My sister and I just made our first raised bed last week out of pallets! Got them for free and took a lot of elbow grease, but it was so worth it! Looks great and I plan on adding more to my garden next year at my new place!!

If you turn the pallets over, you can still use flower boxes to plant plants in the pallet supports. Sorry for my bad english and thanks for your nice channel.

In my experience anything can be a pot for growing!!! I love my garden (I only just found your channel; I love that you show how to videos; prioritising sustainability, environmental impact, creating habitats for the multitude of critters & with minimum waste!!!! Your a 10/10!!!! I’ve found excellent stuff on the side of the road repurposed old tomato creates (they make brilliant planters) as it comes with drainage premade and very sturdy!!! I’ve used old bricks (freebies from homes getting rid of them) to build raised garden beds, sources companies that recycle plastic and recreate it into, compost bins, worm farms, indoor plant pots; since having my garden (a while now) the highlight of my day is to be outside (even if it’s weeding) surrounded by the bees, wasps dragonfly’s, birds, frogs, lizards; it’s a joy all gardeners feel I’m sure!!!! Happy Gardening ALL!!! 😊😊😊

I never use a hand trowel for weeding. I always use a hooked patio knife. You can slice through the soil, life up weeds, hoe and reach into narrow gaps, all in one without missing a beat. I can’t do without it. A good pair of secateurs is a great investment. Don’t go for the cheap ones with the spring in the middle. They fill up with dirt and break easily. Go for the ratchet type. They are much less strain on your hands and you can cut thicker stems without force. I recommend Jardin de France secateurs. They are not cheap but they are really good quality. The best I’ve ever used. And I’ve tried a lot of different makes.

Fascinating take on urban gardening - I'm starting a new garden from scratch on open rural land, a completely different process. Find a spot by a wide tree, not too far from the house nor too close, compost pile complete. No raised beds, but I have to hack through waist-high grass to clear plots. And my "essential" tools include a hoe, and a large bucket or wheelbarrow for material transportation, but I'm not worried about gloves or watering cans or a little trowel. It's interesting how techniques vary from one setting to another.

Really enjoyed this step-by-step guide format, keep up the great work! Slightly off-topic, but: A) it would be nice to see your approach with starter seeds, germination process (darkness vs. light, and for how long), sprouting and when to transplant. B) In your recycled bottles "walls", are you selective in choosing which plants you put at the top vs. closer to the last bottom row? (and what would be the characteristics you're looking for to sort them vertically)

Is there a video discussing how to deal with pests and insects? I started raised beds early in the pandemic and then fell off to it because insects just ruined my harvest. I think I am going to give it another go though and just take some steps to prevent insects or pests from ruining it all.

I had a little one on the balcony (no gardern/backyard) for a veggie in pots experiment, it works nice enough without too many flies, mine was a bit too dry tho and it was on the least used balcony, so the few flies there were not bothering. The conceot was two buckets one inside the other, the one inside had some holes for the juices to flow in the lower space, that has a lil faucet for easier use. But to work good it should probably be more moist and it would probably have more flies then mine had :,) idk if this is of any utility for you but it was worth a try

May I suggest you look in RU-vid for hints on what is the latest editing tool for youtubers. I've found that so.etimes your questions get lost when a RU-vidr is busy so I tend to look for the answers myself. I know a lot of people have their own way of editing and then proving as they go. I'll search for you and give you some suggestions when I find something of interest.
