haha you can tell she watches at least some of this content and did her research on how to approach a dog like hers. Always refreshing to see someone who was going after the wisdom of others first and asking for help when they know the limits of their ability. no arrogance, no ego, just a desire to learn and help her dog. 10/10 owner.
Agree! This owner is excellent and this is the type of owner a troubled dog needs. She’s demanding respect which is what an unruly dog will ultimately gain progress with. If we can redirect diplomacy and consequences with respect then the need for consequences lessen, in my experience with my dominant rescue. Great job
I was thinking right when you called that little dog a champ, boy that little dog trusts that gate and really understands the power of the gate to protect her.
Okay this one made me a little emotional. It's so great to see him make friends. I mean his whole word is changing for the better because of this. Well done everyone!!!
You can’t be scared/nervous, when you are you risk sending that energy to the dog & making a situation worse, even if you are scared/nervous in a situation with a giant, somewhat aggressive/fearful dog, it’s best to stay cool, calm & collected or atleast pretend to be if you arent, you’ll notice that by pretending it helps feed the dog calm energy which starts to change their behavior making your confidence rise & before you know it you’ll actually be calm in that “scary” situation & you won’t be just pretending.
It was wonderful to hear that the play group was open to let him in again once the behaviour was corrected, it is a perfect example of conseqenses without punnishment.
You don't yell too loud. I've seen people yell softly, it's not effective. This owner is great. She knows her dog very well, and she's willing to go the extra mile to give him what he needs.
So impressed with the empathy you showed this dog Joel. And what a result. Simply amazing diagnosis and treatment. Loved the first little helper dog. She knew it was all bluff. She was also awesome.
Fantastic video!! 😁 The lady that owns this dog is perfect....strong, and a loud enough voice to control it. My mom, auntie have always had German shepherds and they are great dogs in the right hands. Joel...... well he’s a fab dog trainer and knows his stuff, what could go wrong. 👍😁
I was thinking the same thing. I own a Belgian malinois, German Shepherd American Pitbull Terrier mix the dog in my picture and two other dogs right now. I've had four at most and she acts exactly as I do with my dogs. You have to be the leader, the Alpha to maintain order especially in a pack dynamic
@@primalcritters I agree, could you imagine never reprimanding our children, likewise with our dogs, rules and boundaries to keep them on the right track!! You have your work cut out there my friend with your pack, fair play to you!! 👍😁
@@baldurivar huh? I think you need to stop owning dogs if you disagree on how to be a leader for your dogs. They need leadership, they want direction and guidance. This is very natural. You like any strong, dominant breed such as a working line German Shepherd, X Malinois, Knpv x herder, or certain Mastiff breeds which I suspect you favor, you will learn very quickly that you will need to be the alpha
Thank you, Joel. Another highly helpful video. Letting him 'bark it out' when he's overstimmed instead of immediately correcting that is very interesting. It really helped that the dogs he was barking it up on were SO unimpressed. Lol. The confidence of that first female he rushed in on & got no reaction from her was awesome. Beautiful GSD! Owner's great They're going to go far 🏆 together!
I'm such an advocate of dog owners becoming educated on their dogs and how to properly train them so that the dogs can have a great life and the owners can too. They are much more responsibility than most dog owners realize and because they don't take that seriously enough, the dog, the owners, guests and other animals have to suffer. That's why I'm so glad I found this channel. I highly recommend that anyone reading this, share his videos with other dog owners that you know or even people considering getting a dog and take the time to choose a quality video that can be specific to the person and whatever dog situation they could benefit from. This channel has tons of videos to pick from.
Your instincts with dogs is incredible to watch. I love that you’re not one-size fits all and how you seek to understand the dog and the situations that got them where they are. I also really like the respect you show to your clients. I have dealt with 2 different dog trainers and both were very condescending to me. And that little dog at the beginning was so helpful too!
I think Connery wanted in the pool area so bad. “Cpme on Joel, let me come in just for a minute. I want to have a little conversation with that big boy. Please?”
You are the reason why my pup who is only 5.5 months old is 100% perfect on his recall, he is growing to be a wonderfully socialized and beautiful animal. These videos are mostly what has made him who he is and he will be a great ambassador for his breed.
How your able to understand that the dog is being emotional and is out of its mind so it shouldn’t get corrected at that moment rather let him get some clarity is amazing!! 👏👏
Props to Caiya (spelling?) who came back and stood her ground while that big German Shepard barked at her. That was impressive to watch! I would love to know her story. Brave girl!
This was super useful from a training standpoint, and also it's like therapy watching such a beautiful group of dogs frolicking around at the end. I could watch that all day! And your camera person somehow catches the action without making me dizzy.
Aww this I think is one of my favorite videos. He just needed a gentle balance of help and then one the emotion is out he could begin to connect again!! Awesome!
