Well done. I'm getting weaker and older each year so in the last couple unprovoked attacks by thugs I let my revolver aimed at center mass speak for me quite eloquently but lessons noted and realize a sidearm isn't available for a lot of the world. Stay safe.

If you've had more than two attacks by "thugs", it's obviously not unprovoked. I've lived in two different extremely crime-ridden areas, and I had to walk the streets everyday not once did I ever get attacked by "thugs". Just the fact that you refer to them as "thugs" is a little bit of a Freudian slip.

Thank you for posting this video. I have practiced three different martial arts, but I still find it very useful to know 2 or 3 effective strikes / moves and become as proficient at them as you can. When something happens in the real world (outside of the dojo) you want as natural of a reaction as possible to stop the attack. What I don't agree with (my opinion, I'm not saying anyone is wrong, you have to do what you feel is right) is the "I don't want to hurt them" approach. You state this towards the beginning of the video, and you also use the phrase "nice and gentle" when describing the throat strike. You even change your wording about half way through the video (about the 3:30 mark) when you state "another thing that will save your life is the kick in the nuts!". The key phrase is "save your life". If you feel your life is in danger, why are you going to be worried about hurting the attacker, gently striking him? It is a different story if it is a family member or someone you know, but if you are attacked out in public by someone you have never met, and they are obviously trying to seriously hurt you, I'm sorry but I am not going for the "kinder, gentler" method.
@mikado728
@mikado728 Год назад
Agreed. This fellow is so much fragile white okey-dokey you don't really have to know much about what you're doing to kill somebody hit him in the throat... and if somebody comes out you to hurt you if you're not attacking the attacker to beat him down till he stops twitching you're probably not gonna survive.

If it isn't just some bully or someone coming to permanently hurt you, kill you or coming at you with full intent or aggression just immobilise them with a choke or hit a a sensitive area quickly, but if not, and they're coming bloodthirsty, you have no chance to win if you don't do that same. If you get a punch in, keep i until they pass out, if you're constantly attacked, you'll get hurt anyways so charge in and knock them out

To be completely truthful, in a real self-defense situation I never did, nor will I ever, take care not to hurt an attacker or attackers. In fact, I will hurt and at least injure any attacker. Years ago I gave a lot of self-defense courses for women. I definitely taught them to hurt any attacker.

@@keithsurdyke2535 I don't look at necessarily as being concerned about the attacker's welfare, but more for your own. Sure, you want to protect yourself, but also don't want to end up in jail, if you can avoid that. You can't count on the courts agreeing that you acted in self-defense. I know the saying "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6", but I'd prefer to avoid either scenario.

Points to remember first. 1/ No one is to big to run away from. 2/ It hurts even more the day after. 3/ Only If you have absolutely no chance of escape should hit him first. 4/ If you do have to take action, it has to be a 100% explosive effort. 5/ Forget body punches or wrestling on the floor, it's nose, throat and eyes and then leave quickly. 6/ Fear can be you friend because you can turn it easily into instant aggression. I must be the mildest guy in town but when a giant of a chap once put me in this situation, I was even more surprised than him when he was the one left screaming on the floor.

Loved the initial convo about using only as much force as necessary- a very important lesson. The frontal strike to the throat- also good stuff. But I'm going to call bullshit on the pinch to the back of the arm. I had someone do this in an amateur MMA fight where i had the dude in like a side/rear choke type situation which i was struggling to get sunk deep. The guy tried this method to make me release- held onto it for 90 seconds with all his might as we grappled. It left hideous marks on my arm that were there for months- but didn't make me even come close to releasing. When you do submission moves you have to learn to take the pain that comes with that type of fighting. This move will NOT work on someone with the heart of a fighter. You need to shut them down, not cause superficial pain to win fights or one day your going to get the surprise of your life when it doesn't phase your opponent

@@krushinghead246 Because people that actually train in a practical martial art (aka wrestling, muay thai, bjj, etc.) know that this is b.s. Plz don't use this if you are looking to defend yourself. I'm not saying that every technique is gonna work 100% of the time in more practical martial arts but it's a lot more effective. There's no such thing as a magic pill that works 100% of the time. If you find something like that, let me know and I'll quit everything and train in that.

A very positive approach to dealing with a potentially big problem: How to protect yourself 'within' the law... One of the most critical aspects of any self-defense technique (including Aikido) is developing self-confidence. Too many nominally 'gentle-natured' people have a problem with this, since self-confidence is the entry-level 'key' for most locks. Aikido helps develop the necessary confidence to put superb techniques such as these demonstrated by Akidoflow. Self-confidence also (importantly) helps a person deal with the all-important problem of ego, since ego (unreasonably) often demands that a response be forceful beyond that which is absolutely necessary to resolve a threat. Just this 1.5 minute video is a valuable start in the right direction! I speak as a constitutionally 'gentle' individual who has always been troubled by needless violence. PS: I am absolutely convinced that ALL children should take some form of the martial arts at the earliest age possible, and Aikido is a wonderful way to start! We live in an increasingly violent age but there is no mandate that says we must be victims, despite a firm belief in cultivating and promoting the essential 'goodness' of humanity. As the Russians put it: "Trust, but VERIFY."

Scream in the attackers face and open up a second or so to consider next move such as run, counter, pre-empt? Thanks for the great tips on proportional force though. Too many other channels show extreme defense which, as you say, can be life changing for many people. The exception to proportional defense theory for me would be a knife attack where the rules of proportion response would go out the window in favour of 'anything goes to survive'

@ps2212
@ps2212 5 лет назад
Kick/ Toe punt in the head or body, be prepared to use an elbow if it jumps at u, never turn ur back on a dog, back away facing it - always. I have used this defence more than once on street dogs across Asia. There are other defences but they require training.
@user-ij5gv6ji5b

@@ps2212 Thanks, such experience is precious because there is not enough information available anywhere. A video showing such techniques with real (not trained) dogs would gather millions of views. On the other hand, if the dog is big -like a Shepard or crazy like a Pitbull, what then? I mean other than carrying a gun, and even then Pitbull usually stops only when it dies. @@harrys.3165 Sure, I wouldn't mind to cut its throat either, so carrying a hidden knife is a must eg like in some special belts, but that means the dog has already bitten you and causing you serious damage by the second. A video showing how to prevent an angry large dog from biting you and make the dog leave, would be precious information. I would generously pay for such a video!
@harrys.3165
@harrys.3165 5 лет назад
@@user-ij5gv6ji5b fair enough. I will elaborate. When a dog charges you, if you are quick, grab your jumper and wrap it around your arm. Put it out for the dog to bite as this will limit your injury. With the other hand poke it in the eyes . Also dogs can be powerful and you may get bitten in any case. Look the dog in the eyes as it runs toward you and yell loudly as sometime a dog can fear a person that shows no fear. You can also punch them hard in the side of the chest. There are many ways that others may also tell you. Grab a stick and use that. You must think fast, show no fear. I have trained dobermans and have been bitten many times through the course of training my dobermans but in the end the dogs love and respect me but I too love them so much. Good luck and I hope you never have to deal with a crazy wild dog but if you do then protect yourself, use a jumper to wrap your arm or a stick or any other object, throw out food if you have it or face it with dominance, power and crazy anger or walk away but walk backward while maintaining eye contact.
