I have also noticed how we Geordies say "like" an awful lot but we can't be understood. Geordie is like a whole mother language

Jess Lambrini I've noticed Cheryl says "like" a lot. Which, as an American, I appreciate... Young people in the US say "like" every other word, as you may know... My mom's, like, always yelling at me to stop saying "like."

Geordie is easier to understand than Brummie! Although Canadian, I grew up mostly with maternal side of family. Maternal grandfather was Brummie, maternal grandmother & great aunts were Geordie dad and German mom; dad's side was Scottish (paternal grandfather from Edinburgh ), English (paternal grandmother) & Irish. Based on accents, I can tell people where they are from in the UK. After about 15 minutes of speaking with people of UK or watching movie with UK accents, I drop my Canadian accent and mimic accents and use the slang. At 59 years old my I still drive my kids batty when I revert to British /Scottish accents.

Interesting. Where I'm from, Louisiana, we used to say "That's church!", referring to an expected turn for the worse. For instance, a little guy throws a drink in a big guy's face, 'Oh, that's church!'

Nice video, especially helpful adding the words spelled out - helps to understand more clearly and memorize. The only issue, I can't understand why so many RU-vidrs have to add distracting music to "instructive" videos. I try to listen to what is being said but the music just works its way in and I end up not knowing what I just watched.

I just found your channel today, and was sad that you haven't posted a video in a year. I followed your twitter link, and was pleasantly surprised that you are indeed alive. (found a different youtuber who that was not the case a while ago) Judging by your twits, it seems that your health is not great. I do so hope you get better, as I've found myself enjoying your videos, and 100% agreeing with your frustration over the Harry Potter movies. anyway... I hope this finds you well. ~Stephen

Come to think about it, "canny" seems like an equivalent of "pretty". In standard English people won't usually say "she's pretty pretty", more like "she's quite pretty" or "she's rather pretty" but it's still technically possible regardless.
