@@sekurmsekurm7343 you didn't even watch the video and have no clue what are prong collars/e collars. Prong collars are less painful than normal collars if your dog is pulling. E-Collars are the last of the last possibilities for dog to correct it's behaviour before it would be put to sleep. If all your life you had a chihuahua and yorkies, on behalf of dog trainers and professional dog owners, don't state your BS over the internet making people think prong collars are bad. Even in the video 80% of the job done was not through the collar itself but with positive reinforcement BUT prong is much better for you dog than normal collar if it's pulling/being aggressiive since it signals wrong behaviour instead of choking the dog. If the dog ain't pulling prong collar isn't doing any harm to it, it's exactly how it works.

@IcicleFerret
@IcicleFerret Месяц назад
@@sekurmsekurm7343 It's far more unethical to let a dog drag the owner around and be an absolute nuisance to the community. Plus, those "force free" trainers are just trying to get you to buy their stuff. I have never met a positive-only trainer that could solve a problem with 2 tools: A leash and a collar. They need dog owners to buy more stuff: More treats, more pouches, lick sticks, calming sprays, special place mats, expensive harnesses, more training sessions, longer training sessions... the list goes on. They've been sold a lie in order to sell product. Enough. Dogs are not made of china. They will not break if you apply a little pressure. I encourage everyone to look up a video called "Experienced mother dog teachers her puppies a lesson in patience." It's just 2 minutes long. The puppies are under 8 weeks old. They display unacceptable behavior. Mom corrects them with a commensurate amount of violence. She doesn't bait them with treats, she doesn't wait for the puppies to get bored. She issues a stern correction, and the lesson is learned instantly.

When I initially started watching these videos, I felt bad for the dog. Overtime, I could understand the reason for this training and I felt it was necessary. When you really love your fur child, you should teach it good manners, potty training etc as it is your responsibility as a parent/ owner. Giving treats or pampering is not enough, it should be taught how to LIVE. Not training a puppy is the problem for many of the issues. Thank you for your channel because I don't own a dog but I'm able to understand the mentality of dogs and how we can make a better place for them. ❤

I did my best to keep his leash pulled into me tight but after 5 mins of walking and keeping the leash tight my arm and shoulder were already getting stiff. But just a few mins after I took him out with the prong collar for the 1st time it was night and day difference. I followed his tips and now my dog is already starting to follow me and I can let go of my previous grip I had on the leash and he stays on me. Actually helped me so much. Thank you ❤

There are a lot of other training courses there from puppy courses, obedience, leash and off leash (called Unleashed) for e-collar training if you want your dog to be trained to be fully off leash. I used these tips and he was walking much better within 5-10 minutes. Today, I was able to take him for a walk while also pushing my toddler on his scooter. He walked nice and respectfully for me (not perfect, but a massive improvement already). I’m now excited thinking about going on future walks with him. Thank you for these videos! He posted a video just like this a few years back and have tried it with my 4 year old American Bully at the time that was 105 lbs (RIP now). It legitimately took around 10 mins for him to walk by my side, loose leash, and no pulling. Fast fwd to now with our new 1 yr old American Bully, 50 lbs, and same thing. Loose leash, no stress. THANK YOU! I've trained dogs for over 30 years. I started out with this method and always had great success but over the years I've caved in to a softer approach because of all of the social pressure. I am retired, but currently training my own pulling puppy and taking so long to get desired results. I really needed this reminder to get back to basics. A softer approach while your dog damages their trachea on a flat collar may keep the Karen next door from bashing you throughout the neighborhood, but it is not doing the dog any favors.
@troy5292
@troy5292 2 месяца назад
Yeah, which is actually more kind? To get the training done in a few sessions and move on, or spend weeks or months trying to do this when you could have been done and enjoying walks with your dog? If something this simple takes weeks or month to train, the other methods are obviously just unclear commands to the dog. America has unfortunately flipped and now everybody thinks they have the right to chime in on how you live your life, and they are always right, and you must comply with what they say or you're a mean and cruel person. I'd just act deaf, ignore them, and keep walking along as if they don't exist. They nor their opinions are worth my time or mental effort. It takes two to argue, so silence leaves them nothing to debate, and they just look like an idiot yelling for nothing. If they want to call the cops, I'd encourage it. I'd ask them to make sure they ask for the Police K9 officer on duty to be the officer to respond but tell the Karen not to be surprised when they show up with their dog wearing a prong collar, e-collar, and flat collar and/or a choke chain. I've walked Echo on a prong collar for the past 18 months through streets, Lowe's, Home Depot, the vet's office, all over the place, and nobody has ever said a word to me. If they ever want to, I'd happily offer to have an educated and civil discussion on prong collars or e-collars. I'm sure anybody that wants to gripe about it has zero true knowledge on how to use these tools correctly anyway. Knowledge is power, and they won't have the power/knowledge to back up their trash talk.

I bought her a slip lead and using this technique she walks next to me amazingly. She does still get distracted by dogs.. and we are working on off lead recall still.. But with my blue heeler(3yrs) using these methods, he is perfectly off lead trained and I can walk down city streets with him freely. It's truly the best! Thanks so much from Cincinnati!

