sonata and they never fail.
Neither would we, they flower for months and the pollinators love them. Polidor is new to us too, it's a bit taler than Mandarin so we might try it at some point. Glad to hear you are going to try Xanthos again, it's worth a go for those lovely yellow flowers. We already have some germination on the Double Click Cranberries and they were only sown a few days ago. Purity is a lovely one, we grew that for many years in Sheffield. We need a larger garden to grow all of the varieties that we are hearing about! Take care Wendy xxxx
I just bought Cupcake Blush,Double Click Snow Puff,Double Click Cranberries,Double Dutch White and Rose.Last year i had only Seashells and Tip Top Picotee.Thank you
That's a lovely mix of varieties. We only grew the Cupcake Blush last year but like you, we are growing more this year. They are quite addictive once you grow them. Take care and thanks for watching.
Love watching your videos. Planted 80 cosoms seeds and had good germination but still ony 1 set of leaves - shall I pot them on in multi-purpose compost rather than keep waiting for more leaves to appear in the modules I planted them in? NB: Just found your video on 'leggy seedlings' so that has answered my question. Many thanks.
Glad our other video has answered your question. That's a lot of Cosmos plants 😁 I thought I had grown lots this year but nowhere near 80! Thanks for watching Janet.
For the UK, we would suggest between March and April indoors and then harden the plants off before planting out after the risk of frost has passed. Thanks for watching 👍
But my cosmos seeds arent germinating! Some are but not chocolate, or purity. Do they like heat mats and humidity domes? Mine didnt so im trying just grow lights nothing else.
It just acts as an alternative to soil to cover over the seeds. It holds on to some moisture at the surface of the tray so seeds don't dry out too quickly. It also allows some light in so that seeds that need light to germinate are able to grow too.
