As time passes, more and more used PlayStation games will have their missing artwork replaced with hand-made replicas. Reproductions of more expensive games will stand in for the real deal for those who want something on their shelf without spending a ton of money.
Jason shows you what to look for if all you want is the real deal.
Focused on NTSC / North American PlayStation games and hardware. Visit the site for variants, scans, and more!

That can change at any moment. Nothing is truly permanent when it comes to value and availability.

When I make custom artwork, I usually remake everything. Logos, text and touch up artwork otherwise it just looks like crap to me. Glad I got my stuff before both prices took off and repros started becoming common place.

Great video Jason. This is really helpful with identifying the real from the fake. Some of these techniques I didn't know before. 17:17 another really easy tell, my dude on the left in the repro is looking like a tomato lol.

2:50 Thing is, as long as they look official enough, a lot of people won´t question these. I mean, even most of my friends that do play video games probably don´t know that Thrill Kill is a cancelled game. I own a insanely well made PAL-Style Repro of a theoretical Baldur´s Gate PS1 Collector´s Edition. It was a project from a German Forum that does these kinda things from time to time (one that I sadly missed, but really want is a full on PC Big Box for Warcraft Adventures). It looks as official as it can get. Black Discs, all the Sony and Playstation Logos are in the right places, it got a Playstation Hologram Sticker, the whole thing even got official permission to use the Baldur´s Gate Logos and Artwork, got a cardboard slipcase because it also comes with a CD case for the Soundtrack (for legal reasons Soundtrack CD was a blank CD-R with the correct Artwork professionally printed on it, but the tracklisting was for the regular PC OST so you could burn it yourself), really a beautiful set. The only visual giveaway for it not being official is really that there is a short note above the Barcode on the Jewel Case that the game was not officially released or published. Because it looks so official, I had plenty of people that said "Oh, I didn´t know that released on PS1". And I have gotten the same comment about Diablo on PS1 too, so there is that.

I actually tried playing through the proto of BG1 years ago, and it always crashed at the same spot, despite the multiple discs. I should give that another go and see if I can get around the glitch.

i was at a local store where someone brought in a repro of fire emblem thracia for SNES that another store sold them for $30 because it didnt work and he didnt know what was wrong with it. Some stores just dont give a crap about this stuff as long as they make money. The funniest part was the cart was completely borked and the translation patch wasnt even working right. It wasnt showing english or japanese text it was just showing random characters and garbage data.

@@GameRaveTV I made a half-serious attempt a few years ago too. I stopped the run because at one point I had to learn the hard way that you really should save each and every time the game is about to load a new map. Lost a good bit of progress because it randomly didn´t load a town map when I wanted to leave a building again.

this should only affect gamestop as they start taking in more retro games for trade. You can spend $17 for a tomba 1 and 2 and trade them in to some clueless employee making minimum wage who doesnt GAF at all for $50 cash or more in credit. It also might affect more clueless sellers like half price books or scammy sellers who are just in it for the quick buck.

This video was fitting today. Saw a store at an event that had literally ALL of the big hit SNES titles there today for big money. Had to break it to him they where fakes before he sold any as he would have been kicked out of the event XD

Hopefully, it was an honest mistake and they weren't tricked by a seller. :O
