These onan's are an enigma! I'm here because literally 10mins ago my gen stopped during normal weekly excercise .. i walk out from the house and there is a puddle of oil down the driveway. oil cap blew off.. and it was snug.. i don't know wtf is going on with these things..
Might have the same issue. Not sure yet. Pumping oil out the exhaust. I was thinking piston rings but who knows. I’m need to do a compression test first. Sounds like there is a leak by the head. More to follow.
I’m thinking you might have saved me. Same thing ordered breather reed valve, gasket & breather as I have oil soaked air filter. Oil in the same area’s. I will check it out. I’m thinking valve as I have tons n tons of hours on geni.🤷♂️
I think I have the same issue with my Onan 5500. That plug is definitely leaking! Can I asked what you used as a good high temp sealant when you put it back in? I used just regular teflon tape and it has started leaking again. I know there has to be something better out there! Thanks for your help and I am now a subscriber! Teflon tape isn't meant for high temps AT ALL .. Any RTV Silicone sealant for auto use, Black, Gray, Red... Even the lowest of temp one will be plenty good
