My teacher used to say: Early - Enter Late - Leave (blend) Entering is generally preferable, but if you try to enter too late, you're screwed. So, he would say that if you were taken by surprise and the strike is close, follow it's path (blend). Even if you get hit, it won't be as bad as standing in place. Obviously, if you see it coming early, you can still decide to blend, but doing it too early can put you in danger. I really like your videos. Everything has that smooth vibe. From the channel name, to the music, to your voice, to your mannerisms, to your attitude, to your moves. Smoot flow!

Refreshing to see a demonstration regarding the most used punch on the street, the hook, most of the time demonstrations are based on the straight punch which always baffles me because most confrontation you see, people are swinging, so for me this awesome to watch.

This guy is utterly likeable...I warm to him every time I watch one of his films. You are a great teacher dude...your body animation and clear instruction imprint really well upon the mind. Plus you have a good heart, but it is the heart of a lion...that's a GREAT combination! Salutations from me.

Personally I believe that the second technique of moving in, and using the elbow to the face is the safest method for self-protection. It's gross motor movement and if done with intent and speed will end most confrontations in around 1-2 seconds. Far more effective and safe for you than the first technique.
@eickx5130
@eickx5130 4 года назад
The second technique is Shiho Nage. This technique is gonna break your Elbow or you gonna hit the floor hard, so you don't want to fight anymore.

@Richard Postma unfortunately most arts have these set up situations but its too hard to do them like to remember them in a situation, we always result to easy stuff like back up and then punch the shit out of them or kick them or wrestling sprawl etc. Thats what I have a hard time with is we have them moves in my class but I never seem anyone in mma use them and not that I think ufc is the end all be all but those are trained guys vs trained guys so youd think youd wamt your knowledge to handle more than just dickheads off the street who dont know how to do more than haymaker

Please remember; a street thug can swing at you really fast and hard! Even if you can manage to block the first punch like the video, he can probably hit you really fast with his other hand, before you can turn and twist his arm! The instructor in the video is a pro, and Aikido is great, but regardless of the type of martial arts or any combat sport you like, you will need years of training, conditioning, and sparring experience in order to be that good!

Oh... use your gun?
@adamsmith5374
@adamsmith5374 4 года назад
@@hotrodray6802 Well, it depends on your local and state laws. You maybe able to use a gun for self defense if you have reasonable belief that you're life is in danger. But if you use a gun in an altercation to avoid a fist fight, then you could potentially get into major trouble with law, even if you didn't instigate it. So, I would consult an attorney.

That's not entirely true. The true practice of any martial arts is to be at an constant level of aggression and violence....but keeping it under voluntary control with a zen like mindset. When it's time to go, come with extreme violence and I'll intent.

what a great guy!!! - not only a fantastic instructor but he simply is a good-natured fella, the kind of guy you would like to have a beer and a good laugh with after dojo....If I wasn't over here in cold old Canada and lived in London [ or where ever his studio is in England[ I would definitely love to attend his class - I've been a boxer and martial arts student since my father, who was a competition brown belt and golden gloves boxer from Belfast Ireland in the 50s, [James [Birdie] Cunningham], started myself and my older brother knocking each other about with regimented regularity in our home dojo forty years ago. My father was always extremely strict [old school] and the many boxing coaches and martial arts instructors I have had down through the years seem to almost always have a similar tough guy attitude and try and come of as having a lot of hard bark on them, which is questionable .....I must say, it is refreshing to see someone smiling and not taking himself too seriously, pretending to be the is the meanest and toughest ass on the planet - because as anyone who has been up and down the block, or the range, a few times will tell ya, there is always, always, someone tougher.....so never take anything for granted and always be aware and try to have fun.when training - not raucous horseplay, you have to absorb what y9ou are being taught so you need a level of attention and dedication - but you sure as hell don't need to try and take your sparring partners head off on friday nights - that is so common on sparring nights, especially at the Dojo where I train now, but it is in a very tough working class city and a lot of the young fellas are looking for a rep, want people to know they are real bad actors thus everyone wants to take someone's head off - to tell you the truth, now 54, I am still involved in martial arts, because I love the exercise and the comraderie when you find a few good mates in one of your classes.....peace and be well everyone!............Great work as usual, Mr. Flow - love your show brother, keep up the great work!!!

I have done aikijiujitsu Aikido and JJ. People have ignorantly said that Aikido don't work unless they are charging at you 😂. Do is way Jutsu is combat. TKD even has a combat application and I've seen it before up close and personal and I joined the group. My point is that AIKIDO is whatever you make it. A gentle restraint or something more gruesome. Depends on mindset application and intentions. Oss and respect for you and your competent instruction. 🐯

If you want to be "truly evil", just break his arm on the entry - step across him and when your elbow meets his, lift his elbow with yours as you bring his wrist down. The humerus will break before you change direction. You should also practice shortening the technique into a figure 4 lock. The mechanics of the takedown remain but the way your arms and your opponents weave together is a little different.
