So I'm your age and watching your videos remind me of when I was younger and my mom was still alive and we would go antique shopping,put up wallpaper,plant flowers and share our general love of animals and butterflies. I don't have her to talk to anymore ( well, I still talk to her) but listening to you is like having her back at least for a while, to talk to me about all the things big and small that we should treasure in this world. Thanks for being there. 🦋

ADHD is real for sure!! Typical day- getting dressed, one shoe on when I notice the side table needs to be dusted- stop and dust the table- then put on the other shoe. Arrange flowers and need a small frog, while looking I find a pretty bow that would look beautiful on my new wreath- attach the bow to the wreath, then I notice the flowers still need to be arranged- back to look for the frog. And on and on and on. Somehow it all gets done but whew!

It looks like an imprint of an oversized foot... like a chicken foot but way bigger... maybe webbed. But, that's my imagination. Wow, the ride on the gator was wonderful. I can't imagine owning all that property. I do have critters, even though I am in the suburbs . I even call my house Critter Cottage.. haha.. lots of squirrels and racoons and Lord knows what else! I imagine the work is endless in a property that size. Makes my gardening today seem so trivial.

I have found hundreds of artifacts on my property , I can tell you many times those stone walls weren't made by farmers but are ancient native American burial stones. This has been found to be the case all over New England. I have one on my property too. If you photograph the stones , you can " see" differently. One of your larger stones depicts a head, profile. It is quite common. I ,too, studied Archeology and I can tell you , you won't get much help from any Archeologist. Native American artifacts are largely ignored or scoffed at. Good luck.

Back in the 1960s we had a yearly camp trip to Hanover, to have lunch at the Dartmouth Outing Club and shop . I used to venture off to the little Native American museum / display at Dartmouth. Have you called there to see if there are any contacts / experts that they would provide you ?

Hi, Linda: Your idea for asking for help with your yard is a great idea. Even though there is a cost, it is well worth it. You have a large property, and the work you describe will take you most of the summer! There is no shame in asking for additional help, such as rebuilding the walls and spreading mulch. and pea gravel. It will free your time to work on the "pretty stuff" and more importantly, avoid any injuries. I took on a lot the year I retired, and I felt it for a long time. What I realized is that I missed out on enjoying the beauty of the garden. I was so hard at work that I didn't have much time for making it pretty. I didn't mind doing the work, but sometimes letting someone else do the heavy lifting is a good choice. Can't wait to see more about how your garden progresses this year!

The rocks all look so neat but just curious as to how and why they came to be there from previous owners. Also I bought your window candles about two years ago and love them but yesterday one of them just quit working. Luckily I bought extras. Have you ever had that problem. Love all your content, especially the music you select for each video. I look forward to watching them every Sunday morning! Btw~ with the "dump site" archaeology project you have on your property, you may want to build your own archaeological sifter for finding artifacts. They are super easy to DIY and will help you discover even the smallest of pieces. Who knows what may even be on the layers below where you are digging! Also, on the petroglyphs maybe try something a gravestone rubbing to see the design better. Happy exploring!!

The flower you found looks like the leaves of trillium, which are typically planted as ground cover in woodland or shade areas. I could be wrong, but it is the right pace for them to show up. I just planted a bunch of the tubers in my shade garden. If you see one, there are probably many more that will come up now that you've uncovered them. They will spread if you give them a chance.

Having retired, after 27 years, from the world of Special Education, I am fascinated by your journey as an adult living with ADHD. Finding creative ways to manage your distractibility is inspiring. I had a coworker who also learned to cope with her ADHD in unique ways. She was responsible for writing many lengthy reports and found the task quite daunting. She resorted to sitting at her computer, facing a wall. She would don headphones and tape a sign to her back. DO NOT DISTURB (she didn't worry about offending!) After many years, I developed a unique understanding of ADHD and came to admire every student facing the many challenges it presented. My friend taught me all about empathy because I was skeptical 27 years ago. I believed that ADHD was a polite label for misbehavior. Oh my, was I wrong! I am curious to know what the awareness of ADHD was when you were a student. I would assume medication was not an option for you. Continue the good fight, Linda and continue to inspire us with your amusing stories of compensation. I would welcome a video devoted to the topic, from your unique perspective.

