HARD PILL TO SWALLOW: Often the things that bring us happiness in the long-run require that we forgo PLEASURE in the short term. Lifting weights can be painful, but the physique afterwards brings us so much happiness that we got there. Working on or at a business tirelessly can be difficult, but when we succeed and get the promotion or the sales it feels incredible. Be wary of pleasure as it does not always mean we are on the right path in life. Sometimes, pleasure is exactly what we need to avoid if we are looking to get to the next level of success. Keep going my dudes!

I needed to hear this today. Thank you. I’m 38 and about to go back to college to finish my degree, and I’m starting to get nervous about being the oldest person in the class. But I keep telling myself I’m doing this for my baby daughter and my boyfriend and myself, to better our lives once I’m done in a few semesters (hopefully). My confidence is usually moderate but the more preparation I do for starting classes the more I’m thinking and worrying about how others will look at me. And it’s like, why do I fckn care so much. But I’m human, and I DO care what others think, no matter how much I try to say otherwise. I don’t think there’s a single person on this earth, even the most detached person, who truly doesn’t care at all what others think of them. But anyways yeah thanks for your comment. This stranger feels better after reading it. ❤ I hope you have a wonderful day!

What does the word "Purpose" in this context mean to you though? Does it simply mean to find a job or career you like? Because when I watch videos like this all anybody is ever talking about are Jobs. To me jobs are not the pupose of life but society tells you all that matters is work.

"Make your hobby your job and you will never have to work again". I remember my mum saying this to me when I was 5 years old. Since then I've been trying to find my purpose. Doing something that triggers your flow state is super important. It shows you that what you are working on is right for you.

That is a complete lie. Your purpose is really just the thing you’re willing to eat shit for. There’s plenty of days where working on my RU-vid is more difficult than others. And it feels like work. But it’s worth it

@@ColeHastingstrue, just because you love to do something doesn’t make it any easier to do. There are days when you wanna give up, but then I’m reminded why I love working my job. I get to make people happy even if momentary, and that feeling, knowing I made someone’s day a little better, is well worth the work🙂. So whenever I feel the stress and pressures of my work, I’m reminded of that and keep going even when it’s hard. That’s why I like keeping the little thank you notes I get from my clients, it helps to remind me how I helped them and feel that feeling🙂

@@animator02Love is contextual when it comes to work as you have no other choice you have to work. If you could not work and you weren't forced to work because of money, would you? Most people would say no and they would find other hobbies and things they enjoy doing/spend time with people they love. Life could be one big party but instead we're forced to be slaves to corporations. And even if you have your own business all your time will be devoted to that. Is the purpose of life to work? Do you work to live, or do you live to work?

So this explains why I enjoy making RU-vid videos so much. I find my flowstate when recording or editing videos, creating thumbnails, and searching for the newest and craziest video game mods I can find. I can sit at my computer for 12 hours straight putting my brain to work and coming up with new ideas, and every second of it is bliss. Thanks for this! I’ve been doing it for a while now and it feels so good. My routine to get into the flow state is: Before getting into a big coding task in my job I would drink some coffee and listen to some Cello music like Hauser (he’s awesome). After some days doing this my flow state started triggering a lot faster. If someone wants to try I’d recommend putting some music without lyrics, like classical, lo-fi or cello. Hope it helps!

Cole, you may not know me, but I consider you to be my "RU-vid best friend". You and Clark Kegley are some of the handful of channels that whenever I see a video pop up, I know that it's going to provide some insight to gently encourage me to continue doing better, and to be okay with myself whenever I am not. The timing of your videos are always impeccable, and you have truly helped me to change my life for the better. Overwhelmed with monumental tasks? Start off with the smallest possible one from there. Seriously though, I wish you the best of luck in life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Hey Cole, I can’t stop caring about the culture wars and woke. I live in CA near Berkley and we live in a very in your face leftist area. People put up yard signs with their political beliefs, teachers lecture on topics and give us a politically correct answers rather than giving us an opportunity to chat, and I feel like I’m being watched. So I ended up watching all these videos on woke this and woke that. Part of me wants to stop because I know it’s stupid but I think I enjoy being part of a group who feels the same way. I know that trans people just want to live and not be bothered just like all of us but my only image of them is from the bad interactions I had and the internet. I know from reading Marcus Aurelius that this isn’t healthy. My freind is worried about how it’s affecting me. I have a problem. What do I do? How can I know if I’m living right?

From the way you describe this I assume you might be trapped in between political interests. What I mean by this is that you have inputs from conservatives (hence the way you refer to these people as leftists, even though it's not a correlation, and that you feel like being watched-the main bluff of conservatives) but also from democrats (you live in a city where people have on average higher education and thus tend towards policy ideas akin to those put forth by democrats). Unless you find it a mission of your own that of changing people's views, you need to not care because you can't change anything. Your voice, unless you do real effort, will be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, so you just go vote (those who don't vote even if they can deserve no right to complain), and go on about your life with your ideas. You will not be liked by everybody, so not stressing about it by ignoring those that don't help you in getting better (random people saying stuff about you due to your view) don't matter. By my own definition, I too don't matter in your life.

I'm similar to you but I would stress to just keep a certain set of views and stick with them. If you find yourself focusing too much on these very real problems then remind yourself that there isn't much you can do if you're not in politics. This doesn't mean you have to become a leftist but it does mean that you should probably take a chill pill. Keep your conservative views but don't make them a huge part of your life. Just vote, provide input when given an opportunity, and move on. If you find yourself really passionate on this maybe make your voice heard in your community, but that's about it. By simply keeping your views you're already doing something meaningful against political correctness and there's no need to do anything more if it causes you stress. :)

@@smithrockford-dv1nb I just worry about how my kids will deal with the evolving world. I don’t want them to live in an oppressive society where they can’t speak freely. But I guess I should just vote if I care so much
