Gone, are the days of kayaking! I miss watching you going out on your “seasonally provided”, wooded area, pond, with the pickup and IBC tote. 5 gallon pails, and kayak!❤😂

I am very lucky that I bought a house built by a bootlegger during the Great Depression, with two maple trees, in the middle of town. I tapped years ago, but the cooking down is the issue. This year I decided to do it again, since there is no snow but the nights stay below freezing and the days between 20-40 degrees, which means not trying to get to trees with deep snow on the ground (female: 77 on March 15). I use new water jugs, the state say you can use milk jugs but they get contaminated by the milk. Nice refresher video.

Oh how I look forward to the evaporator/Sugar Shack part of this every year. I dont know why, but it takes me back to my childhood. I guess its so interesting to me because God knew man would discover His little treat for us… Maple Syrup! 😋

We use to use milk jugs or those 2gal water jugs to collect sap. Sometimes you would have to collect 2x a day but they where free, nothing to clean and very recyclable.

This is a great idea also, we did the same thing in the past but I couldn’t keep up with collection once I got a lot of them

The only problem with using bags is that there banning plastic bags everywhere

Meh, your link for me in Canada has each (as in one) bag holder at 50 bucks (before tax and shipping, before spiles, and of course the bags that go with it). Even if one just has 6 trees that's $300+ just for something to hang the bag off of, way cheaper to just buy syrup from a neighbour at that point. Nice video though :) thanks for showing us how you do it.

About how long does it take to fill one of those sacks on average, I know every tree is different.

They filled to overflowing in one day this week, just depends on the day. We had a good freeze overnight and then sunny and 48 during the day, perfect temps for sap to run

They were put to the test last week, we had 40mph winds and they were all good. As long as there is a little sap in them they will stay on the tree, if they are empty I have had them blow off
