Really glad I got into speedrunning TDD thanks to this video. The bar for entry is pretty damn low, but the learning curve in order to get truly fast is daunting. Lost plenty of runs in Nave. Still, really fun being able to run through one of my favorite games in less than an hour semi-casually
I want to thank you, dude. This was actually fun to learn and surprising at how quickly you can learn all of the different clips, boosts and what not when shown properly. Four months ago when I did my casual/intended% run for fun I ended up finishing it at 1h 31m 47s. Now I've cut that down to 44m 53s (with quick loads) on my first full practice run. Amazing guide, thanks to this I've overcame the "this run is too hard for me" fear, learnt the whole run step by step and managed to complete a couple of practice runs with everything explained in this tutorial. Im an aspiring speed runner! Thank you so much for this detailed slowed tutorial. I have to say its a bit more difficult to replicate these strats on to a ps4 console but i can vouch most of these work! The ones i had discover that dont work on console, just because we are limited to a remote unfortunately, are the painting clip, double lean, and the refinery goo skip. Im still practicing and making my way through! But with the help of your video and explanation im able to replicate majority so far :)
No problem! Yup, some clips unfortunately don't work on console, and some new ones were introduced too! Have a go at one of the first left wall in Morgue. You'll quickly realise that it simply does not have collision at all, haha. Refinery goo skip does work on console. This is fantastic guide. although since i am VERY new to amnesia speedrunning glitches its a bit hard for me to do the load warping glitch but i think i will eventually get there
When i run the non steam version of the game it lags and stutters all the way through, is there anything I can do to fix this? (steam version runs fine)
Should be slippery vs non-slippery physics as opposed to Steam vs NoSteam exe. The NoSteam exe you have set up to have slippery physics, but if you disable that and then try to launch it, do you still experience issues? Bc loadwarps are massive in this category, so you definitely want to use the NoSteam exe, but you can steer away from slippery strats if slippery causes your game to stutter. Are any of your hardware components in your machine AMD? AMD usually doesn't fare well with Windows compatibility mode, both CPU and GPU (GPU mattering more). That is the "slippery clip" method, and it works on all patches of both PC and console releases. If you're on PC, make sure that you set your game up correctly by following the 'Getting Started' guide linked in the video description. That guide outlines how to enable slippery physics. Without it, none of these object-oriented clips will work. If you prefer to follow along with a video tutorial, there is one hyperlinked in the opening paragraph of the article. If you're on console then I'm afraid the only way for you to perform slippery clips is to get lucky upon map load. Since slippery physics is a phenomenon that can happen at random upon map load (see the 'Slippery Physics' article on the Amnesia speedrunning wiki for more info). This is unfortunately the only way to achieve it on console; and it is _very_ rare. I am currently working on updating this guide where this info is shown more clearly, instead of just being left alone at the bottom of the screen at the start of this video :P
I am at the study attempting to do the wall clip using the painting setup. I am on console, & I can't seem to get it. I have been able to get all the tricks up until then though. Am I doing something wrong with spacing? Or does is console just screwed here :I
Patched on console I'm afraid. Luckily the intended route isn't that much slower. If you haven't checked it out already, there's a playlist on my channel for TDD console speedrunning that shows alternate strats whenever the PC method got patched.
