On this video, you will see how we start a 72 volt locomotive with 2000 HP - 1450 KW with our jump starter Propulstation 72V.
The batteries of the train were completely discharged, so the booster had to start almost alone.
The temperature on that day was -5°C

What a great product demo! It's hard to believe a little cart could start such a huge engine, with dead batteries, in extremely cold weather. If I ever own a railroad (ha, ha!), I'm buying one of these! :)

To me it looks like that engine was warm, having had to start class 66 locos with EMD engines in them that were cold, they take some motoring over before they even want to start!!!

Can tell that was an emd. It started virtually straight away with hardly any smoke. If that was a Brit loco, starters churning for 5 minutes, clag for 20 minutes and still smoking heavily on pull off.

Damicske even for deep cycle batterys this low voltage is bad!, for 72 volts be ing 22 volts is verry lo, then giving it the ful power of the alternator will damage the cels even more!, this battery bank is not threathed nice.

The WR, so called, Western ‘Hydraulics’ were based on those DB locomotives. The Hydraulic transmissions varied, though. Some had a mechanical gearbox, and a very clever fluid flywheel and claw clutch, and others had a multiple torque-converter gear box. The locomotives (apart from the HyMeks) had twin engines, and, together with the twin-engined Deltics, were the lightest locomotives -best power to weight ratio- in the country. Arguably, direct foreign-runners of class 43 HSTs Personally, I still think the EE-Napier Deltics were the best diesel locomotives the world has ever seen. And will ever see. So there. A4s and Unrebuilt Bulleid Pacifics also superior to LMS/BR rubbish. Apart from 9F.

When 6 batteries gives you 24V instead of 72 it's more likely that (one of) the battery is totally dead. Not only dischaged.

CreRay Well too bad SNCB/NMBS isn't using them at high capacity. They're quite old and probably some of their original routes had already been electrified, that means diesel traction is dismissed. But I think they can use these GM's for rescue trains or in infrastructure work trains.

It is. Nowadays, we still use the Class 55 in Belgium to haul track maintenance trains. These locos were built in 1961/1962 and are the oldest remaining diesel locomotives on the Belgian rail network in 2017. And they still sound impressive! I'm still able to capture them on video sometimes

So... "thank's for watching"? What thing belongs to a thank? Or is it "thank is for watching" (whatever that's supposed to mean)?

Steve Young: 1. I did not criticize anything. I simply asked 3 *questions*. 2. Even if he did I *had* decided to help him with my language, why should I have to know his language if he had already chosen on his own to learn my language? 3. Since when would you know if he was Dutch? Apparently you don't have a clue, because the other part of his description is not in Dutch, but *French*. That shows how much you don't know. 4. So when your brain has developed enough to know that he wasn't even speaking Dutch, then *maybe* you can complain (but even due to #1, your complaint would still not be valid).
@HelloKittyFanMan.
@HelloKittyFanMan. 9 лет назад
Steve Young: 1. Corrected, thanks. 2. My attitude was not "bad," because: a. asking questions isn't about having a bad atttitude, and b. it really is *helping*, not just "helping," and there's nothing wrong with that. 3. What should being in person or not have to do with anything? 4. You don't know how many languages the guy writes/speaks/just understands. 5. What difference should how many languages I know make? If I know one, then I can ask questions about someone else's use of one. Or I can even help them with it. If I know 2, then I can ask or help with 2. If 3, then 3, and so on. So what?
@HelloKittyFanMan.
@HelloKittyFanMan. 9 лет назад
Because, Steve Young (obviously not the well-respected athlete with that name), 1. maybe the person *does* know what they were thinking might "belong to a thank," according to her, or him in this case. I don't assume I know what goes on in the person's head, and I wanted to give Ceteor The boost Maker Ceteor The Boost Maker a chance to tell me what he was thinking. And *if* that question was one that they didn't know the answer to, then maybe the *reason* they didn't was that it triggered a "Hmm, what was I thinking" response, and instead of giving a direct answer, the guy would say "Oh, I see; I just meant 'thanks'," thus giving him the benefit of being *helped* without actually being corrected by someone outside. But if he has an answer to the question, then that will solve some curiosity for me by letting me see what he has to day Why do *you* care, anyway? 2. What difference should being in person cause me? Wouldn't I have just as much of "the balls" to call you, in person, the ass that you are, as I would right here (which isn't even anonymous for everybody)? 3. You sound as if you're assuming that most people in Belgium, if not everyone, understand/speak/write in a certain number of languages. Why *would* you know how many languages this stranger or many others there understand/speak/write? 4. It doesn't because just because a person only knows one language well doesn't mean they've being "narrow-minded." Why do *you* care, anyway?
@HelloKittyFanMan.
@HelloKittyFanMan. 9 лет назад
Steve Young, do you realize that I'm actually *not* "ranting," but just responding to your comments and *questions* that *you did ask*? No, apparently not. Do you realize that I did not give you "personal abuse"? No, apparently not. Do you realize that the more you falsely accuse people of stuff the more foolish you look than you already were? Nope, apparently not. Do you realize that you're being a hypocrite by resorting to the very things that you *thought* I was doing and looked down upon (not sustaining logical argument, etc.)? Nope, I see that you don't Ya might look into fixing all those problems.... Start with this 2nd Friday the 13th in a row.

