I've been using this video as a reference for years (I re-watch most every time I sandwich a quilt), and I've forwarded it to countless others, including sharing it with my guild. Everyone is amazed at how easy it makes things....no more rolling with noodles or 2x4's, or taping to the floor! Just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing!

This is the best quilt basting video on RU-vid. I just finished basting a 96" x 96" quilt on a 30" x 60" table, using this technique. Wow! So much easier than anything else I have tried. I used Elmer's washable glue instead of spray (less mess) and it worked fine. Thank you!

Did you mix the glue with anything ? If so what ? Did you spray it on? And did it spray ok ? I tried a homemade spray and it didn’t work and was a disaster. Thank you in advance for your advice and answers.

No sound issues for me, but wondering about inhaling all that spray. I have used this method for pin basting, will now try it for spray basting as I hate the pins. One suggestion that has worked for me to center the quilt is to fold it into quarters and start in the middle of the corner fold, going out from the center of the quilt. I appreciate you doing this tutorial with a large quilt, so many RU-vids illustrate using a ridiculously small quilt.

Wow! Such a great demo of how to baste a large quilt. I am making a 10.4in almost square Hawiian and was stressing about trying to baste it in my small house. I ‘borrowed’ a friends floor to pin the pattern on to the top fabric. We needed to move furniture even in her large house. It will take me some time to finish the top, i hand sew it all but when i need to baste i now know exactly how to do that on my huge quilt. Many any thanks.

Hi Hunter’s Design🙂. Thank you so much for this video! I am working on my very first quilt...a baby quilt with a cuddle cloth backing for one of my grandsons...and have been struggling😠 I tried a new fangled powder adhesive and couldn’t get it to work for the life of me. Then tried starch...again didn’t work. Then tried clamping and pinning, and the puckers on the back almost put me around the bend. I am going to check out your other spray basting video and then give it a try...fingers crossed 🤞🏻 Also, I am watching you on my iPad with earbuds with my volume at half and can hear you perfectly😊👍🏻

Thank you (found you via Debby Brown) - I'm pretty new to finishing larger quilts and always have had fabric bunching problems with the pins. Of course I blame my machine!!! But I gave up trying with the glue because I was never able to completely get the wrinkles out - I was starting in the wrong place it seems. Plus I love the idea of bulldog clips - the "clamps" I've been able to get are really for holding rolled up quilts while in the machine - other clamps are wayyy to strong and I need two hands to squeeze them open. So you've given me hope and enthusiasm to have another go. :D
@koojiebear8464
@koojiebear8464 6 лет назад
I agree - I'm not keen on rolling the quilt - I prefer squishing - it's easier to shift on the other side of the machine too and doesn't concentrate the weight in one place. Now I need to think of another use for those lightweight clamps! Thank you :D

I do pretty much the same, but I could use those yellow clips you showed first. I usually use VERy tacky tape to hold it down, then frequently get worn out about half way thru the process, sometimes resulting in less-than-perfect results on the back. I'm going to look for those quilt clips that will fit on my table. (Binder clips won't work for me.) Thank you.

I've never tackled a t-shirt quilt. Most of the people I know who have stabilize the t-shirt blocks in the quilt before it goes together, using something like Pello Shapeflex. I image that would keep out the wrinkles!

Hi, I'm still watching - about 9 minutes in, it looked as if the top of the quilt is even with the batting - I was told to always leave at least 4 inches all the way round - did I miss something? When you were laying out the backing, it didn't look like that had much overhang either. Haven't seen the end yet (and re the other comments, I've had no problem with the sound).
@HuntersDesignStudio
@HuntersDesignStudio 6 лет назад
I'm so sorry that I haven't replied sooner! The 4'' all around is required for you to take a quilt to a long-armer. When you quilt it yourself, you can have as little as an inch - although it will be far more fussy to baste with that little leeway.

FYI never turn the sound up , because then you can't turn it up again, just talk louder and put it closer to you. Computer geek here. Just like the cassette if you turn the volume up you can never turn it up again. Just talk louder and by the way I just watched and understood, so its all good. FORGOT MAKE SURE THE CLIPS ARE BIG ENOUGH TO CLAMP TO THE TABLE, IF THERE IS A LIP THE LARGE 2 INCH BINDER CLIPS WILL NOT WORK. MIGHT GO TO PICNIC TABLE ONES. CHEAP 20 AT AMAZON FOR AROUND 6.99

I wish I had seen this before I tried basting my queen quilt via duct tape and my floor and nearly ruined my quilt!

The ODIF 505 spray is probably the least smelly of the bunch, but you spray inside you need to ventilate well. Normally I would never spray a quilt this big (for this long) inside without the windows open... in this can I was trying to keep extraneous sound down. Most of the time I spray on my patio. You could also benefit from wearing a mask :-)

I couldn't hear you. Just the clips popping when you threw them on table.

Sound is all the way up for me and I'm sure it is for people that are having trouble hearing it. I will quit watching as not fun when you can't hear it.

What you can say is--You still have a problem. There are too many "WE's" that can't hear it. I'll just quit trying and I'm sure there are some others that are doing the same, you just don't know it. Good Luck. Thanks for trying to help.

Perhaps the mic is in the recording device with is several feet away from her so the audio is weak.

The audio is weak because the mic is too far from the source ie. your mouth. Just saying.

Only have to max out your sound levels and use headphones - it's fine.

Nope. This is free content so I'm not willing to burn the time for a repeat. Many people are have zero issues hearing it, so I recommend you troubleshoot YOUR computer/device. There is a volume control for both RU-vid AND for your device.... you probably haven't turned one of them up.