That's awesome! I love GSDs. They shed like it's a mutant superpower, but it's worth it to me. My last dog was a GSD mix and we had to put her down when she was 15, and that was from an aggressively growing tumor. We have two dogs, an outdoor cat (they get along like their own little pack), and a bearded dragon. We love them dearly, but they are just well loved pets. Our GSD was a functioning family member, far past a simple pet. Did you know Garret has very in-depth courses at DIYK9.com? Garret's the training in this video. Many people spend 50-100 hours trying to figure out how to train their dog to walk with manners on a leash where you could buy Garret's course for a very small fee. Less than what my wife and I spent on our last trip to Taco Bell. Considering how long dogs live, it's a no-brainer investment.

Imperative for our big breeds to be trained and well behaved, much more so than other breeds. I've rehabbed rotties, corsos and boerbels that ended up on death row just because they had the wrong owners. These breeds were bred to be tough dogs to do their jobs and they can kill without proper training and supervision. As much as I love them, there's a reason why homeowners insurance doesn't cover them and they're banned in some places...it started with idiot owners 🤬

Thank you for adding the sentence about countries that don’t have prong collars. German law doesn’t allow the use of it and as a first time-dog owner using your videos for training it gives me confidence to know that the methods still work without prong correction but might just take longer!

We rescued a Blue Heeler mix, who had been physically beaten. Had food withheld etc. As a grown women, he would pull me so hard, that I physically couldn't hold her back! This video changed his life and mine!! Thank you ❤️

I have used this with every dog I trained, including all of my working dogs. When you do the U Turn, try to remember to keep the leash low (at their head level) so it doesn't take them off their front paws. It's actually a more effective correction if you do. I'm from MA/NH.

We called it the "j loop" or "j leash". Keeping your own arms at your sides, letting the leash loose.

I love the videos that are clear cut and straight to the point. Question…looking at the tools and equipment you use, which prong collar do you recommend for a 91 lb Rottweiler? I’ve been using a flat collar and now feel so bad that I’ve been hurting her trachea when doing directional changes.

Isn't the prong leash adjustable. By prong. It should fit snuggly

I watched this video 3 times and then went and tried this with my 6 month old German Shepherd and HOLY COW! The ONLY things we worked on during our walk were the sudden u-turn and the sudden stop pop and I can't believe the difference. We are currently enrolled in an intermediate puppy training class and she does great in class but using only the techniques they taught just wasn't working at home. I have been dreading our walks as getting dragged around gets old FAST. This made a huge difference. After about 5 u-turns she had it down to walk at my side...by no means a perfect heel but way better. Towards the end of the walk (just under a mile) she started to forget and it took just 2 uturns to remind her. Her sudden stop isn't perfect but it's way better than it was and this was only the first session so I know in a few more she'll be amazing. I don't have a prong collar, just a martingale and it worked great on that. I'll move to a prong if I need to but this girl is so eager to please I'm not sure I will need it. Thank you for making some simple and straightforward.

This helped both of my dogs who were already "pretty good" at heeling beside me and mostly not pulling ... literally it took less than 9 minutes to get each of them (separately) to heel BEHIND me. Plus, using the clicker is super satisfying. Thanks so much!

I have a 5 year old border Collie and a 4 1/2 year old Australian shepherd. They both would pull, with the prong collar my border wouldn't, my Aussie gave 0 f's and pulled anyway. After not even leaving my house or walking back inside depending on how they were behaving they have learned to not only pay attention to me but their leash reactivity has stopped, if i drop the leash immediately they stop next to me and wait for me to pick it up or wait for me to start walking. It just takes time, effort, consistency and patience. Keep training guys 👍

I have a 11 month old pitbull very strong and gets super excited when he knows we are going for a walk and starts trying to pull right off the bat, he is 105 pounds and naturally muscular. I will definitely invest in a prong collar asap. Great video and please keep em coming. I’m in Compton California….. Thanks

I don’t think you have a pit bull. Not a purebred at least. They go anywhere from 30 to 60 pounds, maybe 70 at most. They shouldn’t be 100 pounds. It’s either a pit mix, not a pit bull at all, or is severely overweight.

I will try this method soon but definitely without a prong collar because my husky was freaked out by any collar or any type of hook around his neck. It takes 2 weeks and several bites to get used to walking on the leash outside of our garden. Now we can walk any time and I can put him on leash any time without bite. And also he is waiting the walks. I adopted him on 2023 december 18, he was 1 year old. He was never on leash before I adopted him. And I don't want to screw up what I already achieved.

You're not alone! You're doing great. We adopted our husky around the 1 year mark. He was free range outside and it has been tough. We have him used to the harness but still pulls a lot. I'm scared of the collar as he can pull his head out even if it's super tight
@norbertmihaji7080
@norbertmihaji7080 4 месяца назад
@@KelseyHubley Thank you have a good luck. This happened with mine at first time outside he was freaked out by something and he got to go to the opposite direction and yes his head slipped out from the collar. It was set to the tightest. It was hard to catch. He is quick. We practice with retriever leash since a week. Unfortunately we could not practice the leash walk in the garden until now because he started to flee and he submissed himself and he didn't move if I put him on leash. After he stopped the fleeing I brought him out to the street by my hand and he started to walk slowly but he was scared. And the same happened when we arrived back home he didn't dare to go in the garden I had to bring him in and he started to flee again after we got in the garden. This is why I'm afraid of the prong collar. I don't want that he feel the collar and the leash and walk can hurt and it can be bad.

Thank you for providing this video. I am a volunteer with a German Shepherd rescue and am asked to walk and report on new dogs. There was a dog that I walked yesterday that could use a prong collar. I start out walking using a flat collar in order to observe whether a dog pulls or is lacking in leash manners.
