Duce Raymond is part of the legendary barbecue family that created Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce. He has spent his whole life in and around the food and barbecue industry so he knows quite a bit about how to start a successful sauce business.
"If you're really dead set on it, come up with a plan," Duce said in this video from the Chicago Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Restaurant and catering company. "Where are you going to sell the sauce? What are you going to do with it?"
The Raymond family helped build a company that is synonymous with outdoor cooking everywhere. The Sweet Baby Ray’s famous barbecue sauce brand - which was sold to Ken’s Foods in 2005 for $30 million - has become such a conglomerate that their hundreds of millions in sales, obviously number one, total the next seven brands’ sales combined.
Make sure you watch the full video to see the real secret to selling sauce. Hint: don't sell sauce until you sell your story on social media first.

There are people who actually book good guests and followers want to watch. I see many unexperienced interviewers who actually need to learn how to interview because what happens is when they don’t listen or keep interrupting the question that the followers want to have the answer to gets changed because the interviewer changes the thought process of the guest. I’m a follower of this channel, and I love all the information. People learn new things every day.

Awesome video guys. Been a big fan of Sweet Baby Rays since the 1990s. We are getting ready to step into the BBQ sauce ring ourselves out here in Hawaii. A lot of great information in this video and we will be implementing all of them. Mahalos.

I think that's the tough part of starting. With laws it's tough to make it out of your own home kitchen. It's expensive to open up a small warehouse

Unfortunately this video is not for the common man with limited funds and limited outlets. I am just getting started researching about copackers because I need to take my bbq sauce to the next level. I've kicked ass at farmers markets and I have made my bbq out of my kitchen, 10 jars at a time.

Although we have our own copacker and are selling in 1 small family owned grocery store, and a trade market in town & outside of town we aren't selling as quickly as we need to be. Suggestions on how to scale more quickly.

Would samples destroy your budget go around to local restaurants hand em out spread your name far and wide people appreciate a company that shows love and care towards the community. It’ll be a win win a local restaurant / bar gets a few bucks selling your bottles and you get the attention.

You need to become a salesmen. Get to the areas and markets you want to grow into and get out on foot and sell your sauce to stores Get out and do tastings in stores etc. Make ads, make content. You have to generate interest in your product or have the quality be so good people tell their friends. You cant just put it on a shelf and think it's going to fly off the shelves.

Have your Tylenol or Motrin at hand because once you realize the government hurdles you’ll have to go through you’re going to need it.
@nole8923
@nole8923 Месяц назад
The nastiest part of starting a sauce business is getting past the government hurdles. In Georgia you cannot start out making it in your own kitchen. You have to make it in a kitchen which is separate from your normal kitchen and it has to be state inspected and approved. Either that or you have to make it at a special government approved kitchen outside of your home. And that’s just for starters. The government is going to be your biggest nemesis when trying to start a sauce business. The rest is easy and fun compared to the BS gauntlet the government will put you through.
