How To Spray 2K High Gloss Plasti Dip Rims

This video focuses on the 2K high gloss by Spraymax. This is a way to change the color of your rims and achieve a nice glossy
finish, Its for those of you who want to protect your rims from harsh road debris, refresh
your wheels or just simply want to change the color to try something different. The 2k high gloss adds the cherry on top by taking it to the next level with the gloss. You don't have to pay the high prices of powder coating. It is DIY but please take your time
and do not rush your work or you wont end up with the results you want.
What you need:
- Soap/Degreaser+Water 50/50 Spray Bottle
- Rubbing Alcohol+Water 50/50 Spray Bottle
- Spray Mask Respirator
- Tire Shine + Applicator Pad
- Removable Spray Aerosol
- 2K High Gloss Clear by Spraymax
- Patience & Time

I havent tried spraying only clear coat but i would suggest doing base coat of black with plasti dip or whatever you want and then use the 2k clear

This is perfect if you just want to paint your rims and don't care to peel it. The gloss will prevent the plasti dip from fading. I blacked out my rims and put glossifier on them but find they fade after a year so I sprayed them every year, kind of a pain.

I have to say I completed plasti dipping my factory rims and using the 2k gloss and they turned out awesome. You definitely need a mask when spraying this clear coat.

this 2k spray max is a wonderful product. I did my wheels , painted with some metallic rusteolum paint, and it looks amazing, nobody can't tell if its a powdercoat. Heating can is the key to get a better pressure and the paint self level better. like you said in the video, use a respirator. I use the 2k max in a well ventilated garage, with a brand new paint/asbestos respirator, quit the garage on drying time and my lungs were killing me the day after. probably because of my light beard. people : shave before painting!

Its peelable. Watch my video on peeling 2k gloss on my youtube channel. Ya it doesnt come off in one solid sheet but still removable, it took me 15-25 min each rim to peel completely

My guy I’ve been doing this since 2012 and people still ask “is that plastidip” and yes 2k clear and even 1k clear will give you a very glossy plastidipped wheel as long as you apply enough coats it’s peelable and it’s not difficult at all.

I used this method to dip my rims and they look great but are a pain in the ass to peel off! i tried peeling off the hub cap and it took me 10 minutes! i highly recommend everyone reading this to get dip dissolver if you are going to be using clear coat over plasti dip or you will spend hours peeling it off

It's been a year or two since I saw your video. I waited a very long time for the same 2k gloss to be available again. I've got my kit. Can't wait to try it. And I cannot see what is the problem in Fonzi's video saying it is not peelable (even as talentuous and professionnal he might be) since it is considering your other video and even others available on the net. Yes its peelable but some little pieces might be hard to get too so you use a pressure washer to remove those

last year with help of this video i dipped my rims but i skipped the 2k glossy finish for some reason which i donno why. it became so dirty and i couldnt remove break dust and other dirts from the tires even though i used everthing, for example rim cleaning agent etc. this year i removed all the plastidip and paint again, also watched this video over and over again, before i start. Now looks awesome and hope easy to clean, here in finland 2 season tires, dipped tires are summer tires and i didnt install them yet, let see, thanks for the gread instrucion video,

Phillip Davis 1 can per wheel, about 8 coats a wheel and only one can of 2k gloss with 1-2 coats per wheel depending on your preference.

Most print shops can cut out decals for you and yes lots of different colours. I use a silhouette cameo to cut my decals

Sorry 2 questions 1st why mount the tires if your spraying the wheel? And 2 what’s the point of applying tire shine to the tires before spraying ?

Shawn Ferrell we mounted the tires first because if we sprayed the rim and mounted the tire after using the tire machine, it might damage the liquid wrap so its best to put the tires on first and then spray the rims. The tire shine is applied to the side wall of the tire because it makes it easier to remove the dip off the tires after we have finished spraying all of our coats.

