Straight lines and especially squared up anything is my arch nemesis. I used your tutorial for my throw sized quilts. Even though I squared the corners and made "straight" lines my quilts are definitely not square. No one will doubt that my quilts are hand-made but they will do the job of keeping someone warm.
You are adorable. I have really enjoyed you. I will soon be 85 and I go whole hog Into everything I do whether it be ceramics, knitting, sewing, reading or quilting! I have finally admitted that I am somewhat OCD! I had an extremely long date with Jack today...completely ripping off the binding of my latest project. You are too young to have arthritis but I am blessed with same and it makes anything I do with my hands a painful problem! I have watched your entire 101 series and really enjoyed you. Just a note to encourage you on your quilting journey! Take care. Joy Carter.
Aww thank you so much, Joy! 💖💖I really appreciate your encouragement! And so awesome to meet another multipassionate quilter! 🤓 I like to dabble and try new crafts too!
Yes, yes yes, save those batting scraps! I really enjoy sewing them together, it's rather relaxing! Then, it's available for pin cushions, bibs, mug rugs, quilted stockings at Christmastime, etc. etc. etc.!
Thank you Miriam...i have struggled for literally YEARS to square my quilts! I will be trying your method tomorrow because I finished quilting my latest quilt today! How auspicious is that!!! Thank you so much for your really clear instructions!❤ I hope your furry family member Penelope makes a full recovery.
Oh poor little Penelope-glad she's improving. Some people like to complicate things. I love that you do the exact opposite. Thank you for another great tutorial.
Thanks for the great explanation. I have always struggled with doing this also. Can I ask how long it took for you to FMQ this quilt top? You did a great job!
Penelope is so cute! I’m glad she’s doing better. I’m a new subscriber. I enjoy your videos and I’m loving that MSQC discount link! 😅 Keep up the great work, Miriam.
You need to get the cutter piller clamp. It is great because you can clamp it down to the ruler and you don’t have to use your small muscles like your fingertips. You use your triceps or biceps. I love mine. Also, sorry about the fur baby. I have a lot of dogs. I won’t tell you how many. But I was in a car accident and had brain surgery. I have been home bound for a long time. My fur babies are truly family. I would be so lonely without them. Prayers.
I will check into that, thank you! And thank you for the prayers! Penelope is doing much better now. So sorry you were in an accident, but I'm so glad you have your fur babies to keep you company! You're 100% right, they ARE family!
Hi, thank you for the very detailed instructions! I have just started quilting and am doing my first few as whole cloth quilts . Since there are really no "squares" to be a neginning guide, how can I make sure that when I do the first corner, I've placed the ruler "level?" I've watched another tutorial where a t-square was used, and that helps. I'd love to hear what your suggestion would be! Thank you for your expertise! Hope Penelope is back to complete health!
Great video on squaring up a quilt. You mentioned to also square up your blocks before sewing your rows together. Did I miss how to square up a quilt block in your piecing video#4. Do you have video on how to square up different quilt block sizes? Thank you😊
@@angelar1500 hmmm 🤔 if it was me, I would fold the quilt top into quarters and then trim the raw edges to make 90 degree corners. I hope that makes sense!
I thought when the longarmer trimmed it, it was "squaring" it so I have not done this in 2 years! OMG! ( I did do it on the ones I quilt myself) oopsie!
@@SewWhittle I’m guessing it depends on the longarmer, but I really don’t know. BUT as you can see in this video, it’s actually pretty easy to do for yourself! 👏🏻👏🏻
Mine does not ( I don't have her do binding) and I didn't realize for 2 years until she had a blog post about it. Lucky my quilts still turned out fine but I was was like oopsie! Live and learn!
Hello! I actually covered thread in the first video of this Quilting Basic Series! You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A6V80ZLITrI.html
Don't you find it necessary to measure the top and the bottom to see if they are the same width?. I'm at this stage with my quilt and it is a problem. It seems I should fold it to see if it is the same width top and bottom.
You can certainly measure and adjust, but I just want to stress that having it PERFECT isn’t a huge deal (unless you are entering the quilt into some kind of competition.) when you gift a quilt, the receiver isn’t going to bring out the measuring tape and make sure the edges are the same length. If you square up your blocks when you are making the quilt top, your finished quilt should be “pretty much” square. I hope that makes sense!
@@StitchObsessed - Thank you for taking the stress off.. Actually I am finishing this project for someone else. I was going to discard it but this person seems to love it, so I will finish it.
I have coats &clark machine quilting 300yds/v274 m please can you tell me weight . I have been using it since you talk about with no issues, I was using Gutermann120 1100yds100%polyester recommended by The Quilt Shop in my area. Weight I am confused.
