I've lived in Fort Wayne since my parents moved us here from Florida in 1980. It's not bad, but can be a little vanilla and boring, but the cost of living is below the national average, and it has excellent schools and three major hospitals, including a nationally rated regional medical center. Fort Wayne also has an excellent zoo that rivals those of many cities several times larger. One interesting historical fact that you touched on a little is the old fort itself. The French were the first to build a fort here in the 1600s, but it was little more than a trading post with the natives. After the French and Indian War, the French were more or less expelled, and it wasn't until around 40 years later that George Washington sent Revolutionary War hero, General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, to build the first American fort. A young America was trying to expand west then, but the area was teeming with hostile Miami Indians who often killed American settlers. Mad Anthony was sent to eliminate the native threat. There was so much fighting in the area that you can still wander the fields and river banks in and around Fort Wayne and find stone arrowheads and axeheads as well as buttons from late 1700s US Army uniforms. Bonus fun fact: the city of Fort Wayne is older than the state of Indiana by about 20 years.
Fort Wayne is an up and coming city that is going places and has a very bright future ahead. It's downtown is really changing with a lot of building projects going on over there especially with its riverfront development which is now entering in its second phase of construction. Fort Wayne really got it going on over there so stay tuned.
I had been there multiple times, in a different season visiting friends. Beautiful city, it maybe boring for younger people. Teenagers But nice city if you want to raise families with out all the problems you’ll see in bigger cities, like LA,NEW YORK etc.
Very nice! That is great to know. I enjoyed exploring the city. I agree that I did not see many attractions there for younger people to enjoy (except the parks along the river), but it is great for people whom are interested in history.
Scottman, my girlfriend and I watched some of your videos while we prepared for a trip to the East coast and your other video on Southaven (Which we are returning to this weekend) your recommendations have never led us astray, and now you've made a video about her hometown! Yes, Fort Wayne is a good city, I've been living in the area ever since the day that I was born. As a native, we are welcoming to visitors, but if you're going to move here, please do not bring your politics with you, Chicago has been bringing in a lot problems.