Hi, after my whole childhood being labeled as class clown, daydreamer, over active, not trying hard enough, my ADHD did not get diagnosed until I was 18 when my college guidance counselor asked me to bring in old school work. They noted the backwards writing and comments on my report cards. They suggested testing for ADD and dyslexia and multiple tests were done and over the years, I have been re-tested. Meds were around for me back then and have been on ever since, as needed. I love the taping of a sign to your friend's back. I used to make a paper traffic light that was taped to my office door. it had removable red, yellow, and green circles for the lights. My children knew if the red circle was up... No bothering mom while working, yellow, approach slowly, green come on in and chat away.
@margaretcrofton2560
@margaretcrofton2560 4 месяца назад
@@newenglandfineliving What a shame that your diagnosis did not come until college, but it must have been a huge relief to you...and your family. Despite living/working in one of the top school systems in CT, dyslexia was not acknowledged. It was one of the hardest things to deal with. knowing that a student showed all the hallmarks, but not being able to pursue the subject. As a system, I believe that they were not prepared to deal with the specialized instruction that would be needed for those students. My husband shows many traits associated with ADHD (just look at his car!). but was never diagnosed. Like you, he has developed a very successful business and is admired by many for his fierce work ethic. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES! Thank you for sharing, Linda. I feel like a true kindred spirit!

Vinegar is very harmful to the soil , Bonide makes an organic product that is organic to kill weeds in gravel,I don’t use it in flower beds .Every thing you do is wonderful it’s going to look Beautiful ….take ALL the help you can get from the landscaper ,that just gives you more time to be creative in the garden 🌿🍃

I called help this year, too! They come tomorrow. As soon as I scheduled them, I felt such relief! I am still cleaning up from a tornado that hit 6 trees near my garden and recovering from two surgeries (got the all clear end of March). You wouldn't believe the weeds and vines after 9 months of doing nothing! I need to use your squaring off method. Great idea!❤

I love your property and all of your plans that you share with us . . . you seem to have so much fun on your property AND in your beautiful home. I do understand how you get distracted and don't plant the plants you buy. I'm guilty of the same thing. Does Ben give you grief about doing that? LOL! Thanks for the fun video.

Do you need to water the dormant plants before they are stored over the winter?

Sorry, I don't know the rules. I think I lucked out by rolling the lavender inside. The other plants were outside all winter.

Loved being in the yard, seeing the plants and the rocks. I have yellow trout lilies and white ones. Love seeing the critters in the woods. You got a lot of clean up done. I know how satisfying that is. And I just noticed how long your hair has gotten!

I love your Creating a Box idea! There are soooo many distractions when I’m working outdoors. All I need is any shiny object to catch my eye and I’m off in another direction. Can’t wait to try it this week 🙌

Hello, as someone who loves to garden and have over an acre of beds I have found that if I work my garden in zones I get so much done. I don’t start a new “zone” until I have one done. It is so much organized and mentally satisfying and I don’t get stressed out over it. This works for me but not everyone. Just a thought. Love watching your videos and living in the past with you. Thanks.

I absolutely love how you "Love" your land and our New England. Every tree, every plant means something to you. I understand. I find such joy just watching you tend to your home and grounds and your surrounding acreage! It sure has been a cold spring Linda. I can't remember a colder one actually. It will be nice to see the sun tomorrow and Tuesday. Happy Cinco de mayo!

I really like the box technique. I have a short attention span and could use that. Thanks! Also, I bought one of those small tractors with a bucket loader and use it constantly for moving compost, mulch, etc. I opted for the tires that won't tear up the lawn. It's great for moving wood, also, and when I weed large areas, I can throw the weeds into the bucket and then just drive over to the compost pile. Good luck with yours!

Good morning Linda, I love your box idea. I do something like that with my "list of to dos" it gets it done. Yes, I could see a face in the one stone and some kid of bird, or star? Can't wait to see what experts say. My Mom would go out each fall and plant daffodil bulbs in the woods behind our house. So pretty in the spring with the dogwood in bloom. Maybe block off an area for a "zombie" grave yard and the use it during your fall decorating??? Thank you for taking us along. Have a great spring day.....

What a lovely woodland/wildflower garden you can make along the edge of your woods. Be on the look our for some lady's slipper. It is worth a trip to Garden in the Woods and also Pickety Place.

Linda, My husband and I love watching your outdoor videos and drives. What a wonderful plan to break a big job into a smaller obtainable job. On another note, I do the same at school with my students: setting a timer for 30 minutes work and brain breaks. I also fold their tests or paper in half. The Open Court Reading Series gives students 9-12 page tests in elementary school. The problem is not as much ADHD but, not giving children enough outside, recess/breaks and not using flexible seats and schedules. Tears for Fears Mad World fits our society very well.