Can you elaborate on how hard this is to remove? I want today to be do my Maserati rims, but scared it will be very difficult to remove. Others claim on Amazon that it will make removing almost impossible

Jon Korn Hey with a removable coating as the base and with the right amount of coats (minimum 8) you will be able to remove it in the future. Their may be minor spots that wont peel -as good but you could always use a pressure washer to remove the excess or rub it off with a microfibre towel but most of it will come off with no effort.

how do you keep the tire shop from damaging the rim when putting on new tires? I pained mine and used 2k clear but the first time I had new tire put on the tire shop scuffed up the rims and pealed off the paint and clear in a few spots

You need to go to a shop with a touchless tire machine or tell them to be very careful and maybe put a cloth around the lip of the wheel so it doesn’t get scuffed up

@@Roger-ob2ft You can expect this to last a very long time. The 2K spray will harden the plasti dip. You would be a fool to think you can peel this off like plasti dip.

I should have worded it better in the video. It still is removable obviously not like Plasti Dip. Its going to be tougher to remove. I did this to showcase a high gloss finish because the glossifer is not that glossy and fades pretty quick. some people dont have the skill and money to afford/spray AutoFlex plus its not available in Canada for me. It is harder to peel but very durable, slick to the touch, doesn’t attract brake dust as much and very easy to clean. I am looking forward to high gloss aerosols from Dipyourcar which provides easier removal which Fonzie states should be released soon!

Glad I saw this, was going to use glossifier but that stuff is sticky/tacky. Looks like you’re about 2” away from the wheels when spraying the plasti dip. Is that accurate?

@JustinRaney @JustinRaney you can but you cant get super close to the surface, just keep a fair distance when using the pressure washer. They held up great for 2 years before the vehicle was sold. The gloss plasti dip isnt that glossy compared to the 2k and this is alot more durable

Thanks very much. This was super helpful, as I have a new Bosch dishwasher in stainless... But all my other kitchen apliances are black. So until I switch out more appliances for stainless, I'm going to take my dishwasher to gloss black with this method. Perfect. I may make a video to detail how it goes.

You can do it on the vehicle just make sure you put a bag around the caliper and brakes area. No 2k wont make it hard to remove if u go over the lug nuts

When you pull Plasti Dip off the tires it is all one piece covering wheels and tire surface so what stops the peeling from pulling up the dip from the wheels?

The tire and lip of the rim have a space between them so the plasti dip cuts its self off

My rims have a few scuff marks. 🤦🤦 Is there anything I need to do to them before they're dipped? I was told I should sand that area down.

Bianca Alexander hey! You dont need to do any sanding it should cover up the scuff marks if they are light but if they are deep then they will show underneath the dip. You can always sand it down smooth it out first before you dip the rims

Have u peeled it with the 2k on the plasti dip b4??? I've seen what an enamel clear coat over plasti dip can do when trying "peel it"... comes off in chips....

neillgarcia5 hey! Yes i have peeled a set of rims it doesn’t come off in one sheet but comes off in medium sized pieces. As long as you apply 8-10 coats it should peel off might take abit but it still peels doing no damage to the rims

Well ehab I've been undesided for past month wat the paint my wheels with was going to use plasti dip glossy but seen it & it's just not realy glossy then saw vid on luxury metal but now after seeing this & all the benefits of the 2k I'm going with this method great vid 👍

It will last anywhere from 3-5 years with proper cleaning once a week. Gloss stays glossy as long as it’s maintained and not neglected

Its best to take the wheels off but if you cant then make sure u put a bag behind the wheel to mask off the brake components

So I know video is old but what about if you spray paint over plastic dip and then use 2k clear will it still be peel off as if it was just plasti dip ?? Btw wheels look good

How does the coating react to Cleaning & automatic Car washing? Also, Will I need to redo the Rims after changing a tire(s) & what precautions need to be taken when changing the tires on a painted rim? Thanks.

Cleaning and car washes are fine on the wheel, you just clean it with degreaser and water then you can dry it after if you like. When changing tires, they may damage the coating but can be easily touched up by thinning out the area and respraying. Touch less tire machine will work best when changing tires on a painted wheel
