This is how I stopped birds from building nests, and pooping around our house, porch, outdoor patio furniture, car mirrors, hanging plants, pots, and wreaths. I use blue plastic grocery bags to keep birds from nesting in my ceiling fan light fixture and front door wreaths. This would also work in places like your lean-to and under your deck. The problem with building nests in our plants is: The nest gets bigger and bigger, and it crowds out the plant, and really hinders the plant's growth and health. UPDATE. 6 weeks later: This continues to work! The bird that used to build a nest here keeps coming by. It flutters nearby for a minute and then flies away. No nest!
