Vibrato is super tricky and elusive to many! One of the main problems with trying to figure out how to get the 'ideal' singing vibrato is that there is a mentality that comes with that quest that suggests we need to MAKE it happen. Really, we need to learn to LET it happen (like so many other things in great singing). In this video, I lay the groundwork for you to discover the vibrato you were meant to have!

I've watched nearly every video you made and you are the best teacher on RU-vid I found so far. But actually this video didn't help me a lot. Of couse you explained everythig very well and I understood it, but that one essential tip was missing. Now I know some fundamental stuff for vibrato but getting into it is very difficult for me. But keep producing those great videos you helped me a lot developing my voice. Thanks

I developed this type of vibrato years ago and can't unlearn it. If I'm not wrong it should be called a "laryngeal" vibrato. Which isn't natural and I don't know how to get that. When you pay attention to the big voices' throats (like Mariah, Whitney, Aretha, etc.), they don't move their larynxes as we do. At this point, I'm somewhat convinced it's either you have it or you don't type of a phenomenon. There have been times I felt it happen naturally but it keeps reverting back to the artificial one. Sounds almost as good but it doesn't feel good to know that I could be better lol
@DeborahBoily
@DeborahBoily 4 года назад
I have been singing for 40 years and coaching for 20. You cannot force from the throat and it's a natural outcome of good support...l agree with you on much of this. I find it to be THE hardest thing to teach. I was born with a natural vibrato, blessed l should say, so it's even harder for me to try to teach how. I am sending this to my students who are straight toning everything..
@inceptionsd
@inceptionsd 3 года назад
Great video, as always. It's mind-boggling how much information we get for free these days! Vibrato is the first thing ever that i've learned. Don't remember how or why, but it always felt natural for me. My advice is this: Don't force it, let it come naturally, for some it might take more time to develop. DO NOT try to produce it by chopping up your voice (rapidly constraining the airflow, sounds awful and is extremely inefficient) The tone produced with vibrato should be always constant, with even and the same volume. It should be produced by changing the pitch just slightly (let's say one semi-tone higher or lower) and then switching between those two tones in a wavy manner. You can do it mroe slowly at first, and then kinda work with it and try to figure out what feels most comfortable.

I have been studying singing for... 8 years? (Not really applied the whole time, mainly in the beggining) Using mainly youtube videos, and I can tell two things from your videos: - Many things I have learned from joining the knowledge from mutiple sources, are really well explained as a whole in your channel. - Since I realize that, I can also tell that the things I haven't learn are explained in a really complete way, that makes me without that NEED to seek many and many sources for each small thing. tldr; Great job!

Really good video! In order for me to engage those throat muscles or voicebox (don't know the correct terms) i have to move my jaw a little. Like when I do the vibrato I have to shake my jaw a little bit, and I have to think about my jaw to start the vibrato, but the vibrato still mainly comes from my throat. Is this due to a biological factor, I do have a pretty small male jaw, or am I just doing it all the wrong way?
