How to Start a Pokemon Card Collection in 2024! 

One of my favorite ways to get single cards are through card shops like this or flea markets. I find it cheaper to do than to buy piles of products and hope for the best.

local stores really are the way to go- but really look around and do research. i just got into collecting and i managed to find the premium collector box from the 151 set for only like 85 bucks at a local card shop, meanwhile online you'll be paying at least 120+ if not more.

Here is how I started mine recently. I bought some packs with little luck so I wouldn't recommend doing that. So I then started buying singles from my local pawn shop. I bought mostly original cards from base set, base set 2 and fossil. I also bought some black star promo cards from eBay. I look for the cheapest prices even in bad condition. For 50 dollars you could get a pretty good collection going if you're not worried too much about the condition. Also I got a 2016 charizard for 40 dollars and it's now worth 60. It looks like the original too.

I would start with getting some cool, cheap illustration rare cards. especially cards like etb promos are really nice and cheap, going sometimes for under a dollar. That way you can possibly buy 10-20 illustration cards for under 50$. Or set a specific goal to collect. Collecting Trainer Gallery is a lot of fun and most of them are fairly cheap. There are some more expensive ones, but you could start with the cheaper cards and as soon as you have quite some cards, you can buy the more expensive ones.

I'd kill for a LGS in my town in germany.. the next one seling Pokemon products is basically a Warhammer Store with 2-3 Pokemon Products and then it's 40 minutes of driving to 2 other LGS/Manga Stores which have insane 50%+ added on online prices which is a complete ripoff. 20% is totally fine for buying local, but that shit is insane. 5 bucks for a pack of penny sleeves lmao Would be a small dream to open one up myself, but I don't think I got the guts, funding or knowledge to make a profitable store.
