Came over from the end of Tom's Video. Thank you again for helping to keep him safe. Thank you TWICE for sharing something this beautiful.

Huh, that cave looked absolutely tiny to begin with, when you said first time cavers would likely come there I was doubtful because it looked like a tight squeeze to enter, but then as you walked up to it I realised it was just perspective and actually the entrance was much much larger

Saw you on Tom's channel, but I gotta say this takes me back to a lot of caving/abseiling I did when I was younger. Good work highlighting the realities of what caving is like - you gotta be sensible and be cautious, but that doesn't mean you can't have a lot of fun while you're at it. Keep doing what you're doing! Stay safe!

How did I not know of this channel? Came here from Tom's video. I have terrible claustrophobia, but caves have always fascinated me. Luckily, I don't get triggered by videos so... thank you!

I've persuaded quite a few claustrophobics to give caving a try and so far every single one has loved it.I find the trick is to keep them moving and busy so they don't have time to dwell on their fears. I also talk to them (which helps distract them) and try to keep an upbeat, positive mood e.g telling silly anecdotes, singing etc. Sometimes a bit of gallows humour helps too! If everyone around them is relaxed and having fun it rubs off on them and helps make them realise their fears are irrational. One of my friends who was extremely claustrophobic and had sworn we'd never get him down a cave, but we eventually persuaded him to give it a go. He enjoyed it so much he rushed out and bought his own caving gear, went on every avialable trip and within a year went on a 5 week caving expedition to Vietnam. He still got pangs of claustrophobia from time to time, but his love of caving proved stronger.

I'm both a bit terrified and curious about caving. That's a strange combination and I don't really know what to do about it.

Thank you. It reminds me that i am too old for that . in my 20's i had some clostaphobia but was flexable to get out of attics or from under houses (critters bug me a lot) at 68 i had to hang it up and retire because my left hand began to shake install or remove screws. The presenter does have an infectious smile and spirit that would make it so i could do short caving, but it would be very short trips.

Seeing your boots disappear into that small hole reminded me of a kids book I read back in the day - The Weirdstone of Brisangamen by Alan Garner. There is one part of the story where they go through a seriously narrow cave system to escape the baddies, and it is so well written that even today, it is TERRIFYING!

Holy crap, completely unrelated but I've been trying to find this book for so long! I read it as a kid, and always assumed it was The Hobbit and I was mis-remembering due to not really understanding, but this comment triggered a thought, and having looked up The Weirdstone it's definitely this! Thanks, random guy, for solving this mystery!

@@GwresYnKernow You are welcome! I re-read it maybe five years ago, still very, very, claustrophobic.

I also came from Tom's channel. I think I would be too terrified to go near a cave let alone go on one, so best of luck to whoever wants to try it!

Very informative, clear and so beautiful (in the big caves). However watching you squeeze through gaps that you can barely get through..eeeek! I'm 6'8" and very empathetic, so this makes me squeal like Tom, although as a former diver the cold water would not bother me.

That half hour walk through the narrow passage. Really nope for me. Caves are fascinating, but even this video gives me claustrophobia. I'd be terrified of getting stuck or freaking out.

Caves are indeed very safe, when using done correctly. Using proper techniques it is generally agreed that your more likely to get in an automobile accident on the way to the cave than you are to get in any sort of accident within the cave. I implore anyone interested in caving to go find a local grotto. They will have the expertise and resources to help you get to started underground in the safest and most enjoyable way possible and will know the coolest caves in your area.

@bingbangbong5055
@bingbangbong5055 2 года назад
In the UK our rescue teams for things like caving and mountaineering are often run by volunteers, and afaik there's generally no charge for being rescued (just like there's no charge for being picked up by an ambulance)

i know this is gonna sound like a troll question. BUT, what is there to see? I mean, what is the excitement? It is just a hole in the ground, with rocks and mud and water and such. I dont see a reason why to even go in there in the first place. Sure, i have been in caves with nice stalagmites and tites. And nice formations. BUT for the rest, i dont get it. To me it is like a forrest. Once you have seen one, you basically have seen em all. A bunch of wood with leaves, mud on the ground, animals crawling around.
