I accept the challenge. I am at the very beginning. Restarting a new career but have the path figured out. CCENT through CCIE with a focus on Security. Now add Python with a dash of Linux and I should have all the makings for a #NetworkUnicorn. But as we say in Texas, if you can dream it, you can do it. Keep inspiring people, Network Chuck!
I appreciate the honesty. A lot of people sell IT careers as this never ending landscape of consistent challenge and change. While technology moves rapidly, your tasks at work usually remain consistent. That change isn't always relative to your position.
Great I started as a web developer but I really love to know how EVERYTHING works so I decided to get into devops and it's amazing how all the things I've learned combine whit this, and actually learning linux was one of the greatest decisions I've ever made
This gives me more motivation to study something new! Hoping to complete my CCNA R&S by thus December and simultaneously learn this new thing! Thanks for keeping us updated #FutureNetworkUnicorn
This video just gave me a clear vision of a path i want to go! I am currently studying for computer engineering (my course is mainly focuses on software development) and i am simultaneously on a cisco academy getting my ccna r&s. It has always been a duality for me between programming and networking (because i love both areas). Now i see a possible and trustworthy road to follow where i can basically become that unicorn you always talk about! It's seems like merging the best of two worlds together and I'm very excited to get in network automation / sdn / ibn. Will definitely checkout the Cisco devnet! Than you Chuck for this amazing video! Good work and keep up
I just found my interest in cyber security and programming and i keep seeing all of these videos after dipping my toes in for a few weeks. I'm currently studying for A+ and dabbling in ethical hacking and i have a loooong list of things i'm shooting for i just don't know where to start. I have a 36 hour course on python, another giant one on A+ and another one on ethical hacking.I don't know what order i should learn what in but i do know is i have not had this much fun learning in YEARS and i am glad to know about this channel.
So far in my 20-year career I have been able to avoid coding and it is awesome. I have no experience in coding (other than in college for my bachelors and masters degrees) and dont plan to touch the stuff, I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. When approached by upper management/stakeholders to do something that involves coding I tell them to hire a programmer or DBA to take care of it, and keep doing what they actually pay me to do. Sometimes staying in your own lane isnt a bad approach, and learning coding isnt always necessary.
Hi Chuck, I'm way into my CCNA journey and I can't say how happy I am that I'm not making the wrong decision studying python as soon as I'm done with my CCNA course. I will be taking the challenge and I hope to grow into a better Network Admin!
Hi NetworkChuck i wanted to thank you for your channel, I follow you since the beginning (since from STOP PROCRASTINATION) and you motivated me a lot to pass CISCO Exam and to improve myself. Now I am Certified CCNA Routing & Switching and CCNA Security (got last week!!!!) in part Thanks to your advice, tips, motivation, enthusiasm and so on. Never stop share, you are awesome!!! Now, after this I go buy a course in Udemy and then practice coding on CodeAcademy, TreeHouse etc... Thanks again from an Italian Tech working in Paris!! Ciao PS: Sorry for the bad English
Having a cup of coffee, and just signed up. I am done with CCNP ROUTE, on with SWITCH and finishing CCNP with T-SHOOT. Inbetween I am looking into the Cisco NetDev for this free course. Exciting times!
Thanks a lot. Much appreciated and much needed video indeed. I felt outdated, and lost the sense of direction. Being a “Physical Network Engineer” in a “Virtual” “Cloud” environment is a little bit frustrating. But thanks again for showing the path and guiding through. I will start with Python & Docker. All respect sir.
Chuck, this is epic. Its so weird that this video came up because I literally just finished a module in my Networking degree to do with SDN, AI and automation etc. 3 weeks from finishing my 3 year degree whilst im studying CCENT atm. Super keen and super excited. Much love from south africa boiiiiii :D
sometimes these types videos makes me confused, like by the time im going from good to great from ccna to ccnp, lets say it takes around a 1½ to 2yrs to become good n marketable in the industry as a good nwrk engineer from job perspective with good pay, by next 2-3yrs majority of the things in network might have already got automated, while i would have been getting good on core networking concepts, automation/programmability it is happening and it will be all over everywhere in next 2-3yrs man its sometimes very hard to keep up with learning n practicing new stuff n being able to b job ready for it while being on a job that u desperately want to leave for various reasons, dealing with personal family issues... still i take the challenge n ill get this 9hrs vids complete hopefully it opens up new perspective for us. thanks for presenting this video in such manner that it motivattes us to not give up n keep going n coping up with time n tech to be valuable in current n future job market...
I'm studying for CCNP Route I pushed it back to January though. I started a vlog on my journey so i remember it better. As soon as I'm finished with T-Shoot I'm going to try and learn Python.
I'm currently studying CCNP Routing & Switching. The change is pretty cool and extremely interesting! I wish I can have all the knowledge in both networking and programming.
The thing that is super exciting for me is I have already dreamt of learning dev and now it’s become a reality. Thanks for pumping me up even more than I already was!!!
