Taking the tape off after a rattle can job is one of my favorite parts. The SBR came out looking great! And the great thing about rattle can paint is that if you wanna change it, a couple hours with rags and mineral spirits brings you back to "0"! I really like that stock and kinda want one for the SBR I'm waiting for a stamp on, looks even more solid in your videos, great job!!

Looks great! it's always seemed to me that the rattle can controversy revolves around the durability and the application. Personally I think it has its place. Certain firearms would be better off with a cerakote or such, but if it's a regular use, going to get scratched up gun, I'd rather rattle can it and be able to touch it up when and how I want then spend the money on a more expensive finish that will still wear and can scratch.
Looks good man. What I do when painting camo, and this is personal preference, is hijack my wife's cricket and cut my own male stencils. I leave them on and layer the paint over them. Its pretty useful for doing camo patterns like multicam.
1:40 lower isn't anodized, but it is aluminum? Aluminum oxide, while bland in color, is an extremely hard coating that is very protective. Not sure if that needed to be said but a lot of people think "aluminum therefore soft."
I think this is one of those jobs you can fuck up and it would be just fine.. all you'd need to do is spray another light coat on top of your fuck-ups and start over. Just make sure everything's taped over and covered up that should be.
Fun video! This will get a lot of views... Btw, John, I Just got a CNC plasma table, will be adding CNC Mill and Lathe down the road, so have started to play around with F360. Was thinking of not using the CAD/CAM software that came with the table and use F360 since i would likely use that for the Mill/Lathe. I think you mentioned a one day intro class to F360, do you have a link to where I can register for that?

LMAO Actually this is the method both hunters and Special Operations have done it for decades until all the new so called "better" firearm specific paints were invented. Of those only one stands out. KG Gun Kote 2300/2400 is the clear cut winner. It was developed and used by the United States Navy SEALs. The others are only marginally better of any to this rattle can method. Cerakote being the most overrated of them all. I'm sure this along with Brownells Aluma Hyde 2 are better. With this method you can clean the whole thing off and either change/start over or put it back to factory. There is a plus side to that. Yours looks great and it's always the modest guys who do the best work and know the most.
Wonder if you can do this with plasti dip paint, i want to paint my lower a diffrent color along with the mags to differentiate caliber (6.8spc) Reason for asking is with plasti dip you can peel it off to go stock

Great build but the finish is not a place to go cheap. Cerakote with an airbrush would have been around $60-$80 and been more appropriate for that awesome rifle.