That GSD at the beginning acts like my giant dog when he's on the lead and sees another dog. After watching many of Joel's videos he's calmed down a lot, some days we look almost normal. Some days we don't react. Other days we take 2 steps back and the years go by. My big old dog is getting grey and too tired to fight I think. Joel's videos work, it's just that people think they are training the dog, but it's the people that are the ones being trained. Great work as usual 💖
My Shepard mix was attacked by a 120lb mastiff mix and has numerous scars from it, and she became reactive afterwards as well. This video was very helpful for her new issues.
Well done everyone and well done to the playgroup who will welcome this lovely boy back. Teenage male dogs just need to get through this bit with understanding and consistent feedback. How effective are those “HEY!!!! - go get - grab - I’m giving you the hairy eyeball” manoeuvres that Joel does!?
So good. Can relate to this a lot. Have a younger GSD who is 15 months and goes all loud and crazy when he meets other dogs. Your tips and techniques are very helpful! Thank you 👍🏼
For me, this is the BEST video. You always know exactly what the dog needs. And how to communicate it to the owner with compassion ❤😊 . I also love your set up, the pool, the pasture, your staff. However I am afraid 😱 of your “loud” yell 😂😂😂😂
Excellent job interrupting the behavior when they're all off leash to prevent any potential for behavior escalates on both those occasiona. So important for dog handler to be in proximity to make those interruptions. Great work !!
This is a great video and how simple this process can be with the right knowledge... also glad Beckman decided to switch up the filming and talked during the actual filming instead of voice over in the background..
Can’t thank you enough for your videos this one is the most spot on situation my dog is in, she was always afraid of other dogs acted like the lowest in the pact, ran away, and hid never tried to bite, was perfect in my eyes for a German shepherd, then she was attacked and turned really aggressive like this dog, goes exactly crazy like this seeing other dogs, imma definitely try this, I tend to correct when she is expressing her emotions because I’m also traumatized from her getting attacked she actually fought back really bad, I tend to forget she does listen to me when I tell her to stop but I feel like I should let her emotions play out a bit more because she’s always very anxious shaking, slobbering yawning and staring too hard, but she’s made friends with another German shepherd, but because he was really unbothered by her dominant bully behavior he helped her a lot socially
I can out yell you any day any alsation. I'm 88 years female dogs all my life Love how you read the dogs Also could you show more of your introductoin it looks amazing you coming out of the water. Great work.
I am so addicted to your ways of understanding and teaching dogs, and I don't even have a dog! I do occasionally dog-sit for family members that have dogs, though. I will do my best to handle them your way, thank you :)
I am only about 5 mins into this video, and I see that this owners situation is very like my own,, my AB was attacked, and he then become completely dog aggressive. I'm excited to find out how I am going to now be able to correct this behaviour!! 👍😁
I liked the explanation when you corrected the pushy dog that was overstepping the German Shepard’s boundaries. My Cattle Dog will warn and then nuke a dog that acts like that. Some dog owners don’t seem to understand it’s their dog that initiated the problem. I stay out of dog parks and never see the problem any more… AND, you’re just loud enough! People need to be less sensitive.
Small dog owners are the worst especially. It’s almost as if when you have any large powerful dog breed, your dog can’t show any emotion like any other dog, cannot have their breaking point, can’t react and has to have saintly behaviour at all times....even when the small dog starts it, the bigger, scarier, badder looking dog gets blamed
Agreed, this owner isn't putting up with any be from her dog and is in total agreement with Joel and supportive of his training methods. I actually thought this dog was going to be aggressive, but is not.
I have only recently discovered your channel, and this is great I immediatly subscribed, because you don't sell BS :) I live in Belgium and have a bit of the same problem with my german shepherd. He's 2,5 years old and used to be great with other dogs, until he got attacked. Now for the past year, i can't go anywhere with him, if there are other dogs. Problem is, that most people on the street with dogs, don't understand that he has to learn to trust again, and they act in a negative way. Either they take a defensive stand, or start yelling. How can i socialize him, if others won't let us?
My GSD reacts just like this dog & can look extremely aggressive. My dog is a lockdown pup & never got the chance to play with other dogs, which is heartbreaking for me. I'm now scared to let her off the lead around other dogs as I don't know how she'll respond. I love this video & and I think your methods are amazing. I just don't have the same setup as you, but I wish I could spend ten minutes in your company to give me the confidence & give my dog Rogue the confidence too. I have had many GSD & never had any issues before. I'd give anything to see Rogue playing with other dogs & be a contented dog that isn't anxious.
Would love to see follow-up lil clip of Dex in his playgroup and/or Bonus vid just more of the interactions. Joel's amazing reading dogs. Great owner!!! Kia is also a superstar🐾❤️
So true, German Shepherd bark is like no other. I especially prefer the working lines no show lines. Deep, strong, and fast. I always laugh when I hear a purebred Belgian malinois because I can tell a difference by their barks. They almost sound like a Yorkshire terrier barking unless it's of course an x malinois knpv lines dutch/Mal x working line German shepherds and even outcross to apbt or Mastiff and bred back to shepherds
