Hot take: You shouldn't have to throw a special pass to get it to an open receiver 🤯 Edit: If All-Pro Football 2K8 has better passing mechanics than any modern Madden game then we as consumers have a right to complain.
@@MauriceRay-lx5fvno the physics of the game should allow for you to throw a pass over the defenders head like real football or at the very least like 2k5…in madden you can’t “drop a ball in the bucket” on ANY kind of pass and that shouldn’t take a special button if your QB is elite 🤷🏾♂️
That first streak pass, idk how many times I've thrown that exact pass and the defender 9/10 times will still play the ball and 1/10 times my defender will play the ball lmfao
@diorcxmp4030 as the other guy said, it doesn't matter lol. I always lead pass and sometime highpoint, but then they just get hit and drop it regardless. This games Defense is broken as hell lol. When 99% of the gameplay is pre-determined animations not much you can do
I may sound old but I remember in madden games when all you needed to do was press the button of the open receiver and the pass was completed. Crazy simple mind blowing concept. Maybe madden should try it .
Before this mechanic existed in Madden all of these balls would've just been picks. The game never automatically led a reciever away from the defense like you do with free form now.
Same man. I'm sitting there questioning myself like "was that a bad throw? Am I fucking slow?" as I replay it in my head. Apparently, I just need to try more buttons
@ES7m.D ain't that the truth. Sat there trying to play smart at first in this Genki house rules event taking 10-30 yards a turn and marching down the field but that don't matter. All it takes is one play in this especially bad defensive madden for my defenders to go from all pro to mf whose legs don't work and that's an L
this lmao, absolute dogsht game design with no sense of realism and i jus came back after not playing since 19. amazing how its the same shit game every year😭
This same thing happening to me is why i damn near wont even play it anymore. Cant throw to a wide open receiver bc the defender jumps out of nowhere and picks the shit off.
Bro you don’t know how much this helped me. I joined a league and haven’t played in years, I was throwing multiple interceptions a game and was getting blown out. Last game lost by field goal, on interception. Thank you!!!
@@Gloo-packk nah. It doesn't matter ehat type of throw it is. I know the freeform works, but it's not my thing. I've been doing it this way since QB vision
I've tried holding L2 and never see that yellow arrow for free from throws. Can you not lead them without it? Also I'm on PS4 if that makes a difference
One of my biggest issues with this game is that 70% of the time the ball leaves my qbs hand, my receivers immediately start playing defense against the dbs😭 So glad I came across this because I’ve been trying to learn how to do this for AGES but nobody caters to people who don’t know what they’re doing when creating these tutorials. Thank you i
These tips for sure helped me tho. Got this game like 3 months ago and my record is 120 wins and 47 losses. Tips definitely helped me & knowing how to save / replace plays in the formations. This madden is good once u have must know tips and plays 💯
Damn I finally found what I been looking for …played the top 15 player and he pick me off 5 times bc I’m terrible at free form I really hate the passing mechanics but I have to learn thanks my guy
Madden has had problems with ball trajectory for so many years. The depth of the pass is always too way to low allowing defenders to jump these absurd passing lanes. It’s gotten a little better as of late but I don’t understand why you have to extra lead with passes that are suppose to have perfect accuracy. Honestly with pass lead and high/low throws I’m not entirely sure if free form passing is even needed outside of some pinpoint throws. Linebackers and Safeties should have to gain a certain yardage of depth in their zones to pick of passing lanes unless their jumping rating and awareness is high.
That first pass getting picked off by pro defenders unless three things happen u get lucky u have set feet lead and can throw it 5 yards in front or u high pass it but sometimes that high pass won’t help
It’s actually horrible how scripted the passing is when you don’t use L2, it makes you use it, and sometimes you can simply think someone is just too open to need to use L2 or you just simply forget and boom a game changing pick, and we all know how hard it is to play defense on this game, so to just give away free turnovers because of a game mechanic hurts!
Quick question. Does free forming a ball help with throwing the ball deeper? I feel like free forming the ball forward helps. I always used free form as a way to keep the ball under the safety, outside/inside in man coverage. But only recently did i start using free form to throw the ball further. I never once thought this was a thing.
What i think would be great is a football game that takes you through highschool to nfl. In highschool it should be like this. You cant hit those right unless you free form. By the time you get through high school and in college you can 50/50 make those so still might need free form for those. In nfl free form becomes only necessary under duress or if the defender is right on him in step. This would be awesome and show the progression that occures again this should be better or worse based on your accuracy in games from high school to nfl. So if your accuracy hasnt improved much then you will have to free form more in nfl than someone who did well and improved. This would give a unique experience on qbs and making the league.
24 is different from 23. These examples of passes would be complete on 23 without free-form. I think 24 is “less forgiving” of bad passes. I’ve seen times my qb (and opps’) will throw the ball directly to the defense that is nowhere near him, the receiver, or the target area.
Free-Form should only be needed for those tough throws like the back shoulder throws, fades, etc. Shouldn’t need to use it when my receiver has his man beat on a slant.
Free form and high ball do very different things and are useful in different situations. In the clips shown in this video, using a high ball will result in an incompletion
To enable the free form, not to enable the pass lead. You can still pass lead just by holding the left stick in the direction you want to lead it. The free form gives you more range.
“It creates a skill gap” the skill gap should be me finding the open receiver before getting sacked. Kinda like real life. Or at the very least make the “touch pass” or quickly tapping the icon have the QB drop the ball in the bucket. You see that way more often in the NFL than the ball being thrown the way they do on Madden
No it wouldn’t we could play and I’ll show you or I’ll post a clip tagging you the same I don’t even use Freeform it doesn’t get intercepted it’s a preference
Great tip but this is one of my biggest grips on Madden. A 72 ovr DB on their team can somehow always undercut a route and jump it for a clean pick, BUT meanwhile the DBs on my team? If they react to a ball it's to swat it down directly in the ground. Meanwhile the CPU is Asante Samuel and every mis throw is a diving spinning INT? stupid.
Just move forward into the pass, fixes it. Classic works still. I play with classic & I win games frequently. Just move the QB toward the receiver & tap the button so it touches passes instead of bullets.
Your Wr can be 9 yards in front of that corner and it’s still get picked off if you don’t throw a dumb specific pass. Madden will continue to be garbage.
Nah if I free form a streak it's getting picked unless it's a high pass which then gets knocked out anyways 😂. Open receivers don't exist unless there is no one within 15 yards
Yup exactly. Some kid in his parents basement that has a brother played on jv is now a madden god because his only skill in life is staring at a screen clicking 100 buttons in a minute. The controls and all the icons cluttering the screen make me just want to turn the ps5 off
