The “Steps” are the following: 1: Figure out why people would read your blog 2:Brainstorm Blog Post ideas 3: Start your blog/ Set Up 4: Start Blogging 5: Drive Traffic- Be proactive about advertising your blog. 6: Engage your audience 7: The making money part: How can you add MORE value? 8: Show your readers how to get what they want. This video was very long and definitely could have been made in 8-10 minutes. I’ll still give a thumbs up but I would suggest being more succinct in the future. For an “informative” video it came off as rambling. I only finished the video just so I could type the steps for others.
To step 6: I also would see analytics of your social media. I realized that I love Instagram, my readers love Facebook. I started adding more to Facebook and boom: more engament. Know your customer basically ;) Loved the video!
Last year I did a blog calendar for all of 2018 with no host page or name or anything. It literally just came to me one day. And ever since then I’ve been getting signs to just GO FOR IT! Thank you for this video because it was so informational & it just affirmed that I should just go for it!

Thank you for the consistency, Gillian! You may have inspired me to start a YT soon, as I am really self conscious about being on camera, especially because of all the curated content everywhere. You have shown us that you can have a super successful channel without all the fancy background, templates, etc, just with quality content. Thank you for your efforts daily, my aim is to start a blog and YT and be able to monetize it in the next 6 months (I am aiming at a consistent cash flow of around $800 on average monthly). Do you think that’s possible, provided I implement the correct strategies right away? PS what blind old bat pressed the dislike on this video??
Mariya Dikova I used to be a bit nervous too! But now it’s so much fun because you get to share about things you love and help people along the way! One thing that I’ve heard which can really help is to just record yourself on camera a few times, watch it and see where you can improve. Do that a few times until you get comfortable. You don’t even have to post those videos if you don’t want but it does get easier pretty quickly! You should definitely go for it! 💛

Hello, I just wanted to say this is the BEST video I have seen so far about starting a blog. Honestly, I have watched a bunch of videos but this one is the best! I love the list and steps, it helps me take practical action!
This video is priceless! I started a blog in like 2012 and like many who start blogs I gave up way too soon. I want to give blogging another try. I'm relaunching my RU-vid channel soon so that's going to be my focus. But I'm still going to start back blogging.

I just can't figure out the right path to get a great blog site up from a technical standpoint! So confusing! I can't do WordPress and don't have tons of money I wish you would do a video on this I am sure other people struggle with this! Right now I'm using Blogger. I've been blogging for 6 years and a half and just one week ago I started to make it a professional blog. In a long run, probably I will change to WordPress because of their functionalities but I will change to a paid plan. Good to know that Wordpress is that good. Keep up with the good content :)
Good for you ! I started blogging in 2009. Eventually I started a self hosted website, however, I did not dedicate time into it. Then I started another self hosted website in 2011 using Solo Build It (formerly Site Build It). Then I started using Wordpress and that was a challenge for me because I had to learn a lot about design and formatting. Then that went by the wayside. Then I started another website in 2017 and I am sticking to it. I has been a year and a half since I have been working on the website. I hope all goes well with your site!

Love this video. I so appreciate your willingness to share what you've learned. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make a video about exactly how to start a blog from ground ZERO. By ZERO, I mean leaving jargon (not that you jargonize much) at the door. I have attempted to learn how to use Face Book, Twitter, Instagram, and others, only to find the material so full of jargon and acronyms that none of it made sense to me. I value my time very much and, like you not wanting to spend forever and a day learning how to do things on the MAC, I don't want to have to research every other word coming from an instructor's mouth. I trust you, Gillian, above all others I've seen, to be able to do this. Again, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make the "create-a-blog how to" video.
Narrow down your topics and just start writing. Keep in mind people read blogs for self help , so if you’re doing something anonymous AND diary style , you’ll want to make sure you direct things you learned or how the experience relates to others to keep an audience attracted .. ways to make money with this could be using affiliate companies that sell self help or therapy items .. you can include links for candles diaries self help books etc etc . Idk if I’d ever do much with emails. I for one HATE getting a crap ton of emails. I would just use other ways to alert people of a new post. Like Instagram and Pinterest. As a reader I would appreciate that more. Emails are terrible. I always unsubscribe and spam them. It’s super annoying.

Cool video, how do we get to do the affiliate marketing? How do we get a referral link? I know thats what I’m trying to do for Lyft and Chase because they sent me referral codes for being a customer/driver. How else do we get other ones?

Having a coach can be really helpful, but it's certainly not necessary. It's great to have someone keep you accountable to reach your goals, and someone who's experienced who you can get advice from. :) I'd say: if you already know what you need to do next, and you aren't "stuck" then wait to hire a coach. At some point, if you do get stuck, or aren't sure how to grow, or aren't reaching your goals, THEN reach out and find someone to support you. Hope that helps!
