I'm a writer and I use milanote to plan my stories, my boards actually do look like a wall of text but with arrows, and those arrows really do help me sort things out plus milanote also has a 'document' card where I can tuck paragraphs into so that my board isn't just full of story details, that's helpful as well :D You're a huge inspiration goodgis! I dream of working together with a group of passionate people like you do with Firith. Keep up the amazing work!
I was watching your view on Godot vs Unity just as this got posted You give me quite the inspiration to follow my own game dev journey on Godot so I thank you for that For everyone who is also starting, I wish you all the best and a successful road!
I use trello at the moment but this software looks great, I’m a visual and kinaesthetic learner so this is far better for me. I do also have a little obsession of organising my files (hehe) so this looks great!
I do enjoy the passion in your voice, it does mean you've found the right tool for you. When I finally found the right tool for me (and even now, 3 years later) I will always talk people's ears off about how it helps me stay organised when developing my side-project.
I totally agree with you. If you don't organize your game you can even not finish it or lose interest. Would be good to know how you organize your game, what you use (I think you use more than just board), and how you separate ideas from approved ones. How to work with this in a team :)
I've been on a quest to find a better organization system for the last 4 months or so, this is exactly what I was trying to find, I just didn't have the words for it. Thank you!
I dont have money to use Milanote anymore. I only have like 20 elements left :( But it is very good and i really enjoyed working with it. I really like the dotted background and every element looks very clean. I really like this software.
This looks really cool! I've been in the same situation, and finally ran across Craft which makes me super happy now. I'm more of a text braindump kind of guy, which makes it a good fit for me - but I'll definitely give Milanote a try for a future project too!
I absolutely adore Milanote! I feel like it's the first app that really works well for organizing gamedev projects, outside of printing stuff and doing it on your wall.
@@Goodgis Uhuh. Look, I'm sure the software is useful for those that feel they need it (for me, I'll stick to pen and paper seems I can literally use it anywhere, even when on the clock at work, unlike a digital device). But the OP is right. This just felt like one big ad. At least the first 5 minutes (and it's only a 7 min video). I know you said you reached out to them, not vice-versa...but who are you kidding? :P That's the kind of thing marketing teams tell you you have to say, to try and detract from the idea it's just a simple ad they paid you to do, full of positive things they paid you to say. The only way anyone can EVER really trust something like this, is if the product you are advertising has no affiliation to you, in any way, shape, or form. But as you admitted you are affiliated with them (the how you are is irrelevant), then sadly you can't blame anyone for being skeptical. Still, I do applaud you for being open about that much...even though last I checked, it was illegal to hide such affiliations, plenty of RU-vidrs and Companies try to anyway. So kudos for that much at least.
Would you be disappointed if he made this same video amd posted it Without getting paid by milanote?? Are you disappointed he killed two birds with one stone?
This really seems like this "one tool to rule them all" situation. Will definitely check it out to maybe replace my net of draw io, trello and so on! :)
Milanote is amazing thank you! Organization is so important and this does the job just right!! My favorite option so far is tha ability to click on itmes from webpages and it saves right to your project. Thanks Goodgis for the vid and Milanote for the amazing program!!
At least for how I do things, Kanban boards are good for visual projects but horrible for things which require tasks. Much like you do, I did spend about 1 month testing pretty much every task management tool on the market and ended up setting on Quire. And I did set up on it for one particular reason: every single task manager out there seems to always put recurring tasks behind paid plans while that feature is free on Quire.
Wait till you find about Masterplan!... which come to think of it is better for solodev in one machine. In any case, the level maker on that one is pretty appealing.
Tried this out with my friends! Kind of sad that I don't have money to pay for the monthly fee, but it's such a good way to organize small projects ^_^
I wish Milanote would fuse with Whimsical. Milanote boards inside boards is just... fantastic, but it still has usability issues, like the need to click on "arrow" then selecting both ends. Whimsical makes this way easier but unfortunately, Whimsical doesn't have the board inside board approach, which is something that makes so much sense to me.
I don't know if you've done a video on this or not...but...I am having the worst time finding music software for games. Free would be preferable, but maybe it's a video topic to consider? Something along the lines of: Top Ten Free and Paid Software for Making Music for Your Game? That would be wonderful!
I wonder about this software potentially having a trap in how much you can sink into making it “look nice” ultimately I respect that it’s all about conveying information and if pictures make it more efficient then great. My worry would be that at a certain point it’s just looking nicer than a Kanban board rather than actually executing the task better. If you read this, would love to read your thoughts about it
@@Goodgis haha exactly, no matter what I use I try to make it look nice but also straight to the point. That makes it easier for me to understand it. Less of a headache!
I just use Microsoft 365 and normal folders on windows all in a big folder... I do need to get more effecnt with it and add more folders but still it works for me... Millanote seems good though glad you enjoy it!
This seems great, but it's way too expensive. The free model is so restrictive I think it's unusable in the scope you are describing. 12.50 USD a month? This is highway robbery. I will continue to use Trello as it's free and has API for all sorts of stuff.
Seems cool, but only a subscription plan, no way of purchasing it which is a tiring business model. Unless this will help me make an entire game in 6 (10 if we're being generous at $100 bucks) months it's over priced as hell.
Yeah, I felt the same way at first. I would be awesome to find an open source version down the road, but until then the is the best software that I could find.
I generally struggle with what to put on the board. It's just pretty hard to break down tasks, and I especially have a problem updating the board, which is something I do like once per 2 weeks. Often completely forgetting about its existence. Any tips?
Perhaps you actually don't need it? The board should help you organize your game so if you find yourself working on your game without it just fine and having a hard time updating your board to reflect that, either you have another way of organizing your thoughts or you just don't need it.
@@יובלהרמן-ח2ד I did think about that in the past, yeah, but I want to have a way to see how much I've done at the same time. Even though I personally don't get that much motivation from it, it's still great to see that I am actually moving forward.
I mostly use my boards a daily tasks. You can also make a board where it's a list of all the enemies, locations, or items. Then make a check list for each of them. The most important thing is to make it bite size chunks.
This looks insane to me. "I find kanban boards overwhelming" and then you show a different layout on every canvas and flyouts for all sorts of elements. I am really glad there are different tools for different brains. Glad you like this but it looks maybe better for a different kind of thinker than me.
Learn basics of programming, then learn an easy programming language, after you get the hang of it you could learn an object oriented programming language like C++ or C#, i recommend C# because it's much easier and you need to learn it if you want to use unity, now you have to choose a Game Engine, i highly recommend unity, watch some brackeys tutorials on it, also it uses C# so make sure to learn it, if unity is too overwhelming for you, i think there are some easier and simpler engines out there, watch some videos to learn about them, idk im a beginner too i started a couple of months ago and im working on a 2d game rn. Hope i could help more but that's all i got, cya.
The free version of this seems extremely limited. Just 100 notes allowed? Pretty sure I'd burn through that in a week and then be stuck. $10 a month is way too much for the paid version.
Hitting 23 minute pal. Well It's Night For Me And Sudgestion to Dewdrop Dynasty 1.Add Piranas To The Water Map 2. Name The Water Map The Sewage Sea And Tip. Make The Map Big And Add Captain Crab (Painting or Boss)
I gave it a shot. Im going back to my tried and true Things 3. Its a great piece of software but I tire of subscriptions. I just want to buy something and have it. I know you said free but there is not nearly enough space.
