In this video, I cover how to stop bouncing on a horse. This is part 1 of a 2 part lesson series. If you are currently struggling with this, I know it can be frustrating and painful too!
In Part 1 I cover some common reasons for bouncing, important areas to work on to avoid bouncing, and 2 tips for you as the rider to work on.
These tips are a few things that have worked for me and the students I teach. Every situation is different and there are other ways to approach this issue, but I hope this provides some guidance in your journey to learn how to stop bouncing in the saddle 😊

Very clear and helpful information thank you. My horse is a trail horse but green in the arena best ground manners ever and he loves when we are doing sitting trot. myself age 54 just started riding 2 years ago. I’m crazy but bitten by the horse bug forever. My question is at sitting trot what should my legs be doing and hips. Just need some visualization words to help me too. Ty

@JSHorsemanship 3 года назад
Hi 😊 I’m so glad you found the video helpful. Sounds like you have a wonderful horse🐴 When sitting the trot you want to have your legs draped around the horse. You want to have flexibility in your ankles to help you absorb the motion. Your hips should follow the motion, this is made possible by you absorbing the shock of the movement with your core. Before sitting to the trot make sure you feel even wait on both seat bones and feel you can let your legs relax down to your stirrups. One thing that helps me is imagining there’s a string that goes from my belly button through the top of my head. My upper body is stretching towards the sky as my legs are relaxing down. I hope this helps 🐴💕

Should my ankles be curled around his belly or heels pressed into stirrups straight down. Can’t wait for your next video thank you for your help I really appreciate it
@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship 3 года назад
Instead of pressing your heels down or curling your ankles around his belly. I would think about letting your legs relax from the hip flexors down. This will naturally bring your leg closer to your horse without you having to keep them there by force:) I always think about letting my toes lift as opposed to thinking about pressing more in my heels doing this allows your joints to stay free and relaxed.

Hii I love you so much 💞 I'm currently learning canter I know how to do it but fear just gets the best of, do you have any tips on how to improve won't that? In yesterday's lesson I tried the techniques from your videos and it went really well so...thank you.

My horse riding coach always says "move your hips" while trotting, but how am i supposed to move them in the sitting trot?
@roxannelundenart2150
@roxannelundenart2150 3 года назад
So that they follow the movement of the horse :) It should come more naturally the more you practice by flowing with the movement of the horse, and when you are relaxed in your hips/ butt yet strong in your core

You make circles with your pelvis. You're moving forward and back and up and down in the saddle so you're pelvis and hips must stay very supple following the movement of the horse.

I love your videos so much and I have a quick question. So I am 15 and have been riding for around a month now and been taking lessons. My trainer goes to horse shows a lot for weeks at a time and I really want to practice and eventually compete. I have done plenty of research but would you recommend buying a trained horse as a beginner, or is it better to buy a horse when you have more experience in riding? Thank you!
@JSHorsemanship
@JSHorsemanship 3 года назад
Hi, I’m so glad to hear you are enjoying the videos 💕 Owning a horse is a big responsibility financially and the time you spend taking care of them, but if you are really passionate in your horsemanship journey and willing to take on this responsibility it’s a wonderful experience. I would wait a year and maybe lease a horse to try it out before buying. Buying a trained horse is recommended for a newer rider, but they are more expensive. You can also buy a younger horse and train them. It is a good idea to take a trainer with you to help evaluate a potential horse you are looking to buy. Overall, you and your horse are a two part team so both of you are working in harmony in competition. If the horse is trained it could help you reach your goals quicker and will be safer, but don’t get discouraged if you are unable to do this. Their are many great horses out there that can be trained and both of you grow together. If you go this route an experienced instructor is recommended to help you on the journey.

Just had my 3rd lesson and I am bouncing around everywhere almost fell off, badly, many times and had to grip on to the horse before I fell. But generally, I am struggling to control my body and its bouncing up and down and side to side.

I used to ride 1 or 2 times a week but I haven’t ridden in a month and a half because it’s been too hot and I’ve been busy with summer. I have a lesson scheduled for today bc I’m trying to get back into riding but I’m worried I may have lost skill since I’ve been gone for so long. Any tips?

The horse I ride tends to want to be faster in both arena's, but when we trail ride she will be nice and slow. How can I keep her slow when I ride her in the arena?
