Riding in Phoenix in July is a different experience. It was 116F/ 46C yesterday. I ride with a light gray mesh jacket, KLIM , with an evaporative cooling vest underneath, which is THE deal maker. Best $40 I've ever spent. Gray full faced helmet. Gloves are necessary, but are only about 75% protective against the heat. My fingertips get very hot, even with the gloves - doesn't matter what kind. I had a conversation with my friend who does Air Conditioning here in the Sonoran Desert. He climbs into attics 130F - 160F / 55C - 68C, in the summer. His advice is basically this: liquids. Lots of liquids. Before I ride in the heat I slam a gator-aid, and then one after. All this together gives me roughly one hour of comfortable riding time. The heat here will kill you if you let it. Ride safe my dudes!

I remember seeing the UK recommending jackets for summer riding and the moment they introduced leather, I knew it doesn't get hot enough there. In Texas it's 41C and 75% humidity average daily. Well at least in Houston. Id rather have dry heat

I am a moto safety instructor and I recently had to pour water all over my neck tube and base layer shirt just to get home safely after teaching all day in 105 heat index weather. It works folks ❤

A friend saved me with a wet neck cloth from heat illness last Sunday , it was 104° in South Georgia USA. I had 75 miles to get home and had all the signs of heatstroke. I never would have made it without that cloth to cool me down. I plan to carry one or two with me all the time now, along with a bottle of ice water.

YES, the wet / damp neck gator or tube does actually work … cycling, motorbiking, hiking, walking etc … i wear them all the time when i know the temps will be extreme (hot) … thanks 4 sharing!

I live in the Caribbean. I ride a cruiser with a windshield. - On hotter days I do take the windshield off to improve airflow. - I've got a modular helmet so in slower moving traffic or at stop lights I just flip that up. It helps loads and u still get decent full face and eye coverage. - I always ride in a balaclava. It helps protect the helmet lining a little more from sweat degredation. But as with the neck tube I like to soak it water and put it on. The evaporative cooling makes a massive difference. - same with active wear shirts. I wet it a little. They dry fast but it definitely helps keep things a lot less swampy. - I wear prescription specs. So I invested in safety glasses with high impact rating, and got them with tinted lenses. Far more protective than regular sunglasses and cost less than the moto specific ones with the same prescription. - if you do ride with a backpack already, consider adding a hydration bladder to it. U can fill it with ice with and water and pack it so it's as close to your back as it can get. If you don't ride with a backpack I still recommend investing in a hydration pack. There are hydration hip packs work great if you don't want to have one on your back, and if your bike has luggage pack an extra bladder with only ice. Wrap it in a couple layers of foil and tuck it away safely it stays cool for at least 5 hours.

The damp, not soggy, neck tube idea also works for you wrists so dig out those Andy Murray Tribute Sweatbands and run them under the tap before you set off. Of course if you want the ultimate in cooling, just do what I did, wash your riding shirt and then put it on while it was still damp. To say I was cooled is an understatement, it felt like I had frostbite for a week. Still if it was really hot, I could be tempted to give my riding shirt a bit of a spritz with a garden spray bottle or similar. Oh, and trees, don't forget trees, it's always cooler underneath them, but they're rarely right next to junctions/traffic lights for visibility reasons. Don't charge straight for the front of the queue at the lights, and definitely don't filter between the buses and trucks pouring heat off their engines, hang back, take a chill pill, own the road around you so you get any breezes and yes, stop under a tree.

This only really works with cotton shirts innit? I tried this with a running shirt in like 38C, and it was dry in 3 minutes of riding.

Also shade makes a big difference even when you're moving because it lowers the temperature of the ambient air you're riding through, so try to route your rides through shaded roads as much as you can.

When riding over in europe i find that soaking a cotton t shirt to wear under your jacket does an amazing job. Granted it's no good for the commute but touring at temperatures over 30c it's feels like having air conditioning.

In the UK it just doesn't get hot enough. Try riding in 40-45 degrees C. A cooling vest is a must. I have ridden in 45+ deg temperatures, I pair a mesh (as mesh as possible) with a cooling vest to remain cool. The vest will need to be soaked every 2-3 hrs. I use a Revit Airwave 4 or Territory jacket which has one of the best mesh on the market...

Freeze a camel pack leaving 2 -3 inches from the top to permit expansion of the ice. I ride in the Southwest of the US.. yesterday was 117 it lasted for 2 hours... Try it. Enjoyed your information.

You could have mentioned that bright heat reflective colours like, white, cream or pale grey's help a lot. I have just bought the new Leatt multi-tour 7.5 in desert sand, for a trip to south Croatia, via the Großglockner in Austria. Needless to say, its riding gear with diversity. Pair that with a down jacket, and i believe i am covered for all eventuality that may arise 👍

Stay away from the darker colors (helmet, pants, gloves and jackets). Of course we all look cool in black but it’s not wise to use it under the sun, I know what I’m talking about, I live in the tropics (Central America). PS: the soggy neck tube always works, preferably icy water. Replenish every time you stop. Be sure to cover your ears with it 😉 Cheers

In extreme heat, a cooling vest and a kool tie (both retain water) also work well for me.

Wet T shirt under a mesh jacket works a treat
@jlrutube1312
@jlrutube1312 2 дня назад
What works for me is.... I carry a spray bottle with water in it and wear a mesh jacket. You just spray your t- shirt with water but don't totally soak it or it will feel terrible. Just spray enough to get it all slightly damp but still partially dry. Then put a mesh jacket over it and when you are riding the air will flow through the mesh and hit the damp t shirt and keep you cool. It will last for about 20 minutes of riding and then just pull over on the side of the road and unzip your jacket and spray yourself again. Etc, etc. This is a very comfortable method. Yes, it's a little bit of a hassle to pull over now and then but it's better than burning up.

Great channel, love the content...I'd add that lighter colors always helps. Avoid anything black if at all possible...here in Virginia, we are high humidity, over a 100 with the heat index is a frequent occurrence. I've found too that having a mirrored face shield during the day helps if you are highway riding and want a closed visor. And one more thing, if out for long rides, be prepared for drastic temperature changes once the sun goes down.

I have the knox jacket, pants, and gloves. All from you guys. Still too hot, I wear long sleeve wicking shirt and pants under them. That helps. But i have some Held leather pants treated with some type of cooling stuff, and with the wicking long pants underneath, they are as cool as the knox when on the move. Boots Rokker Urban Racer, all year round, no sweat, no stink. Best boots i have ever had. Im going to try cooling vest next, the type that you soak in water.

Why most of summer ventilated moto pants and jackets are of black or near black color??( the first thing while being under the sun is wearing as light as possible (yea, bikes are not as clean as cars inside) clothing! Really disappointing thing.

I’ve got a very vented Revit jacket in very light grey. Well it was. Now, after a few decent trips, it’s mainly the colour of bug-guts and chain lube and dirt. Can’t complain, still nicer in the sun, but motorcycling is a dirty activity. Same thing goes for my Pando Moto khaki jeans, cool but oh so dirty.

Nice S2R 800 ;) My first "big bike", still in the garage, still riding since 2018. Personaly, I use a dyneema legging all year long and, for myself, It's the best protective gear for legs in summer. It protects from the heat of the engine, remains breathable and stays comfortable after an all day riding (I went to Morroco last summer with my 9T and I know what I mean :) )