You motivate me alot brother When I see you video I feel more to study network m same like you one of network lover ☺️☺️☺️ I wish for you be more successful man in your life 👍🏻
Looking to start CCIE Sec from Feb next year and thought about doing AWS Solutions Architect and a basic F5 cert in my downtime but now you've got my attention with this vid since I've always knew eventually I'd have to learn Python at least so I checked out the Devnet site and saw this line on an Intro to Devnet module "Why Code? I design and manage networks of all sizes. I use IEEE 802.1w, IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, and BGP to build communications networks that would make Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf proud. Why should I learn to code?" I thought wow this is me.....I'm in on this challenge!
I'm in! Finishing up my ICND2 in mid-November. Have an associates in Software Engineering and have been looking for a way to brush up on some OOP and dig into Python, so this should be perfect. Thanks for the inspiration Chuck!
Great video Chuck. I accept your challenge. Please let us know once you create a Facebook group where in everyone can share their knowledge and track the progress. That really helps Chuck ! Appreciate your efforts man :)
Started out by watching a CCENT video to get some study tips and now I'm going to developer.cisco.com. I thank you NetworkChuck and youtube autoplay (mostly chuck) for this experience.
Thanks so much for this great interview it confirms that the route I want to take is a good one, alternating between learning programming and networking!
Hey, way ahead of you :) I started Hank's course last week, I'm at lesson 7 on the basics and I'm trying to be consistent with it. Great stuff so far! Let's do this, go wild on programmability ! :)
I'm starting and taking my inspiration from you and others. I'm tackling CCNA, python, and Linux and more Linux. I'm going for hat and more but first the basics I need from all three.
Really appreciate your and Preston’s thoughts on this kind of transition. I am a recent CCNA certified candidate and wanted to learn about adapting devops and IBN. Please do form a group as it might help individuals like me.
Nice interview, it's on the list im working through. Interesting to hear that alot of cloud networks are not designed well. I guess it's the case of some legacy networks I've seen. They are put together in a rush, sorted out later and then the next thing comes which is put together in a rush.
Very interesting and like learning the new stuff. My background isn’t programming so I may be a little slow. Thanks for this awesome video and always look forward to your next one.
Learning new things is great. Whilst you’re at it invest in improving your written and spoken skills. I work with several immigrants from various cultures and the worst ones are those that think technical prowess will barge them through any obstacles to their careers. Wrong. Soft skills are essential. You will know when you make a mistake. And we all do. Who has your back then? Being able to articulate yourself under stress is a skill in itself. I am a lead data centre engineer for a large telco.
hey chuck I just ended with my CCNA:R&S and is going to start with CCNA: SEC and SDNA, IBN, DNA CENTER looks amazingly interesting. You got me in and I'm going to start with the course you mentioned! Lets make a facebook or a business whatsapp group and add all the interested ones!! What say? BTW I am a MCA(MASTER's OF COMPUTER APLICATION) student and going to be a post grad in next 6 months.
I'm currently studying to get my CCENT, soon followed by my CCNA. I've been interested in learning some Python, but was scared to even dip in. Your enthusiasm won me over, lol. I'll be logging in and checking out the videos. Thanks as always for the great content on your channel. One more thing... I'd definitely be down to join a FB page of you create one. #ChallengeAccepted
I am in Cyber Security. I will be graduating in May 2019 and I want to get into Automation. I will be starting the Devnet courses this week itself because to be honest, I feel I am overwhelmed with all that is out there.
Hello Chuck. Let's do it. I am subscribing right now. I hope I am not too far behind you in the course. And I need to write it: I love your style. Keep this channel going.
Frankly whenever I hear the word "automation", I get a little scared. I was considering a career change into IT, but it seems like eventually you guys are going to automate even yourselves out of a job. I read something recently about how in the near future with AI and all, that there'll be less need for as many coders, b/c of machine learning and pre-packaged code modules, etc.
If that sci-fi future world does happen....it won’t be for a long time. So, jump into IT, it’s amazing, and your job and skill will adapt to all the changes.
Guys Your sooo difficult to keep track of and follow on "Labbing", "experimenting" level, etc...On your Experts Levels, I mean. Really...Wooow ... But Thanx Chuck and cool job, keep pushing us to new challenges on #NetDevOps#and on becoming #NetworkUnicorns@...
Im kind of worried, i naturally suck at math hence the reason why i moved from programming to networking but now i always think what my level of programming should be as an aspiring network engineer. Basic? Intermediate? Professional?
I have recently started as a network engineer. I love it, but my god, everyone blames the network for everything, it's so annoying. Anyway, I'm studying for my JNCIA and I can't wait to finish my certs 😀
Im onboard ✋ feel at a bit of crossroads... Got CCNA R&S a couple of weeks ago, since then ive been unable to decide what to do. I started looking at MCSA Server, then started Security+ and now im looking at python... Need some focus!!
So I have just finished and obtained my CCNP-RS/enterprise, and I want to be a unicorn! Should I pursue DevNet associate or DevNet professional? Or perhaps neither!? I have accepted this challenge and checking it out!
