I worked on a job once where a guy dropped his glasses into slack water on a river, downstream from a barge of gravel that was getting unloaded. The crane operator motored over to the spot, gently dropped his clamshell bucket into the river and fished out the eye glasses on the first try. I was forever in awe of his skills after that. Cheers! So cool seeing two of my favorite channels in one setting. I'm a recent grad in water resources and love both of these channels.

No lie! I was picturing children of the future home owners climbing on that rock wall and how they scramble upon seeing their first snake.

I am sure this system has a surcharge problem; the top of this wall is overloaded. Does his "soil engineer" have all his pistons firing? Plus the overloading of the toe of the footer at the corner detail with those boulders. That corner detail 9:36 also DIRECTS water to the underside of the footer; the best way to cause that footer to fail is to wash out the soil it sits on! Gator grid fabric or similar products should have been specified for this job and not just soil compaction. This engineer makes me think of the engineers that build on the hills of California and then the owners are surprised when their homes slide off the slope they were built on.

@@manorin , thank you for the redirect... someone else also wrote me on the side, to look for that video... I wanted to cut my loses on critiquing his work... Basically, he is doing a great job of sharing some information in his videos and I do not want people to "throw the baby out with the bath water"... Besides, he has a more manly microphone than I have... lol --- I really have to spend time and make my audio separate from my videos... Just do not have the time to spend editing... (my mac and Final Cut Pro are the slowest rendering software?)... Takes about 10 hours to render a ''canon camera video to an Apple to a RU-vid production)... Okay, back to the subject, I do find a few mistakes he makes in each video and he does them without stating this can be wrong or I am experimenting... He presents as this is the way it is done and you can do it this way also... Another example is him using two tape measures on a wall which he joins and states he is within 1/4 to half inch... At the distances he was at, NO WAY because he had an elevation change that he did not account for, the elevation change was two fold, one was the heightS of the anchor points of EACH one of his tape measures and the point where he joined them (at his location)... This was compounded by his belief that the tape measure(s) would not stretch, and that he had the ability to keep all these things level and touch each other (that was a defect there)... I use a professional equipment and an ametuer builder would use his method(s)... or a builder that will NOT invest in himself by purchasing professional equipment... With all that said, the tapes can be used buy with great doubt... In conclusion I appreciate the entertainment and would welcome the chance to educate him on his errors; so the public can get a more quality understanding of what is going on... This means I would support his content and not ''attack'' it (baby and the bathwater)... I often do experiments in construction but they are always on my personal jobs which I get to monitor and IF they fail, they go right to the trash can! (Right now, I am experimenting on a floor leveler -- based on fiber content, it is so amazing at this time... I have it on an exterior concrete (very stable base ---- and another on a wooden floor with a small amount of deflection (not disclosing yet)... which, in BOTH cases are NOT showing any surface cracks)... So far so good... Next summer, I will present the findings of these pretty awesome projects, if the wooden floor fails it will NOT even be suggested... The concrete I do NOT expect any failure and we should see a video of that then and with my recommendations... I know home owners and contractors are on a budget and want to break some rules... I am just trying to make that budget person find a product that will save them the dollars and give them an idiot proof product...

So what day in February?. My 60th was one the 4th. When I first saw my first video of you, as someone who teaches the younger ones coming up in the fire service, I knew this was going to be a very enjoyable and educating channel. You have succeeded at both. Your family is very lucky. And the viewers are lucky to see someone who is willing to "share" their knowledge with someone they may never meet. Knowledge is power, sharing knowledge is powerful and talks about the man. Good job, Am looking forward to a educating experience this spring and summer.

@ J L Eidsness He has said before that he makes judgment calls about his own safety and he shouldn't be an example of safety because he does what he feels comfortable doing. Bottom line is that he's the property owner and general contractor on site, so if he so-chooses to potentially 'risk his life', it's his call on his site. Yes, I personally probably wouldn't go without a bump cap, but I also have a tendency to bump my head on stuff. He's a grown man running his site the way he sees fit. I do SERIOUSLY applaud his decision to only risk his life instead of asking ( or FAR worse, telling) someone else to, it shows moral character, which seems to be at a premium these days. Keep up the great work Scott!!!!

they're just called heavy equipment operators, technically speaking he would be a heavy equipment operator operating a hydraulic excavator, though hydraulic excavators are generally just referred to as excavators these days, since i don't think there are many steam excavators left :P

One of the things he says in an earlier video is that concrete always cracks. It's ok and safe because the structural integrity is maintained internally. In other words, that crack is very small and in a place that isn't structural, so it's ok.

ok thanks! I remember him saying the cracks would happen, I just didn't expect it so soon, and before the house was built. Good to know!

Even more so, if the concrete doesn't crack the rebar doesn't do any work.

I think its just a surface crack,,,, and no concrete doesnt always crack i have basement foundations that i poured 20 years ago that dont have a single crack in them, but it does happen.

Why would you have a hard time imagining a profit? House flippers make a profit buying houses and reselling higher. The cost of building a house isn't higher than buying a new house, otherwise companies would never build them since they'd get nothing out of it.

I'm aware of how profitable house flipping can be. My comment was regarding building a house from the ground up.

It's not always profitable to build new or remodel. Decisions have to be made. There is risk. Careful consideration is required. The design budget always changes too.
