I’m currently reading The Enchanted Hour thanks to your recommendation in the video, and I am hooked! It’s absolutely mindblowing, the power of a simple story read aloud on a child’s brain.

Hello! I wanted to ask... I have been seeing the Usborne Book series... they have a series out that are on Classics like Jane Austen's books, etc... my youngest, 7y/o, is autistic and we are still slow with the reading and visualizing part... I was wondering if the Usborne Books would be good help for her but still be within the CM principles. Another question: I have an eldest daughter 9y/o who is doing well with the CM method altho she has ADHD so we struggle most with things getting boring if things are not "instant"... I fear that if I buy the Usborne Books for my youngest, the eldest she would also be reading it and I might never get her to pick up the actual novels anymore. Would love to hear thoughts about these two things. Thanks!

This is a great question and yes, please feel free to utilize whatever resources are working well for your family and for your children and their unique needs. My oldest is similar to your 9 year old daughter and while he does enjoy some of the more visual books and resources out there, as he has developed his reading skills he does still desire a fair amount of novels without pictures. This is something you would want to keep an eye on and encourage a healthy amount of both as needed. Sometimes the visual component can be helpful for those who want to use them as a complement to what they've already read in a novel without pictures as well so you could potentially encourage your 9 year old to read the novel first so she can create her own "pictures" in her head of what the characters are like before going to view the visuals in the other books.

what was the name of the picture book that Sonya mentioned that was a similar storyline to Blueberries for Sal? I couldn't hear very clearly. Thanks!

The Story of Little Babaji was the book Sonya mentioned after discussing Blueberries for Sal. In the future if you listen to one of our videos here and you'd like to know more or read through the transcript you can go to the blog page on our website and it will link the most recent videos. :) Here is the transcript on the blog for this one as well if you'd like more information too: simplycharlottemason.com/blog/how-to-spot-a-great-picture-book/