Uhuhhh, Beatmania.co.nz.... I'm actually not pretending, though. Actually, *you* are one of the complete idiots; not me. And what supposed "point of superiority" do you figure you have, especially in the grammar/word usage/punctuation area, especially even though *you* made a related error yourself ("eachother" isn't a word)? And what supposed related error(s) did you think you were so smart to believe that I could've made, huh?

I don't understand the "1450Kwa". What is a Kwa? 2000HP are 1492KW. Under 72 volts, it will require 20,722Ka. But what is a Kwa?
@Pirmy76
@Pirmy76 7 лет назад
I think they ment KWatt. Also the 1450KW is the power of the locomotive engine.. not the power needed to start it. Crank start has a consumption of 1224A (88KW) but then it falls to 700A (50KW).. until the starting is still in progress.

Got wire there! Better simply use an ELECTRIC loco and be done with it! (Send that diesel generator set to me for my museum collection -- I run it on hydrogen, the ONLY known element that emits only potable drinking water from its 'exhaust)'!... DeserT BoB: Don;t need any more 'railroad' diesels! raliWAYS need only ELECTRIC locos in the 21 st century and beyond! Diesel is passé and the resulting CO2 emmissions have been proven to be rather damaging to our biosphere that we depend on for very life on this finite planet -- ever heard of Climate Change and Global Warming? (Hint-hint-hint)! NO DIESEL for railways -- PERIOD! Electric ONLY (from responsible means of producing that electricity).
@squach6239
@squach6239 8 лет назад
well dipshit the CO2 emissions from producing the amount of electricity to power all of America's railroads would be staggering! plus the exposed canternary electric lines would endanger birds and other wildlife! I wish you tree hugger fucks would do some actual research into this shit before you start beating your gums!

@MrWomojo
@MrWomojo 7 лет назад
That's nonsense. Running passenger- and freight trains on diesel still produces less emissions than all goods and passengers on individual vehicles. if a railway line is not fully occupied, electrification often makes no sense. so even if you run an old diesel locomotive, you're still more environmentally friendly than with anything on the road. Sure, electric trains are better. ecologically and economically. But just not everywhere. Plus: you're wrong about firing a combustion engine on hydrogen: It produces NOT only water. You forgot about substances in the air. So it also produces toxic nitrogen oxides. You can only avoid this by running on fuel cells or use urea -not so well, either. You're so blinded by your good intentions, so you don't think your stories through. Don't think you have the answers to all questions out of the blue, just because you think you have the "right" attitude.
@renefrijhoff2484
@renefrijhoff2484 3 года назад
Yeah, not gonna work. 1st. Industrial lines are too expensive to electrify and 2nd. auto cars can't be unloaded if there's an electrified overhead wire.
